It's the best way to understand and learn from my dumb mistake and also not to get afraid of the bike by fully understanding it . Still it's so much pain to work with the insurance :P
Thanks for sharing. I‘ve done quite a few track days but this Friday will my first time with my new 2020 S1KRR M. Can’t wait! I hope your repairs go smoothly
@@MonoMoto Actually I’m in Sydney, Australia! Friday will be out first track day in quite a while as everything has been shut for Covid. Weather forecast is looking good and the 3.8km track has a nice 900m straight so it should suit the S1000RR nicely.
Thank you ! Will make a few other videos first to help the channel grow a bit more but will come back to the howto not to crash video at some stage. Next up is : how to go fast at laguna
Unfortunate crash. I'm sure that hill has claimed several victims in the same fashion. Thank you for sharing your experience here. I'll have to keep this in mind when I make it out to THill East. Looking forward to the repair video(s)!
For sure ! was already off the brakes (ABS display always lags a second behind or so) but my old tire and too much lean with strong winds were too much *:)
Glad you’re ok! I was on track with you that day. Here’s what I see without too much jibber jabber. You’re riding the rider and not the track. You’re leaning farther than necessary because your not using the whole track. You’re on a lower line than your friend almost the entire time. This means more lean angle. You’re breaking while leaned over too far and unloading the front all at the same time. Bing bang boom. Lower line = more lean More lean = less suspension Hilltop = Lower load = less traction
Got my Bike back and had a look at the front. Looking at it in more detail it seems most of the crash is probably due to a too old front tire. there was nothing left on it - now the crash might have rubbed off some rubber but it is really blank. Bad riding surely contributed to it, but probably 50% > of this was the tire.
I had the Gilles sliders on. The bike only slid on the left side and the slider did a great job without any bending on the frame. Right side constructions is slightly different. Not crash tested yet ;)
Yes , steering wise it was all stock. I think the bike flipped from the side-stand as this one was badly bend after the crash and can't imagine how else it would be so bend as it's one solid part that usually holds the bike up.
@@MonoMoto from the aftermarket use steering lock protektors, they limit the max steering angle a lot and prevent the front rubber gripping the road again in a slide
I may have been on the west side of the track that night. A while b ack at thunderhill west I did a track day and got hardly any sleep because of the wind. Ended up leaving my tent at like 2 AM to sleep in my car. Very uncomfortable but at least I got some Zs.
Sleep is so important, more than many people think. Bummer about the bike but I’d take that vs a high side any day and it’s still way cheaper than medical bills and being injured. The instructor looks pretty smooth. Curious though, why the need to pass? If you want to turn a fast lap, just back off 5 seconds 👍
Sorry to see you crash, glad you're alright. Watched the other full video, knowing that you will crash (from the title), I expected it to happen in T2 left hander, when you went wide out side, extra lean angle, bumpier track and on/off throttle action. The R1 rider spends less going into the corners, keeping it tight and squaring off the bike quicker and exiting fast. In a tight track like this, it makes it tough to pass those riders "clean". I know the fronts last more than backs, but as an insurance I would do maximum 2 maybe 3 days on SC1 front. It seemed like you came just a little bit wide on the hill and had to still keep it leaned over to point the bike in the right direction. If the line was correct, you could've squared the bike off at the top of the hill. Reminds me of something one of my favorite instructors told me before; "How do you take a slow corner?... Slow!" Hopefully you'll get a quick an easy fix and we'll keep watching your videos.
@@MonoMoto you were +5pmh and +5 degrees of lean over the previous lap. It looked like you were getting impatient to pass the R1. Currently watching this video so you may have addressed that but based on Matt's comment I wonder.
More liters of beer will solve the ego, I promise.
Glad you're ok, watched this several times - I really enjoy how analytical you are about this.

Good timing ! Private trackday and weather is warming up again ! Repairs are slow due to my insurance not getting into gear :)

Thank you! Me too, still stuck in insurance world, but should be able to start soon.
Glad you ok, through context
Yes not a scratch. Glad I got this easy away with it. Gives me a good chance to learn from it and not repeat that kind of mistake :)
glad you are fine man.. good luck with repairs !!
Much appreciated.
thx for sharing, glad ur ok! looking forward to more videos about how not to crash 😀

Yes it’s now a chance to build something fun and new 😀
many riders
Hey man, may I feature it in my compilation? Full credits given and I will notify you as soon as I do use it. Thank you!
Not this time. thx for stopping by.
I always try to get my braking completely done before the top. GoPro doesn’t do that corner justice.

Yup pretty good summary

Interesting crash analysis.
Thank you. I hope it helped :)
I have same bike. What frame sliders? I’m a bit concerned about the right side Gilles slider and it’s strength/surface area on frame.

@@MonoMoto Thanks for reply. Do you have special track insurance for bike?
No, but a few insurances cover track accidents - it's worth it to check with your broker on coverage for track.

Yup it was dumb. I was slightly faster but not enough to make a good pass so I was too obsessed on making a pass. Not the smartest moment.

Totally agreed. With a better line or a bit slower approach it would have been all good. But I lost concentration and did something silly 😅
