Knowing that people intend to use these projectors for effects like this, it would be great if aaxa provided some specialized lens configurations for ultra-short throws (like a fisheye) or a 90° telescoping lens. Have you thought about 1-2 neodymium magnets to “attach” the head to the top of the mirror assembly? That would allow for easy installation/removal and minimize mucking around with glue or velcro. Impressively effective, Derek! Looking forward to the finalized and fully tricked-out version! Happy Holidays!
Always my favorite part of the ride. The problem solving in the builds are always my favorite part of the videos! Thanks for sharing the whole process.
Love the channel, especially the Halloween props (Long time haunter here). It appears you can stream to this projector (Not verified) and, as an example, have Mrs. Van Oaks be Madame Leota in real time. Hide a small hidden camera near the stand broadcasting to a screen she could see, then she could interact and comment in real time with people looking at the prop or nearby. Not an inexpensive prop, but lots of potential. Maybe setup the prop to be able to be switched quickly from live broadcast to recorded video so as to allow breaks for the Madame Leota actor.
Nice! But why fix the head on the mirror? Could it be attached to the front of the crystal ball based, by the neck? That would make it easier to fit both, maybe?
Possibly, yes. I think there’s probably a few ways to go about it. I’ve seen someone mount the mirror and face to the acrylic ball and have great success.
Yes...finally get to see Madam Leota in all her ghostly form, great alternative to peppers ghost method. Then can you try the stretching portrait room please and thank you... I got the prints on the way but I want your take on how to proceed. Now on with the video...
Amazing. Can't wait to see this. Just watched it. Genius work again my friend. Pepper ghost effect seems to be a very suitable technique. Where did you come by the actual projection file? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the idea! Been wanting to do inside projectors for other character ideas. Mostly inspired by mr.chickin's ghoul behind a tombstone. Which im sure the same totorial could work for something like this.
That would be neat to see the head “floating” on a cold layer of fog though Derek’s concern about coating the inside of the sphere with glycerine is a legit concern. Perhaps some testing as to how much/how long exposure to fog introduced into the sphere would result in a discernible residue build-up? Maybe a raspberry pi driven pump/vacuum system disguised as the legs of the crystal ball support could cycle through pumping the sphere full of fog (making it appear more or less opaque and lit by a simple color wave projection) and then sucking the fog back out while transitioning the color wave to the face projection?...
Another amazing video! The first time Disney actually used internal rear projection was 25 years ago for the pre show snake in the Magic Lamp Theater at Tokyo DisneySea. They were trying to find the best way to animate the eyes to eat the most responsiveness and the R&D Team had just worked out small projectors that could fit inside the snake head and project they eyes onto translucent eye shapes. This allowed us to have the function as normal, Blink, shift and look in all directions PLUS have come fun things like turn into hypnotic spirals and other great features. They also came up with an amazing projection system to cover most of a large crystal ball shape. Thanks again for a great build!
I want to try this with the Hauntleys animated head. My only concern with that, is the head is black rendering the protection not as bright and clear. IDK if painting the head white would work, i feel the projection wouldn't project through. I also wonder if I could use the internal projector and mechanisms from even a talking pumpkin and do the same thing, and use a milk jug w a heat dryer to mold a transparent head and put the internal projector inside of the milk-jug head...🤔🤔 I don't have a 3-D printer, having to think outside the box.
OH, this gives me ideas.....With the projector and head essentially fixed together, you could add a rig to have the entire assembly "float", change the projector to above and with some creative masking of the arm..........
I like this concept. I recently purchased this projector, and I'm really impressed with it. But I don't like how it shows the video progress bar/buttons and file name on the screen at the start of each file. Does yours do this and do you know a way to turn it off? Kind of ruins the effect when another tech displays when not wanted.
This is awesome! I just started working on my Halloween props for this year. I'm doing a Hauted Mansion themed walkthrough in my garage. Unfortunately Chickenprops doesn't seem to have the form anymore. I'm going to try experimenting with the milk jug skull to see if I can get something serviceable.
@VanOaksProps I absolutely love your channel. I love building halloween stuff. I really want to build a vintage. Fortune teller booth. And then get inside and be the fortune Fortune teller and give out fortune cookies. I built the whole costume of predator. I won first prize. I did every part of it myself. Even the head piece and painted the costume with muscles.. The hardest part was trying to do the dreadlocks. Because you need a material that can move easily when you move your head back And fourth. I didn't have time to order it from china The foam tubes
Great job! Wish this how too had been out last year this time. I just did the Haunted Mansion this halloween. I managed with the projector outside of the globe but this would have been so much better. Ps thanks for your etsy store with the haunted mansion file for the candle holder, I printed a couple and they looked great. This year thinking about pirates of the Caribbean any how too videos or etsy files woul be great. Thanks again!
Always love a VanOaks Prop Lab! Lots of people ask about using the Sybil the Clairvoyant kit for an internal projection setup. Here's the answer!

