Remarkable to understand how obsidian can tell such a detailed story of native peoples occupation of the land. Seems like native peoples being able to house the artifacts of their ancestors is the right way to do things. Thanks 🙂
Thank you for the video. There is an outcrop of obsidian near the south end of the Salton Sea. The volcano is considered active and will erupt again at some future date. If you are interested in learning more about this outcrop, search for "obsidian butte".
I did some claim staking east of Independence, Ca...A considerable amount of obsidian was there and also projectile points..and old encampments. We also found aboriginal mines with blue earth and stones as the objective. I'll not give any other details.. this was a rich area for evidence of early man. Found and left as is. I also lived in Winnemucca in the 50s.. plenty of obsidian there and a considerable amount of artifacts. I have never revealed the locations and hope they are still intact. I might also mention we found evidence of Spanish intrusion.
The owens valley is the winter home for the Numu. Even during the ice age. . The mono/Northern paiute/Bannock/shoshone peoples were very warlike and the owens valley is the Numic homeland .. . LANGUAGE map shows this. THE eastern shoshone are from the owens valley . Ethnogenisis of the eastern shoshone shows this . Most numic oral history shows they came from the owens valley
At 12:56 time, I’m loving the comment by Gerald Hunter. At the ancient sites, you are all affected by the area, the spiritual link to the past; it’s where people gathered, said prayers, passed down the traditions over a campfire. 👍 Yes indeed. Well said.
in all my hunts through all of the west ,obsidian has been there whether it was traded or a secret out cropping, the things I found were incredible and I put my own story together of how and when these peoples lived, and lets don't forget about the giants? DNA shows us where the natives came from and the approximate time. the giants are a different story, my search continues for the truth... thank you for the video, well done
Lots of obsidian in Shasta County too. An old neighbor once told me his grandfather was the tribal guardian of local colored obsidian beds. And only number three in the comment section.
I know of a obsidian mine the ancients used in napa county and near the mine close to a creek there is so much material it must have been the site used to knapp
One important area left out of the act is the creation of agriculture on Native American sites. If a developer wants to build on a site they must do an archaeological survey. But if someone wants to create a 100 acre vineyard, no archaeological survey necessary. Just rip up the soil and plant. How many archaeological sites were destroyed by farmers?
CA has tons of obsidian rocks of all sizes, which has little value at the source since there's so much of it. Have seen huge deposits in the northern & eastern parts. The quality wasn't there, but the deposits were. Obsidian galore!!!
This is really sad. People my age (20’s) 22 to be exact don’t pay attention to native human history nor any history really. @@lightningstarsky right on brother! I’m 26 I live in Southern California riverside county to be exact. You wouldn’t believe the dead brain people we have here that don’t know crap about our past or where we originally come from. These lands are being destroyed and not respected
No love for the Salton Seas Obsidian Butte, or other So Cal sources? I know it has lots of inclusions but it's still a stone tool quality CCS. If this vidio is from the SHPOs official channel you should also include southern California obsidian sources as well, that's not cool.

So we have been told that in Nevada the only sources were from either Mt. Shasta, or Bishop. We have found many areas covered in obsidian in Nevada.

Very interesting!! Always enjoyed finding pieces of obsidian !!
Living here in Wisconsin, I've traded for obsidian points, etc which originated from North, and South Dakota----
I found about 4 5 gallon buckets full of obsidian on an island in the Middle of the DesMoines River, in Iowa any ideas how it got here?
Modoc county checking in with lots of obsidian too!

@Jack Ophelott I have
"A human being must be very sharp indeed to understand the values of obsidian. That black glass used throughout the lands of no metal so long ago."
Obsidian, thank you for the science.

Thousands of acres-- Now, farmers are tearing out the orange groves to plant almonds, and developers are tearing up the rest----
Ceremonial sites, and burial grounds get trampled along the way----
Right on through Az and New Mexico too

Owens valley obsidian!
Kinda like cutting Mona Lisa's eyeball out to see if it's fake.
So NATIVES built Pyramids, but this doesn't coincide with what's in this video?
they look like dragon scales!
And they still lie to us about the facts

Too bad California became too dangerous of a place to go to. Very sad situation.
We took away what was there's that God gave them and we should be ashamed.
