We Fall Down, that song still makes be cry like a baby. I think a lot of us who take the time to seriously look ourselves in the mirror “on the daily,” can totally relate to the words. Butterfly Kisses was/is lovely and touching, but We Fall Down touches my soul in a deep way that few other songs ever have. Being that I’m 6 decades old, and have listened to thousands upon thousands of song from every genre imaginable, I wish I could somehow let Mr. Carlisle know that I thank him for allowing himself to be a vessel used by The Creator of all souls to write a song that helps this one small soul get up and face another day when it feels about as far down in the pit as any human has ever been.
I danced with my Dad to "Butterfly Kisses" at my wedding. Dad passed away last month, and that song will forever have a special place in my heart. Thanks for the update on Bob Carlisle.
Bob Carlise was a solid singer. I just thought of him today because of his song "Father's Love". I thought of him because today is Father's Day! I purchased two of his albums (cassettes back then) because he was so good. Music has changed quite a bit since the 90's and the change has not been for the good.
In 88 a friend of mine handed me a cassette of Allies ...WOW!! As a new Christian then I was looking for new music since I was done with the worlds tunes. Randy on guitar and Bob singing was it!!! There is no voice like Bob....simple! To this day I tell people.. That man can SING!! Bob, if you ever read this, thank you for the music and your life for Christ. You are the man :)
We Fall Down is one of the best five Christian songs across-the-board that I have ever heard in my nearly 50 years on this planet. i'm 6 foot 1, over 200 pounds, but every time I hear that song it breaks me down to a knee.
Hi Dave. Thanks for this video. I am a diehard Allies fan and still listen to this day. A little piece of funny/interesting trivia...Bob Carlisle and Randy Thomas wrote a song that Dolly Parton made really famous called Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That. I laughed when i found out. Randy evidently still does small venues and churches in the south, but mainly Florida. I miss Bob Carlisle's incredible voice, but have every Allies cd and 2 if Bob's solo cds. Thanks again for posting. You have just made me one of your fans and will subscribe as soon as i finish writing this small book. Sorry for the length of this post.
I interviewed Bob Carlisle last year it's on my utube channel it was a great interview, he explains what he is doing now and yes, I agree, no one can wail out a song like he can especially his version of crying in the chapel. I interview the older famous CCM artist back when music was good (several artists on my channel here, more will be added this year). I agree with you that after '92 there was a drop in talented music, songs etc. I like you feel it was perpetrated, (NWO) like the bad art and ugly building that came out during the 70's till now. (a way to dumb down or oppress the human spirit). Thanks you for your report!
Besides "Butterfly kisses" my favorite is "Getting Stronger" great lyrics. Also loved the Allies work. From that era Degarmo & Key and Kieth Green were my favorites. "Casual Christian" By Degarmo was great. Along those lines "Living in the comfort zone" by Scott Wesley Brown. Ever listened to the album "New Earth" by John Michael Talbot amazing!
Well this was fun it’s always interesting to hear the stories of my friends as if they’re not here anymore LOL Bob went back to his roots in Latin soul and funk he was working on some songs with me last year for a project called Little Bobby C and big motor. The stuff was rocking.. But I don’t think he’s real motivated to get out there and leave home. I am on the other hand I’m still working for food LOL
You two guys really inspired me to start singing as a teen. I owe y’all a lot! As well as Michael English and Aaron/ Jeofrey. Y’all had the 90’s on lock down, nobody was better than you all. And I’ve yet to see a another group of people get to the level y’all did with the feel and dynamics that you all had.
Bryan, mr SWEET COMFORT BAND, I am dating myself, love all your music, and Bobs too, saw you in wichita, Kansas, and also Allies, in wichita too!!! Keep on making music
Ooohh, I miss you Bryan Duncan! I miss Wayne Watson, Bob Carlyle, Steven Curtis Chapman - all the other great! Please put out some more Spirit inspired music!
Thank you for mentioning Bryan Duncan! I didn't know all this about Bob Carlisle! I do know he used to play at a bar in downtown Long Beach, CA doing Prince covers!
As a fan of CCM (in general) and Bob Carlisle, i appreciate you giving him his props. I would suggest, however, that the Contemporary Christian music scene was more diverse than you suggest in the 90's. Anybody who was able to catch Z Music Television during that time saw Christian rap, r & b, country, pop, rock, metal, and even a bit (okay, a wee bit) of reggae. Still, much of that scene was adult contemporary, as you suggest.
I just made a comment with a long (partial) list of artist. I went to many concerts and it was mainly the younger gen. Carmen repeadily filled stadiums with teens.
He married the singer Belinda Carlisle and went to live in the UK in a place called Carlisle...My friend Carl bumped into him on New Years Eve on the Isle of Man an island off the Irish Sea between the UK and Ireland...He said I wish that Dave the music observer on RUclips would mention me I seem to have been forgotten...Well Bob your wish has NOW come true 😀👌👍
D M They have in fact they joined the British ska band The Beat on stage and all sang together in Carlisle town hall of all places how weird is that eh?
Bob Carlisle has just come across my radar here in the UK. Wow what an artist and what a voice. I’ve been listening to all the songs on Spotify, beautiful lyrically and musically. His songs have really started me thinking about so many things. I am so glad I have now found Hispanic, the timing is perfect….
I think Matthew ward sang a song called LOVE which has the same idea or let us say same message in his album Armed and Dangerous. It was a little earlier than Bob's butterfly kisses.
I feel butterfly kisses has a lot in common with father of the bride. They’re both treated as “chick products” but both are about a father losing his girl to marriage and having to deal with all of that
On Bobs FB page he put up a video of a clothes dryer being destroyed with a large heavy object placed inside it. He drew a parallel between it and his musical journey.
Stories told or not Bob really caught my attention and turned the switch on for Bryan D. They’re music touched me deeper than most Sunday Worship songs.
Dave I highly suggest you check out Christian artist Michael English especially his first two albums that came out in the 90s. The guy is super talented vocally and I got to meet him at one of his concerts he's a super nice guy. Let me know what you think.

"Sing the phone book" The idea is that the phone book (a list of people's names and numbers) would be an extremely dull thing to sing, so anyone who could make it worth listening to must have a fantastic voice and generally be a great performer. Of course, it's not meant literally.
The 80's and 90's had so many incredible players and singers. Diverse genres of music. All those artists from those 2 decades have all faded away; I think, around the early 2000's. Now all we get from the Christian music market is one style, one sound. It all sounds the same and it's poorly written music. It's so sad to see that creativity and diversity in music, musicianship...go bye, bye.
They were great, but nobody (except the Rolling Bones) sticks around forever. They began in 1972 and went on their farewell tour in 2006 (?), though they still perform occasionally.
John Schlitt has continued to record and perform. Currently he's performing with the Jay Sekulow Band which also features John Elefante. He also did an album with The Union of Saints and Sinners released in 2017.

What happened to Darrell Mansfield? What happened to Phil Keaggy?
Randy is still making music and touring up till the pandemic. He then started weekly online concerts from his home.

I'll stick with the Christian Hard Rock stylings of Faith Plus One.
