    honestly the roblox studio one is the best imo if it ain't broke then don't fix it

      @@saviornogame You can drag the tab outside the window to have some sort of "external" editor.

      How can I manage the code version, if after a while the code files increase, each time I edit, if an error occurs, I don't know what I just edited because there are too many overlapping function calls. How do you manage it? There are times when every line of code typed out must be 100% correct.

    Of course something like vim or emacs won't be good for making an actual game/program! Its main use is for terminal editing, but what you can do is integrate Vim into VSCode, that way it feels more fast and productive to code there :)

    You don’t need j k l and h to move around in vim, only for vi which automatically is vim on new systems

    Is coding on Roblox your full time job?

      I do freelance programming commission work these days. In the past, I've worked directly with Roblox to script events & then on with some studios as well.

    What even is the point of not just using Roblox Studio's code editor by it self?

      The biggest advantage will always be access to GitHub extensions or Git CLI cmds

      @@summerequinox As a scripter for over 2 years, I don't see the reason to use GitHub for stuff inside Roblox, but everyone with there needs and uses. Forget to say, good video, but fix ur light behind you lol :)

      It’s definitely not a requirement overall, and working on solo projects you can get away with it.
      The reason Git is so important in every form of programming is because team-based work in large applications like full-scale Roblox games can be complicated. If you head over to a gameplay programmer application for most large Roblox studios (Gamefam, Supersocial, etc…) you’ll see they generally want you to know Git and not just Luau. It’s the same for most SWE positions outside of gamedev.
      As a developer just making stuff on your own or building Luau skills it’s definitely not necessary, but there’s all kinds of components that create value in external editors.

      @@summerequinox I'm working on a teams, 1 team each dev (We are 3 scripts) work on there own baseplate on different tasks, and anther own that I own (Founder), I'm the only scripter, so I've never tried or saw a reason to use Git, but everyone uses what they need when they need.

      Currently, Dracula or Default Dark for colors. Then the default font!

    Hey vim is customisable using Lua using neovim just as tip. Vim in one of the best editors because of the vim keybinds. But sucks at customisation so use neovim with plugins to get full customisation experience.

      Also I would recommend vim if a. neovim if a your an experienced developer that wants to spend time configuring your ide and b. vim powerful features. If none of those fit in your scope use something like vscode.

      I’ve actually installed neovim before but ran out of time to fidget with it. Seems very interesting and I know the people who use it like it a lot!

      Like the other guy said, you'd usually use a Version Control System (VCS). The most popular one is called git.

      You mean what the upsides to using an external editor are? Better tooling (e.g. Selene, StyLua, Wally), OS file system integration and more extensions.
