But because he was so manipulative, so good at reading people, he literally was able to get an entire cult of the most passive people. Quite remarkable when you think about his tactics
I think a lot of them were passive because they were encouraged to act in a certain way because they were promised something. The mind is not as solid as people think. With good reasons people will go anywhere, that's what people who haven't been in a cult have a hard time understanding. The cult has an excuse for every weird thing, and people will choose to believe the excuse as long as the promise is big enough. Also it's usually a slow process. They gradually draw you in something very different from what you know, and you start questioning if whether or not your usual way of thinking can apply in such a case.
Thats why it took him many years to conform his flock, he contacted many, many people through his "seminars" until he assembled his final group with the 38 most vulnerable, troubled and emotionally weak individuals out of thousands.

You start getting too deep in your way of thinking and it gets hard to admit you were wrong before or change your way of thinking. I think self-awareness is key here though.
To those who say, they don’t understand how things like this can happen- it’s simple: the consciousness will seek whatever one spends their energy towards. When one is subconsciously seeking an out of their current reality, or even “life” as many know it, they will meet others/energy/circumstances on the same path. They will join the collective energy, increasing the energy and all intentions, and boom. All sorts of things happen, because all things were possible anyway. Everyone may have their story, childhoods, trauma, whatever- but all in this cult, came to this conclusion. This happens to this day, with all religious groups, political groups, personal relationships, etc. All one has to do, is observe children in a classroom or playground.
i truly also find it so crazy the age range of this group it's not just young adults similar to the manson family it's a range of young adults to elders....just wow...

technically we cannot blame on just one person. the herd mentality is very common in this world. unless you have a tendency to be a rebel, it is common for humans to feel belonged and this is what caused these people to hang on to the group. they have a strong need to be recognized but they were not getting any outside the group
You can decide not to belong without being a rebel. It's called "thinking for yourself". It's not bound by a desire to be a different per se, it's simply being able to think through each decision and choosing wisely, whether that means making a similar decision to millions of other people or you being the only one in the whole world making a different decision.

@@lottie5346 you’re sick 😂
Corrupt company related with a religion. Makes sense.
Facts. War is created the same way!

He looked like the tech guru in "don't look up"

Did he also killed himself ?

Remember when millions people thought a flimsy mask was going to save them from a mild disease? Most humans are gullible.
Can I explain what happened?

i truly also find it so crazy the age range of this group it's not just young adults similar to the manson family it's a range of young adults to elders....just wow...
I still remember the look of one cult members mom that she gave me after I denied a „talk“ with her daughter about their „religion“. She was like scanning me from the very bottom to the top with a smirk. It creeped the hell out of me.
I remember when this happened they claimed the comet hailbot was a spaceship coming for their souls. I recall that there was one person who didn't go thru with the suicide pact, but he changed his mind a couple of days later and "joined" the others by taking his life.
isn’t that what The Knowing was?
The desire to be a part of something is paramount to human existence
I was a kid when this was all over the news, and even as a child I recognized the absurdity of the cult and what they believed in. Quite a few of them were clearly repressed homosexuals and had mental/emotional issues that were taken advantage of. So sad.
technically we cannot blame on just one person. the herd mentality is very common in this world. unless you have a tendency to be a rebel, it is common for humans to feel belonged and this is what caused these people to hang on to the group. they have a strong need to be recognized but they were not getting any outside the group
No one does anything until it’s too late. It makes me so mad
You can decide not to belong without being a rebel. It's called "thinking for yourself". It's not bound by a desire to be a different per se, it's simply being able to think through each decision and choosing wisely, whether that means making a similar decision to millions of other people or you being the only one in the whole world making a different decision.
@@mysteryman3054 id like to mention the 38 murders again. keep that in mind. "society" deez nuts. lets not compare the incomparable.
@@mysteryman3054 I agree but it's easier said than done with these kinds of people. Look at their body language and facial expressions. They lack any of the attributes that you've mentioned.

The fact a human like that can be so powerful and make people take their lives is overwhelming. How on earth are some people so easy to manipulate
they have vulnerabilities and people like applewhite prey on them. they might come from terrible families. they may have been abused as children. they may feel misunderstood. the list is long but the fact of the matter is that something caused them to be vulnerable and it's just sad.
They might've felt rejected by society, invalidated, abused, misunderstood and more.
Most of them found the cult while trying to find themselves and figure things out on a spiritual level. Do was unfortunatly their to guide them to a plastic bag

A lot of these people who basically say they feel found most still look terrified and very very lost.
Hard to believe people could be so brainwashed. On the other hand, it seems pretty commonplace now and throughout history.
Jus watch MSM(dont matter which side) they brainwash and gaslight all the time
Uh, not like that. Keep it in perspective.

Who was the member from Missouri? I couldn't find anything. If it specified then I missed it.
For these people to follow a man with eyes like their leader blows my mind. His eye are screaming I am insane.
This is so sick, and sad at the same time omg 😳. People the minute you hear the word CULT no matter how bad things are in your life , just ran !. Those so call leaders are always a coward behind a mask, while you’re looking for strength, you are their strength.
There’s good & there’s bad in this world. Many times they share facets. They all wear clothes, yet wearing clothes is not bad. Star Trek has been very beneficial our people’s imagination & dreams beyond cable news women.
I’m sorry for these people’s loss. This person was wicked & wrong. Don’t give up on your dreams & don’t let anyone steal them from you, or else you’ve handed them victory again. Stay young in your heart & mind, but not to young. I’ve noticed that with the elderly.
May those 38 Soul's Lost that Day Find Enteral Peace & Harmony.
how ironic
This is why cult leaders are dangerous and should be held accountable those people were clearly not in control of their actions
Yes the world is corrupt- still is. But there’s plenty of beauty too. How sad.

@@randymann2082 That perspective on consciousness presupposes a consciousness prior to consciousness that desires to become conscious of itself.

An infamous quote by a mad man in Jonestown went like this, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
How broken you have to be to blindly follow someone like that. Tragic. All the way around.
I did a wildcard internet search on the terms "weird website" a few weeks before the bodies were discovered. Heaven's Gate website was in the top 10. What was the internet like back then? It's funny but since it was only used by a few people compared even to a couple years later, it's almost like the internet was a cult of its own in a way.

Shocking how mind manipulation makes them believe ending their lives is the meaning of life
Crazy part is someone is still running the heavensgate website to this day.
OMG this is so sad and heartbreaking to watch.
Sad that some people have such deep insecurity and desperate to find meaning that they fall victim to things like cults, abusive relationships, substance abuse or become a monster themselves. We as a species need to do better helping vulnerable people in need before it escalates them to this point
exactly. it's horrifying that most people have no idea just how completely some people are totally misunderstood and shut out since they enter this world. mainstream society IS mind control, and those who can't fit in feel it the most. People (including doctors) are also very bad at understanding things like neurological differences - or brain injuries in others, these will obviously make someone easier to manipulate and affects people in ways most can't comprehend. People's reactions to this video and general stupidity, ignorance and cruelty to people that don't have a path to follow is heartbreaking.
High and mighty people in the comments: If you consider yourself intelligent you need to stop reacting like this, and try and develop more empathy to the best of your ability, and open yourself up to different kinds of people. Be better people, someone others will genuinely admire.
