    Program Synopsis
    This program offers a comprehensive overview of strategies to overcome oral hygiene obstacles in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Covering topics on sensory sensitivities, sensory-friendly techniques, and the use of positive reinforcement, the presentation equips participants with actionable insights and practical tools to enhance oral health outcomes for individuals with autism. This presentation will allow participants to gain a deeper understanding of how to navigate sensory challenges and implement effective interventions in their caregiving or professional roles. Following this program, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to make a positive impact in supporting individuals with autism in their oral hygiene journey.
    Activity Objectives
    Participants will be able to recognize common sensory sensitivities experienced by individuals with autism during oral hygiene routines.
    Acquire knowledge of sensory-friendly strategies to address oral hygiene challenges in autism.
    Learn effective strategies for utilizing positive reinforcement to facilitate a successful dental visit for individuals with autism.
    About Gina Williamson MSN, RN
    Gina is the Director of Children’s Services at Anderson Center for Autism. A graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor’s in Nursing Science, Ms. Williamson received an Associate’s Degree from Dutchess Community College and worked as a dialysis nurse for the early part of her career. With an extensive background in human services, eight years ago Ms. Williamson joined Anderson Center for Autism’s team as the Children’s Nurse Supervisor, which led to a role as Health Services Coordinator, a well-deserved promotion to Director of Health and Related Services, and ultimately received a promotion to her current position of Director of Children’s Services. She believes in transformational leadership, inspiring and motivating her team as they work together to develop and carry out services that support the well-being of people with autism. Ms. Williamson is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing at Capella University.
