This Gullah land should be registered as an historic landmark. The Gullah people arrived directly from Africa as slaves and live African culture until this day. Then the land will be more protected from predators.
Is registered as that but still being taken.
GG PEOPLE WERE MUSLIMS SO THEY ARE NOT LIVING THE GG CULTURE TODAY.

@@DeeRellHamid The Gullah Geechee people are descendants of Africans who were enslaved on the rice, indigo and Sea Island cotton plantations of the lower Atlantic coast. Many came from the rice-growing region of West Africa. Fact checking is important.

I really love how they took a stand to keep their property! Land ownership is important!
It sure is sister. What do we really have? Each other and a place to call home.
Everything else is temporary and deception.

they only own 2-3% of the property here and live in trailer parks. You want this to be a story that just isn't.
@@JeanetteFaith LIES! They own more they have family homes and many were stolen and then sold. STFU !
@@computablu NO! I live here and you have no idea of anything. A few tiny farms and LOTS of run-down trailers......and some burn trash in their front yard. YOU need to travel more and also need a history class.

Yep! Sure was the inspiration for that show.

it's development...but the part they're not saying out loud is development at the expense of the People.
I am from the 'gullah geechee' area...and I get calls all the time about 'selling' my property that my grandfather purchased....not going to happen as long as my eyes are open. The people wanting to purchase have no idea of what they are trying to purchase....the history of the land and the people on the land. It saddens me to see so many people from outside coming in and purchasing and changing the landscape.
I understand about people moving in. They are planning 500+ new homes with in a 1 mile radius of me

Why isn't this land for these people protected like Indian reservations/tribal lands are? They should find out how to keep developers from stealing. I pray they keep their land...a sacred land. ♥️🙌
It is not "protected" due to many people not standing up collectively due to assimilation. Therefore, they sell or lose the interest that their family members have in prime real estate which benefits counties and cities and not natives of the Gullah/Geechee Nation when the properties are sold.
She should put up a BIG sign: NOT FOR SALE.

Ok, but how on earth do you relate them burning trash and not owning most of the land to a story about how climate change is imposing on the survival of their culture?
My Bigmom's dad, my great great grandad was Saltwater Geechee. People tried to shame him for having an accent and being "country". My branch of the family came to Michigan a century ago, but since childhood l was always curious about my roots. I am very proud of my Geechee heritage.
My mother is a descendant from the Little Pee Dee River people - some of which were migrated into the Gullah Geechee people. This is incredibly sad. My mom left this area back in the 60s, and never had the chance to go back. What exactly is the answer to prevent this from happening? Someone below noted that they should be made into a historic landmark - I couldn't agree more.
Little Pee Dee River flows right into Gullah lands in South Carolina. Just south of the NC border. I grew up in abd around Wilmington NC. We share the same culture. We be Gullah too
Developers. Stop the developers. That would be a great first step. Hilton head had and still has this problem. When they couldn't get gullah to sell they raised land taxes to chase them out. All for developers and tourists. It's happening all over the lowcountry. Filling in swamps and marshy land with clay to build gated communities for northerners to retire in. Shopping plaza after shopping plaza. It's ruining everything that made the lowcountry beautiful.

As a West African born person that understand my real heritage as a descendant of the tribe of Judah - I can sniff the opposition to Africa. I see and know many connections between Gullah people and the west coat because I've lived it. Same similarities I see in so called native American culture. That doesn't mean the Gullah people didn't migrate to this land just like the other natives to the Americas via the river Eurphrates. @@seventhchild7270 yep! I actually learned about imminent domain on the Netflix series, High On the Hog, where the host was in the Carolinas in one of the episodes.
I see when the people loved the land the land gave to them what they needed. When the people no longer loved but pillage the land the land will let the sea consume. Sometimes the land turns itself to dust.
The old is fading but the new is doomed as the sea is called ashore...
Stop being so welcoming to the enemy gullaj wasn't known for laying down and taking it
It's overwhelming. I'm in Georgia and I'm aware of the affect on the coastlines here. We are losing land at an increasingly rapid pace and it's affecting the wildlife. I don't know what to do except make lifestyle changes myself that could decrease impact on the planet. 2 Thes 2:3
Praise the Lord, who is God.
Give Him glory, that's our JOB.
Who is the Lord?
Few will say.
Future tense?
No, TODAY.
The great falling away already started.
From His truth, THEY departed.
They love the world, and the things in it.
Yet, it all was written FROM the beginning.
Made manifest in the word.
Once was flooded,
Soon to burn.
Prophesy is being fulfilled as I write this,
Even as my flesh tries to fight this.
Overcome, by HIS spirit.
The end is near, and I don't fear it.
Fear of the Lord IS the beginning of wisdom.
A place for US, in HIS kingdom.
Written before the foundation of the world, We jump over the swine, and retain our pearls.
God absolutely, irrevocably is "A man of His word"
Amen.

Paving turns rural areas into heat islands. The point is to end that type of overbuilding on the coast in order to reduce these temperature increases that they bring to these forested and farming areas on the coast.
It is a deep wound to my heart that so many First Nations people and victims of human trafficking (like the Gullah) have waged a war against continuing genocide. The land is so fundamental to their identity; as a Caucasian I mourn that I benefit at their expense. The wisdom of Gullah and other Native People is still under attack because we only understand land through its monetary value.
