Thank you for posting this very detailed and concise video. I just completed my PCCM+ upgrade this morning and everything went just as you're video details. I couldn't be happier with the results. Thanks!
Great video. Wish this was up when I installed mine last year. Mine suddenly stopped turning off with the car. I found your video to review the process and never knew there was a PCCM+ set up function. I hit that and all is good again!
I thought the install would be pretty straight forward and found your video just before I set out to do this on my own. I am so glad I took the extra few minutes to watch this as you no doubt saved me hours of heartache. This was exactly what I needed! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! So many useful tidbits. I especially appreciated the bits about the spring tabs needing to be inside when installing the side panels, and near then end when you showed where the FM loop was - I would have never found that on my own. And that was the only thing that needed to be done with the subwoofer removed. I don't remember you showing where the optical loop goes, but I found that it is necessary for removing the old "tooki" bluetooth box in the dash... I was originally thinking it would go in the boot with the CD navigation drive, but no... nothing needs to be done up front for this install. Thank again!
Excellent video, convinced me to buy this unit and install it ourselves into a 2008 Cayman replacing the original CDR24 with the Bose package. Good attention to detail, especially about those side spring tabs. We found that plugging the FM antenna wire directly into the top antenna connector, and not using the fiber (yellow + black) connector at all yielded better FM reception. Thank you !
I did the same install on my 987 (with Bose) yesterday and it all went smoothly. The CD changer has power but no longer seems to function. The only differences I noticed are that there is no where to plug the yellow digital FM cord into the car, so it hangs loose behind the unit. Also, FM reception works well like this and the FM bypass is not required either. The unit sounds great and integrates like a factory unit into the system, making it seem like a new car!
That's great feedback!! I did the bypass as I assumed the reception would be hindered by the legacy antenna booster, but maybe it wouldn't matter?! No programming was needed and although I don't have the cd changer, I believe there was an additional bypass / loopback wire that may need to be put in place behind the CD changer up in the hood.
Great video! Very comprehensive. One upgrade I did to my microphone installation is I ordered from Enfig Car Stereo a Porsche 997 microphone that allows the microphone, all be it with some small modifications, to be installed under the housing of the steering column instead of on top as originally instructed for the PCCM+. Ideally, Enfig could manufacture the small housing needed to clip into the factory placement on its own, but in the meantime, spending an extra $50 bucks is worth it for the factory placement upgrade. Not sure why Porsche did not figure this out in the first place.
Thanks for this video! At around 34:00 where does the other end of the fiber optic jumper connect to up in the radio? One of the wires that you already installed on the back of it?
Correction for the subwoofer removal. There is a T30 screw holding the subwoofer but it seems like whoever else removed it last time on your car didn’t screw it back. The 3 prong plastic piece on top of the subwoofer comes up if you just pull it with your hand which opens the screw/hole.
yes you are correct! I noticed that when I was reinstalling it but was to late to re-record. it should have had s small screw under the pop out grill on the woofer. I assembled it the way it should have been origionally! Good catch!
This video clarifies and expands on the install procedure described on the Rennsport website, and makes more sense of it. The install can be frustrating without instructions (by Porsche design). As you note near the end of the video, to properly remove the BOSE subwoofer on the passenger side of the console tunnel: first gently remove the small grilled air vent (on it’s middle bottom is a tab to depress and remove) this allows access to a previously hidden torx bolt that holds on the vent/grill housing. Second, remove that plastic grill housing, allowing access to a larger Torx 30 (with a washer) securing the actual subwoofer to the console. Loosen or remove that T30, and THEN pull the subwoofer toward the rear of the car to continue with head unit removal. 👍🏼
Totally agree and appreciate the additional info! Mine did not have the secure screw in place when I took it off, but i put one in when i reassembled to it would be correctly secured. Thanks again
I noticed that later as well and i went back and regenerated it fixed, BUT... then i was told that if i replaced the vid with a new one any links to it would be lost. So I just left it as a special Easter egg :)
Great video. Did u disconnect the battery when you did all this? I have a cd changer in my 997 turbo in my frunk so what special back loop wiring do I have to do and where plug in? And, I was a little confused about the Bose AM/FM part I guess if my reception is bad I just install the jumper. Ps I’m a UNR grad. Back in Cali now. Cheers. Thx
Just put my order in. I’m watching all the PCCM utube videos. Can I have a back-up cam and dash cam added ? I think the dash cam is a separate independent system ?
Fantastic video! Thank you so much for posting. Now I’ll just have to see how to take apart the DVD navigation unit in the frunk to put the orange bypass loop on it. Also, did you disconnect the battery or was everything ok during the install with it still connected?
Thanks for posting this video. I have been told that the radio reception on the PCCM Plus is not as good as that provided by the original unit. Have you found that to be the case?
I think it is just as good, I believe.... that if you forget to bypass the power antenna in the passenger leg compartment it will have terrible radio reception.
My local Porsche Dealer says only Porsche can correctly do the installation; Is a PWIS required to activate any of th PSSM in a Boxster 987 ? And, should my local car stereo shop (. 30 years in business ) be capable of the installation ?
