Wow, way to go Frank! These are three of probably the most iconic live clips of the guys available anywhere. Nick, you and Lex should consider checking out the Rush documentary "Rush in Rio: The Boys in Brazil" about that trip in the early 2000s. I know it's a long time for Lex to sit but perhaps you could break it into 3 or 4 parts (about an hour long altogether). **Also keep watching to the end as there's a cameo appearance from a very special guest at 37:00!
They are just brilliant. What a great way to ease into the weekend. A glass of single malt in one hand, headphones on and Rush on the screen. And a surprise visit from Alexia as well!! I have the Rush in Rio DVD, and I've seen the Greatest Intro Ever lots of times on YT, but I had never seen the Working Man in Cleveland video before. Absolutely awesome, and testimony to what made Rush so great, their love and respect for the fans of Cleveland (who put them on the map really) and their ability to work new ideas into their songs. No other band makes me feel the way Rush makes me feel, I saw them once only, in Manchester 2007, but am so grateful for having that experience. Thanks Nick and Frank.
Does it get any better than this? Three awesome videos followed up with seeing the beautiful smile of Lex. By the way Lex that necklace is a home run. Beautiful.
Thx Nick, you made the start of my weekend even better! So glad and privileged to have seen them live 35 times over the years. There will never be 3 musicians who perform as phenomenal as Alex, Geddy, and Neil !
🎶 begin the day with a friendly .... face 🎶😄 and some Rush on a Saturday morning. YYZ is for sure in my alltime TOP10 of live songs I have on DVD. I bought the DVD back in 2003, right after its release. Starting to watch, I got the chills, when they opened the concert with Tom Sawyer and was completely blown away watching DVD. I love watching concerts in middle and southern america, with the people singing along, but this singing of an instrumental track is unique. And see the crowd dance and celebrate gives me an idea, what happens, when Brazil won / is gonna win (Dec. 18 ? who knows) the soccer world cup. Nick, you will be surprised hearing, that this was Rush's first tour to Brazil ever..... all this written after 1 song ... let's continue. The version of Working men is simply awesome .... and has ever anybody in the channel commented on Geddy's technique? I don't know any other bassplayer, who plays the bass like him ... I like it veeery much 🤘 ..... and that Cleveland rocks was a song in 1979, by Ian Hunter formerly of Mott the Hoople, probably composed to honour the Cleveland audience .. .seems like they've always been one of the best crowds .. And the medley ... WOW ... I'm not sure having seen it before PS: you have to "work" on Marley's musical taste - Rush is no music for hugging and kissing, it needs your full attention 😂😂
I always love your Rush videos Nick. Rush have always said that Cleveland Ohio was their home away from home. But I was kind of bummed when they kept bypassing us on that Time Machine Tour. But then at the end of the tour they announced the show here in Cleveland and that they were filming it for a live DVD. I never missed seeing Rush, but this show was really special. They were awesome as usual.
The songs are " Finding My Way " 1st album, "Anthem" ,2nd album, " Bastille Day" , 3rd album, " Passage To Bangkok " , 4th album, " Cygnus X1 , The Voyage " fifth album, " Cygnus X1, Hemispheres" sixth album, then Spirit of Radio, 7th album.