I enjoy watching people figure stuff out, too. It's fascinating.

Thanks so much for this tutorial, I’ve been trying to find instructions on creating an internally-projected Leota forever! Definitely building this!
Glad it was helpful!
Why would I ever think this would be less than awesome
Again an AWSOME prop, I love it 🙂
Sweet!!! A little bit of smoke and that'll be a great addition. Thanks for the idea!!!
You bet
You always do some whacky stuff on this channel. It's what keeps me coming back again and again. I love optics
WOW!!!! We have an external one that we made that's pretty darn good. This is amazing!!!!
Thank you for this. After seeing internal facial projections at WDW, I’ve been wanting to figure out how to do this. Great work!
Outstanding my friend!
Thanks!
Huzzahs, a great build!
Great, inspiring project! Thank you for sharing it with us 👍
Thanks for watching!
This is a great idea. Having a hard time on which way to go on my Leotta display for Halloween.
Where did you get the globe?

I'M THINKING GOING TO MAKE IT FOR MY HALLOWEEN🎃 WEDDING ANNIVERSARY 🥂PARTY IDEAS THIS GOING TO BE WICKED.
Genius!! I appreciated you showing the hiccups along the way too!
Before Halloween's over with, I'm already figuring out my next move for the next year. I love halloween

And why I come here. Great prop. I've got a couple AAXA projectors. They get the job done nicely. This would be a fun prop to hax, no doubt.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I was able to find a version on youtube.
@VanOaksProps so cool. Love it man.
Time to start building props for the 2024 Halloween haunt!
Thank you for the idea! Been wanting to do inside projectors for other character ideas. Mostly inspired by mr.chickin's ghoul behind a tombstone. Which im sure the same totorial could work for something like this.
Ah-mazing!
Hey Derrick, quick question on the globe do you recommend the 6” or 6.50 opening? BTW Happy Holidays to you and the wife.
10" opening.
What size is the crystal ball part and where is everyone getting them pls. I'm in Canada
Links to all materials are in the video description.
What size globe did you use?
16 inch. There's a link to the one I used in the video description, too.
Listening to this while working on Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts tree roses for an event. ❤
Would adding a fog machine make the image too hard to see? It might add a cool depth to the illusion
Probably. It would also coat the inside of the acrylic globe with glycerin, which isn't ideal.

@@VanOaksProps Thanks!! Sent you a DM on your IG :-)

Looks interesting! Wondering if I can put my own face in there. I tend to scare a lot of people!
Anything is possible!

That's correct!

It depends on the projector. The one I used didn’t have the text overlay when it looped

He may have some available a bit later in the year.
Chicken Props has these face forms in stock as of July 6 2024
That’s correct!
Lumins?
1100
Is the projection a cartoon?
It's the same video file used in the attraction.
awesome project! thanks 😀
Glad you like it!
Where did you get the crystal ball?
There's links to everything in the video description if you want to build your own :-)
