    As someone who's had to deal with Oedema I find this very interesting. Thank you for a very clear explanation! I think that the reason for my legs and feet to swell was due to sitting too much behind my computer during very hot days of summer. I've since then started walking on a daily basis and apart from losing weight I've not had to deal with Oedema since :)

      Thank you so much, I also have this problem...I want to cuss it but more than that, I want to be rid of it. I wouldn’t wish this on my worse enemy. But I will definitely take your advice & hopefully I can leave it in the past. I am so tired of it keeping me awake at night. Again thank you for your helpful comment.

    I am not an MD, but understand most of medical diagnosis’ being in the medical community for 40:years. Developed late onset severe RA and now for the first time......pitting edema in both feet and legs. Being Celiac and having a large hiatal hernia is adding to the equation. Your lecture was highly informative a precisely to the
    point. Numerous testing is beginning to get some answers. I stumbled on this video after becoming a fan of your on the COVID-19 videos. Thank you ever so much.😊

    No, Most of the tissue fluid is reabsorbed under the influence of osmotic pressure at the venous end of the capillary. This is the normal physiological situation. The hydrostatic pressure is lower at the venous end, so there is less force pushing outwards. The osmotic pressure is generated by the plasma proteins, mostly albumin. It is true that after significant haemorrhage, the hydrostatic pressures will be less, so less tissue fluid will be formed, and more reabsorbed.

    You just described the problem I've had for almost a year since chemo. I can only sip throughout the day or I urinate it out. I wake early because a few hours sleep without water dehydrates me. So far only a urologist admited my urine showed dehydration. I can only tolerate steamed vegetables at this point, if I eat animal protein I become unbearably dehydrated. I have reduced lymphatic drainage (lost 11 in mastectomy); allergies (anaphylactic shock for almost a year after iatrogenic chemo/pharm drug damage/psych drug withdrawal caused histamine intolerance & allergies to many foods); I imagine I become unbearably dehydrated when I eat protein because I hve decreased plasma protein & my capillaries have increased permeability. I've lost 15 pounds in six months (I look like a proteeinemia kid, docs think I'm "thin"; docs dismiss my normally 90/60 dropping to 78/42 as "normal"; my urine has foam (varies depending on what I eat). What specialist can I see about this? Every doctor I see tells me there's nothing wrong with me & want to put me on antidepressants (my bloods "aren't that bad," though I don't want to wait until they are). I will take no more drugs, so I can only heal through diet; and I'd really like to get some plasma (albumin?) infusions. What specialist can I see, and do you have any tips on how to approach him? As dehydrated as I am, it's only a matter of time before the cancer spreads (got pushed into the vascular space around the lymphs from the mammos before surgery. I refused radiation & tamoxifen, will never do chemo again. I'm running out of time). Thanks for giving me the answer I've been looking for for over four months!!!

    Hello, Dr. John Campbell it's nice to see you and your video lecture. Very helpful indeed. I think I am also having swelling problem since 2014 (first appeared in October). Swelling occur if I sit for long hours(i.e-2/3 hours). But it(swelling) remains only for a day. In 2014 I went to doctor for consultation and they gave me some medication which basically vitamin B complex(B1, B6, B12). Do you think these are the proper medication for swelling legs? I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

    Thank u ,i like all f ur videos bcz the subjects r related to clinical points .
    by the way ,Im confused the effect f vasoconstriction on edema ,From an other aspect vasoconstriction dosent cz edema? ,bcz in vasoconstriction diameter f capilary decrease wich increases resistance thus decreasing blood pressur in capilary .
    Or the effect f vasoconstriction on increasing the size f gaps ( subsequently permeability ) is much more than its effect on capillaries blood pressure ?

    • @Campbellteaching
      @Campbellteaching  4 года назад

      The main symptom of hypernatremia is excessive thirst. Other symptoms are lethargy, which is extreme fatigue and lack of energy, and possibly confusion. Advanced cases may also cause muscle twitching or spasms. That’s because sodium is important for how muscles and nerves work. With severe elevations of sodium, seizures and coma may occur. Severe symptoms are rare and usually found only with rapid and large rises of sodium in the blood plasma.
