    Thanks as always for doing my pick, I’m so happy that you were so moved by it! The Allman Brothers were one of the greatest American bands, and in my humble opinion, they were THE greatest! And another band where these guys were barely 20 years old at the time! But they grew up in the south they didn’t have much money and they spent their days living and loving music, that’s where it comes from… there is still so much Zeppelin for you to hear and I never thought I would send you something else, but I knew you had to hear this! And I love seeing your reactions. It makes it all worth it! I’ll get back to the Zeppelin next but by the way, if you’re going to do another Allman Brothers soon to me it needs to be One Way Out from the album Eat a Peach.. It’s a Live recording that features Duane Allman playing slide guitar but also Dickey Betts playing some great lead guitar as well. A true classic… Have a great day!❤❤❤

      So glad you mentioned Dickey here. I just requested Blue Sky. In my humble opinion., one of the most underrated guitar players ever! I've seen the ABB at least a dozen times, they were spot on every night and Dickey was amazing whether he was playing with Derek or Warren or anyone else. I think they'll love hearing Dickey every time!

    • @EdA1
      @EdA1 Месяц назад +3

      @@joemoe765 absolutely I think Dickey is just as great a player as Duane Allman was but in a very different way! I had picked this song for them because they had not yet a song that had Duane on it, but yes absolutely agree. They have a lot to discover with this fantastic band! I’ve been playing in an Allman Brothers tribute band for the last 20 years and I get to do both parts depending on the song and I feel honored just to play their music!

    Even though lots of people focus on the guitar in this band, you also want to notice how much is added by the keyboards. The keys add a level to the music that takes it where it would not be able to go otherwise. This song and Midnight Rider and Melissa all have amazing sound, partly due to the keyboards. That is Gregg Allman playing them while singing. Fantastic.

    I have to say, I am always in favor of studio versions first , both for reactors and fans. But Whippin' Post is an exception. Allman Bros really went national with the release of Live at the Fillmore East. Allman Brothers is a jam band with 2 drummers, two lead guitarists with Dickie Betts and Duane. If only on your own, listen to this song live. Please.

Dewayne Allman one of the best blues guitarists and Greg Allman one of the best blues vocalists Janis Joplin being another. Rest in peace to them all. @sandraandmichaelfield1602 I was also born in 1953. My older siblings all listened to rock and roll. As you know this was when rock actually got started, with Elvis, The Big Bopper and Jerry Lee Lewis. So of course I grew up in their shadows so I was into rock. Then came th 60s which in my opinion was the best decade. In '69 was when like I said I was introduced to hard rock. Then came the 80's and 90's which brought about heavy metal and alternative rock. In the 90's my son was in his teens and listened to Nirvana, Slipknot and Metallica. I at the the time was strictly into classic rock and couldn't stand that stuff. Then moving up to about 5 years ago I for some reason was listening to a Slipknot song and discovered that I actually like that kind of music. So as the old saying goes....you can't teach an old dog new tricks.....doesn't apply to me. Now some of my favorite bands are AC/DC, SLIPKNOT AND NIRVANA. But my heart still stays true to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath and the 60s.

    So much heart and soul went into the lyrics and vocals. And then you add to that the perfect backing instrumentation. Such power to match the heartache.

    Two lead guitarists and two drummers make all the difference!! Frank Zappa did a great version of Whipping Post too with Bobby Martin on vocals.