Finding my way - Rush Anthem - Fly by Night Bastille Day - COS Passage to Bangkok-2112 Cygnus X1 - Farewell to K Cygnus - Hemispheres Then ending with the entire The Spirit of Radio ( All are done in album chronological order ending with Permanent Waves in which they do it Spirit in its entirety) When I saw them in concert many years ago. When they hit the “concert hall” part of the lyrics, the light man lit up the whole crowd with a bright white light. Half the people went crazy with applause and the other half was hiding their pot… lol
Really loved the RUSH marathon! I’ve been waiting to see y’all react to some live RUSH!! I know that’s a long time for Lex to sit, but I would have loved to see her reaction to these live versions!! (Thanks Frank)!! Especially when they switch it up and make it different! Someone’s already told you the songs from the Best Intro, which is such a creative way to get a bit of 6 different songs they wouldn’t have time to do in a regular show! Working Man was an encore… 50 year old masters pulling that off at the end of a 3 hour show is just amazing! I hope Lex can watch and enjoy these one at a time so it doesn’t hurt her too much! I don’t remember her saying she’d seen them live… but give it up for dad to have taken her to such a great live show!! WAY TO GO , DAD!! I can’t wait to see her play us this version of Working Man!! LOL! What a jam!! I hope she enjoys these as much as we did! Stay well, Nick and have Lex let us know what she thought of these performances!! Y’all take care of each other… Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
That was great! Thanks Frank! ☺️ Nice to see you reacting to some live videos. Your little dog is adorable! Too bad you are feeling sick. I have a recipe for a hot drink that might help. I Tablespoon lemon juice, 1 Tablespoon vinegar, I Tablespoon or more honey, sprinkled with Cinnamon. Hope you feel better soon. -19C here on Manitoba, Canada prairies. Nice to see Alexa. One documentary I think you would enjoy is Rush, the boys in Brazil. It is all about their tour through South America. Cheers
That "Working Man" selection was their final song (encore) on their "Time Machine" tour, a virtual 3 hour set of their greatest hits. That they ended what was an already A+ performance with this song was just incredible, one of the better concerts that I've seen in my lifetime.
Hi nickandlex - being at live Rush concert was like being with a huge extended family from ages 8 to 80 and although we'll never be there again, this is as close as we can get. Carry on enjoying the Rush rabbit hole. With love from an aging Rush fan in England xx
Rush Into from R 30 is the best ever. Alex guitar playing is awesome just like Jimmy Page. A great day for Rush fans. Thanks Nick. You Rock👍for Rush fans!
Nick you made my day by finally getting to this Rush marathon! Hope you feel better soon. An excuse to indulge in some fantastic music including Rush live performances.
I’m glad you liked it. I love those version! I’ve been waiting for the Working Man especially because I remember that you said last year that you always prefer that the bands play the album version: but you seemed to like the reggae beginning 😉. I even got Alexia for a few mins! The Intro to Spirit of the Radio were Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, A Passage to Bangkok & Cygnus Book 1 & 2.
Hi Nick, brilliant live + videos of Rush in this marathon. Really enjoyed this. Thankyou ! ... Rush .. Best Intro ... NicknLex ... Best Outro !!! with Lex ! Byee Jim X
@@raiderfan346 Hey Raider !! Absolutely ! I have a few dvd's of Rush live and it's amazing through my set up but there ? Wow ! I've been to some great live concerts but would have loved to include Rush.
It really floored Rush when they went to Rio. They had no idea how popular they were down there. They even changed the intro to the show McGyver with Tom Sawyer. You’d think they adopted the band as their own.
Terrific! In the first video, YYZ, which I've seen before, I think that was the first time I ever heard a crowd sing along to an instrumental song. Wow! 😁
That third was actually called The R30 Overture and was how they opened that tour. One song per album, Finding My Way, Anthem, Bastille Day, A Passage to Bangkok, Cygnus X-1, Hemispheres: Cygnus X-1 Book II, Spirit of Radio.
Another amazing live performance is when they performed "Spirit of Radio" live in Toronto in 2003 in front of 500,000 fans on a sunny August afternoon. They start the song with a short instrumental version of "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones which then segues into "Spirit of Radio". It's one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen.
Way off topic, but during your reaction Nick, you mentioned Iron Maiden. Earlier this evening I watched a video on youtube of Roger Daltrey from The Who performing a cover of "Rock and Roll" by Led Zep in the studio. Never did I think I'd see Roger Daltrey playing air guitar with a tennis racket, while John McEnroe plays the guitar, with Steve Harris and Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden in the band too: ruclips.net/video/OYDsPmJYqDQ/видео.html
I was debating between both live versions, but I went with the 6 Rush songs instead of 1 Rolling Stones as an intro… The worst part is that I was living in Toronto that year, but I don’t follow the news so I had no idea that mega concert was going on 🤦🏻
I recommend you react to side 1 of All The World’s A Stage. Awesome set of 5 of their older songs including two you heard parts of in the greatest intro ever; Anthem and Bastille Day.
