You can get the alternator recored and even turned up if you want. Cheaper than a rebuilt unit and usually runs better.

I just fucked up my alternator mudding and had to replace . Not even crazy deep mud but still fucks it up. Had a brand new battery so didn’t have to replace it. Just charged it right up after I replaced the alternator.

It’s not easy cause on those trucks you need to replace the tensioner idler pulley anytime you take those belts off you need to do them

I’ve owned 5 gmt400s. Every single one had this problem and it was from bad cable connections. Some on battery, some on alternator, and some the ground on frame. Check every and all battery connections.
FYI- a 13mm and 1/2” are the same size 👍

Jump starting it and checking the alternator with a basic meter tells you everything. Should be about 14 volts
Installing a radio is easy u just need a Stereo a dash kit there like 20.00 and a wire harness there like 20.00 all u do is match up the wires and plug it in to the factory harness and there u go bestbuy and autozone have the kits and harness for car stereos
Lead acis batteries dont like to be bounced around heavily. I killed 2 vrand new ones in 5 minutes on a rough oil patch service road.

Once you upfit an old vehicle with a nice radio, you would be supprized how much it modernizes it. Same as detailing an old interior, people always start putting more care into there old vehicle when its a nice place to be.

Wait....so you fixed a dead battery by installing a new alternator? I don’t think that’s how that works. Either your battery had a bad connection, or you jumped it. I would’ve just checked the connection or taken the battery and had it load tested before buying a new alternator. Anyway, good video, loved the truck jump.

you should have went to the auto parts store and get the alternator voltage tested, before you decided to replace it. I guess it had mud on the connections lol.

Ricardo The PC Wizard the alternator testers at auto parts stores test the regular bridge diodes for forward bias, and the stator is checked for continuity. No voltage testing involved.

I’d kill to have my alternator in a location that convenient. I have a Mitsubishi montero sport, and the alternator is tucked down in the bottom right of the engine compartment where the easiest way to get it off is to take the wheel off. So to anybody that says “imports are reliable they run forever”, yea they do. But when they do break down they are a bitch to work on.
