They can just be called blended winglets. Why sharklets? This means that Boeing 737s, Boeing 757s, and Boeing 767s are also equipped with sharklets.
Aviation Partners has a patent on "blended winglets", Airbus therefore chosed to call it "sharklets", to avoid paying royalties. So to be honest, Aviation Partners is to blame for that name.