Thanks for droppin' my name guys! I'm watching when I can but going through a lot of stuff and been busy as ever. Hope to see you guys do another live chat soon. Miss getting to pop in on you to chat. Hope you all are doing great. Thanks for the Rush fix too! Peace Y'all!
Hi from Toronto! Rush often played with their good friends from Toronto the band Max Webster. Check out the song Battlescar which features all the members of Max Webster and Rush. If you watch baseball watch for Geddy behind home plate at many Blue Jay's games to the left near the back. Always has his score pad and ball cap on. Love all your content. Cheers!
Nick, best intro ever was the start on their R30 tour gigs. Medley was made of snippets from 1st few albums. Brilliant, after this Intro followed a 3 hour show!!
I saw the "Greatest Intro Ever" at Red Rocks on their R30 tour, and it was just an epic surprise opener! The audience was going wild! It set the tone and let everyone know we were in for a special night. Trivia: the cover shot of Neil's book "Roadshow" was taken during the first minute or so of the Intro at Red Rocks - the photographer hopped up behind Neil's riser, snapped some pics real quick, and then jumped back down.
Geddy just gets cooler and cooler with age. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Iron Maiden’s “Flight 666” video of their Latin American tour. Some of the people interviewed were so emotional over getting to see Maiden, imagine being a band that has that much of an influence in people and means so much to them.
I have this DVD and was "shocked", when one guy said, he even quit his job, only to see Maiden once in his life. Hard to imagine for us cold blooded Europeans. I mean, I've done a lot to go to concerts, see special bands, but quit my job ? I don't think so ... as much as music plays a big role in my life (a day without music is a lost day), you need a job to make money and have security in life, latest when you have a family.
The Columbia show in that video was heartbreaking. That guy that caught Nikko's "sticks" and was crying and crossing himself and giving thanks to God, and his friends around them sobbing, and all were like: "Its over, now what?" Man, it makes me tear-up everytime I watch . . . THAT is what its like being a fan of Metal and Progressive Music.
Please check out "The Garden" by RUSH. It is the last song on the last album. At the time, we did not know it would be their farewell. The song is bittersweet. Realization of the end of a journey, but thankful the journey took place. It is a musical poem about the garden of life. I recommend the live version, during their "Clockwork Angels" tour.
The medley from the R30 tour is musical snippets of one song from every album up to the song “The Spirit Of Radio “ which they play in full at the end. The snippets in the medley are: Finding My Way from their first album. Anthem from Fly By Night their second album. Bastille Day from Caress Of Steel their third album A Passage To Bangkok from 2112, their fourth album Cygnus X-1 Book One from their fifth album A Farewell To Kings Cygnus X-1 Book 2 from their sixth album Hemispheres. The Spirit of Radio In it’s entirety from their seventh album Permanent Waves. It was an awesome tour. They always blew the crowd away and they always gave 150% of themselves when they were playing for us. 🤘🤘🤘
The weather in in Canada depends on what part of Canada you live in . Example Vancouver on the coast is mild where Calgary can be 25 degrees colder . Vancouver is much like Seattle rain in the winter
Hope all is well with ya. You should give their solo albums a try. I was surprised at how many people had no idea that they did solo albums. Geddy Lee - My Favorite Headache Alex Lifeson - Victor Neil Peart - Burning for Buddy (A tribute album to Buddy Rich) All great albums.
Sent them the 2 solo albums last year (REMINDER N&L!!! 😅) from Lerxst & Dirk, but tried looking for Burning for Buddy 1, but it be EXPENSIVE :P. Hopefully down the road they will check all 3 out. Or . . . I'll come up with a Marathon theme :).
Sadly since Neal Peart's passing , Rush is no more. There is a Netflix documentary about the band called "Rush beyond the lighted stage" (ya should check it out ). In this documentary Geddy Lee says and I quote...."There is no Rush , without those other two guys."