My dealership told me the same thing, that only they could do the install. I think it is the fastest $1,200 they could ever make. The new PCCM radio did not require any codes to turn on
Great explanation compared to others. I've subscribed. I have a few questions: 1) Was any radio code supplied and any programming needed? I have Cayman 2006 with Bose. 2) Have you had any issues with the unit not turning off. There are some forum people with that issue? Thanks
There wasn't any codes needed to turn on and I just did a normal station channel scan and hit save ( super simple ). After a few months now with the new PCCM I would say that my only complaint is, that the radio turns on every time I start the car. So if you hold in the power button and turn it fully off, it turns back on when you restart the car the next time. I would think that it should stay off if you turn it off until you turn it on again.... interesting... Dealership says this is normal behavior. its a small complaint though
Thanks.Have you seen the volume issues some are having with Carplay function. Did you leave battery connected throughout your install? My PCCM + is backordered@@MNToolBox
The main screen is bnw and i didnt see options for colors, however.... i didnt explore the secret menu to much so there could be something there. with that being said, when I play MP#s from the usb all the song icons are color, so it must support color.
Just a reply, I checked and was told that the main screen is grey to match the other "grey" lighting numbers and digits on the gauges. I guess I can buy that, but I agree, its strange that the sub menus are in color. If i discover anything in the Developers menu or otherwise ill post here.
Wish you would of shown how you removed the bose woofer panel. I know you said it's easy, but.... Can you tell me where the clips are at least. The panel must be removed or else I cannot get to the FM bypass process.
The woofer has a small grill at the top, this grill comes off and there is a screw behind it. then the woofer slides towards the back of the car. Mine had been remoded previously by the original owner so probably when the satellite radio was installed and the installer dd not put the screw back in, so my woofer just slid back and off the bracket. I realized the screw had been missing so I replaced it when I put the woofer back on, which also stopped a woofer rattle that annoyed me.
FYI - It looks like you missed 2 additional screws that hold the side mounts to the front. Each side mount has 2 screws in the side and 1 behind the faceplate. Took me a bit to find where the extra screws went. Looked back through this video that I had bookmarked and noticed it on your installation too.
Yes! I think that the previous owner had an XM radio installed and that whoever did the install left the screws off by accident. ( those darn extra parts after a job ). I did get the screws and put them on so it would be correct. Good catch!
Hi M, thanks for putting this up. I have the unit installed in my 997.1 by my local specialist. But noticed a slight delay / lag in response of the volume knob everytime I use Apple Carplay. It also resets the equalizer (bass/treble) by itself at random 😢. So this feels a bitch glitchy and beta. Have you noticed anything like this? Or anybody else with de 997 units?
I didn't really notice a delay in volume response but I will check again and perhaps others in the comment section might chime in. Mine turns on every time I start the car which is kind of a bummer annoyance. I am not sure if that is the same for others as well..... All in all though, it is a vast improvement!
I had PCCM Plus installed in my 2007 911 997 with a Bose Sound system, and I'm disappointed with the volume level, especially with CarPlay. It can't be compared to the old system. Does anyone know what might be causing this, or is it simply a fact that this PCCM Plus doesn't match the quality of the original system?
I have the same complaint. The volume level is way too low even when it’s turned up to the max when using CarPlay . The radio volume is much louder. There is a sub menu where you can adjust the Bluetooth, tuner, USB port baseline volumes up and down. You can hear a real difference in the tuner volume when adjusted upper down a little difference in the USB when a thumb drive is plugged in but no difference at all with CarPlay. To access sub menu press Car, then set them volume. This is very disappointing.
@@randysklar1260 currently having the same issue..I did adjust the volumes all the way up...but still didn't help. Radio volume is fine/loud when you turn up the volume like you said. But bluetooth and apple car play volume is not at the same max volume level as the radio..I have a cabriolet so a lot of noise from wind and road really diminishes the sound. have you guys found a fix for this? thanks.
A few people asked that in the comments and I an not actually sure as I don't have a changer. One of the other comments said the changer didn't seem to function. I know there was an additional fiber loopback in the box, perhaps that needs to be installed up where the changer is ?! I would be curious to know if you find the answer!
Sorry to hear that, mine sounded substantially better, making the car so much more enjoyable to drive. Do you have an aftermarket amp or something installed?
Thanks for the great video! I have a 997 turbo that I want to upgrade. Has the bose system. Any issues with that? Yeah my local dealer wanted $2000 for install! Love how Porsche doesn't include any instructions on purpose 🙄

I’m kinda glad for the delayed delivery; gives me more time to complete the back up cam installation on my ‘06 987
Got any thoughts on that instal ?
what camera did you go with? I’m currently contemplating which camera to add, and if it’s possible to use with a manual transmission.

My order backordered thru Suncoast Parts for my Cayman 06. Says late January on their website. Good luck
Would be helpful if Porsche provided starting guidance for developer mode MicVolume settings for different car configs such as cabriolet, etc.

The A pillars did not need to come off on the US models, to the best of my knowledge. Total time was 2 maybe 3 hours
