‘MAKE20’ 프롤로그 -
데뷔를 한 지 곧 ‘스무 살’이 되어 ‘MAKE20’을 준비하게 되었다.
‘MAKE20’이라는 큰 틀 속에서, 나 자신의 음악에 대한 새로운 기대와 가능성을 마음껏 공유 하고 싶다. 그렇다고 해서 지금까지 불러온 나의 음악을 부정하는 것은 절대 아니며, 무조건 새로움을 추구한다는 것 또한 아니다. 국내외를 막론하고 과거의 주옥 같은 음악은, 당시의 모든 오감을 되살려주는 타임머신과 같은 역할을 해주고 있지 않은가. 다만, 지금까지 내가 불러온 음악이 정체되지 않고, 계속 흘러가고 있음을 보여주는 한 줄기가 되기를 바랄 뿐이다.
‘MAKE20’ 속에는 ‘RE-MAKE’, ‘NEW-MAKE’, ‘WE-MAKE’로 세 가지의 타이틀로 분류된다.
먼저, 처음 준비한 곡은 ‘난 널 사랑해’의 ‘RE-MAKE’이다. 문학적으로도 고전에는 진리가 담겨있고, 현 세대와 공감할 수 있는 전기적인 무언가를 느낄 수 있다고 본다. 이 노래 또한 가사에서 전달되는 매우 넓고 깊은 사랑이, 많은 이들에게 위로와 감동을 드릴 수 있다고 생각하였다.
리메이크의 특성상 편곡이 큰 숙제였으나, 천재적 재능을 타고난 이효석(조커)의 클래식한 결이 유은재(MAD FRESH)라는 EDM씬의 강자와 만나 묘한 매력을 풍기는 곡으로 탄생되었다. 협업의 미학을 제대로 느낄 수 있었던 작업이었다.
또한, 원곡을 부른 한국의 ‘휘트니 휴스턴’이라 불릴 만큼 뛰어난 가창력을 지닌 신효범이라는 디바의 ‘난 널 사랑해’가 시대를 뛰어넘어 더욱 많은 이들에게 새로운 감동을 선사할 수 있기를 바란다. 이전 세대에게는 향수를, 현 세대에게는 새로운 음악적 영감을 줄 수 있기를 바라며, 앞으로 조금은 긴 호흡으로 들려드릴 ‘MAKE20’를 함께 즐겨 주셨으면 한다.

김범수의 ‘난 널 사랑해’는 앞으로 김범수가 펼쳐 나갈 그의 음악적 방향과 비전을 담고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 진부한 사운드에 머물러서 안주하거나, 무조건적인 트렌디함을 쫓아가는 것이 아닌 이 두 가지 요소와 김범수만의 스타일로 오묘하면서도 세련됨이 공존하는 곡이다.
