It's obvious how much Abbie loves camp! Just the fact she shows it is so exciting! It gives me chills and makes me emotional every time I see and hear the chanting of everyone welcoming the campers!! These counselors/buddies are special people. They definitely have a heart for it!
What a beautiful place !! My sister is in a wheel chair and hasn’t been on a trip or camping since she was a young girl, she is now 60 yr old. We live in NYS where it appears there is one camp 2-3 hrs from buffalo where she may have gone and we just found out about it. Needless to say she is now on a waiting list as that is probably the only place they have for adults. In NYS the disabled are put on the back burner. Im told there is zero funding.
One of the best jobs I ever had; being a camp counselor at a camp for people with physical and mental disabilities, ages 5 to 65 years. The campers were the absolute jewel of camp and every day was fun, even with over-stim situations and a few upsets. The best part was experiencing the joy of returning campers. Next level ❤ It's likely one of the influences for being a nurse now.
