It's not possible because without connecting the HDD to any source you will not able to moved the data to any external device. What I want say that if you make hdd external it cause formatting and if you star you hdd as internal which contain OS it will work fine

There is no way rather than formatting. Backup your imp data as much as possible. Insert your hdd in laptop ... Wait for responding
