To me this song represents a man going through depression (color blue, sadness). He mentions that hes drinking on a playground tequila for one to cope which could mean that when he takes his kids (if he has any) then he can only get through the day with a drink every now and then, even with his kids who typically are peoples happiness and love. The lyric that is most important is "you say you're here but you live on the sun" meaning that someone says they have been there also (depression most likely) but he says you live on the sun meaning that person doesn't know what he (Robert) is going through. Brilliant song, very sad.
and the person on the sun could just be someone who (now) lives very far away but still says (s)hes there for him.. coming to the conclusion that its a song about depression is like adding 1+1
Drinking on a playground moreso refers to the idea that he needs to find new ways of satisfaction when he is older as opposed to emthe way you could easily find it when you were a kid

Growing up with undiagnosed autism I resonate with these lyrics on a whole other level 😭😭
Most of my childhood was trying to fit in while simultaneously claiming to be different and unique, trying to achieve this perceived balance between things I couldn't comprehend.
Circa age 10-12 I made my mom buy me a basketball because everyone seemed to have one, despite that I wasn't remotely interested in basketball, nor was I athletic in the slightest, it just... felt necessary. I went through several bikes, bought and sold, torn between learning what I was taught was a necessary skill, or giving it up and coming to terms with the fact that I don't have the coordination. I hated my room (up until last year when I finally refurbished it), the same room I had since I was very little. It was a dead end the way I had things arranged, everything was old and kiddy but I couldn't bring myself to change it because I felt it had some sort of sentimental significance. It didn't, or at the very least it wasn't MY sentiment. I didn't know what true sentimental value felt like until mid teens.
I was a blank slate, highly impressionable for a little too long. My main influences being pop culture and other kids (whom I never did and never will understand). I didn't know who or what I was, why I never fit in, why I felt completely alone in my seemingly obsure interests. The funniest part, _everything I own is blue._
Because it has been cemented that _my favorite color is blue._
Anyway thanks to the internet, I'm not alone anymore haha 💙🫠
I can relate. If I was born later I might have been diagnosed with autism. I matured veeeery late in life and I didn't really "grow up" until I had a mental health crisis that shattered my reality. I'm talking fully blown manic psychosis, three times. If I didn't get help and medicated right away I might have developed schizophrenia (which is complicated because its not something you "develop" per se but its something that can reveal itself later in life) And I don't have a favorite color, or rather my favorite color is the absence of color (black)
