An alternative would be merging 171 with 974, since their frequencies are more alike. Now, imagine an express variant of this new service skipping Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang, and Mandai...
Excellent suggestion! Combination of a direct route from Yishun to Bukit Panjang and Chinese Garden to Bukit Panjang sounds like a perfect match. Hopefully, LTA can give this suggestion a thought when trying to optimize bus routes since it will be a win for both LTA and commuters
Me personally, I am not against such a merger. For one, riding on the NSL constantly in the morning peak hours, I can tell you train capacity picks up a ton past Yishun. Not only is the NSL going one big round to get to Jurong East, but if things are not sorted out soon, Jurong East MRT station may be a potential hot spot for a crowd crush. With this reasons, yeah, I can see why taking 171 and transferring to 180 is a preferred option. The problem I have, though, is who will be operating this combined route (180 for future references, since this is a nicer number). 171 is currently under Mandai, and 180 is under Gali Batu, both under different operators. Considering TTS's track record in Mandai, and unless they get some leeway to loan buses from Bulim to assist, this is a potential logistics problem.
Ofc. I would take the direct bus service. Maybe towards Yishun, still can serve the Bukit Panjang Exit A bus stop. Towards Boon Lay, just skipping BPITH. Can have the negotiation contract with SBST. Then the fleet from SEDEP/AMDEP & SLBP. Swop operator with Svc 117 to TTS Mandai.
I spoke about it 2 years ago but LTA said it wasn't in the best interests of commuters because the route would be too long. But they were OK with creating the present alignments of 14 and 51 back in the 1990s.
Why not merge 513 and 502? Like that would be more reasonable. And it can offer an alternative to the east west line, for those who need to travel from east to west, or from west to east. Eg. NSFs.

Oh yay if merge, there will be another sbst in Bukit Panjang!!
What about a new service from Yishun to Boon Lay instead of merging 171 and 180?

Wtf how is that long
@@TIB1234T that's what LTA told me. When I suggested 983 instead they still said too long.
An excellent combination, but we alr have 974.
Hi tib1234t i guess you are well, alive & steady. If you're not well, how could you make a new video. Anyway nice video.
Nice Video!
Sure is. Next video: merging 66 with 122.
Why 66 & 122?
@@TIB1234T longish story. I have some similar ideas on Wiki Routes. Feel free to check those out.
I cant access to that site tho. Can send the link if possible?
Of Course Then I can take from West Chinese Garden to North Side Like Woodlands/Bukit Panjang easily

Via CBD? Smarttt but i think can do smth to alternate 502 like 502A for current 502, then 502 can merge with 513