Hey Nick. I don't know what year you were talking about regarding seeing Journey/Rush/Heart, but I know I saw Heart open for Journey at a double-bill show in 2009. So if it was that year, it was likely Heart and Journey together and Rush at a separate show.
Love when you react to Rush. They were and always will be my greatest love in music. BUT - would you please find time to react to the criminally underrated Secret Machines. An American trio who play progressive rock but with a difference. Originally formed by 2 brothers , one of who tragically died very young. They produced 3 excellent albums and have just recently released a 4th with a new guitarist. If u do start with anything from their brilliant debut album Now Here is Nowhere. Thanks 🤞🏼
You should check out the tribute concert to Taylor Hawkins there were two of them one in England and one in the US they did some of the more simpler Rush songs and they had guest drummers which did an okay job but they did do Rush songs
Probably has my FAVE version of La Villa, because of the "accidental" Harmonic pinches from Alex Lifeson (before subpart "V: Monsters!") at 5:50 of the track. I thought that was such a d@mn cool addition to its sound. And the Ged "lyrics" :D. And the GORGEOUS little piece by Alex; "Broon's Bane" before Trees! Which they never played again :(.
I’m not sure even if Yes achieves the same level of live perfection as Rush did with Xanadu. The whole ESL album was perfect, Xanadu just best showed the fidelity to the studio version. And they made it look so easy!
Best Intro Ever . . . Finding My Way Anthem Bastille Day Passage to Bangkok Cygnus X-1 Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres Spirit of Radio The Marley of Terror (Part V of Fear) Lexi (The Visitor) Nick & Lexi, I hope you have watched your copy of "Rush in Rio" (from one of your Rush Familia members), and the documentary with it; "The Boys In Brazil" which will explain a lot about the band had never played Brazil before, and all the cool stuff in-between each city they play, and the INSANE sizes of the stadiums! (Rush, the FIFA of bands! :P) The Brazilians know how to treat a band, and even the Women! I guess they are more open to all types of music. The crowd "singing along" to an _Instrumental_ (like a soccer/futball chant) was one of the most coolest things I had ever seen when I bought the DVD. One day you'll have to checkout with Lexi; "La Villa Strangiato" from Rush in Rio. There is a bit of _Comedy_ with that version, which is hilarious (I think the audience is singing along to that one too!), and a _certain someone_ did an "improv version" of it in almost every city they went to :D. What can I add that other Rusheads have already talked about? They are still my fave band (along with *Kansas* because both bands resonate with me lyrically and musically) and have influenced and inspired soo many bands I admire. If anyone is interested in my personal journey with Rush: mavearworx.weebly.com/blog/witnessing-the-birth-of-progressive-metal-part-1-of-2 And something I was BLESSED to have witnessed . . . mavearworx.weebly.com/blog/finding-my-way-rush-and-the-hollywood-walk-of-fame-revisited Marley is such a sweetheart, he wants Daddy's attention :D And the visit from Lexi was icing on the cake, she's gonna LOVE watching the videos! - Thank you Franck! Thanks Nick for more Rush! You still got the early 80's Rush to experience!
Anyone else come here wanting to see the song Marathon by Rush? haha
Here is the reaction : studio.ruclips.net/user/video71phZ1t1kTM/edit

Bastille Day - COS

The Genius Triumvirate
Their music has stood the test of time.
I would highly suggest watching the R40 concert, a celebration of 40 years. To begin with the intro. medley was a stroke of genius. 🤘

Finding My Way from their first album.
Anthem from Fly By Night their second album.

A Passage To Bangkok from 2112, their fourth album
Cygnus X-1 Book One from their fifth album A Farewell To Kings
Cygnus X-1 Book 2 from their sixth album Hemispheres.
Geddy Lee - My Favorite Headache
Alex Lifeson - Victor
Neil Peart - Burning for Buddy (A tribute album to Buddy Rich)
All great albums.
Oh yeah, you're in deep now 🙂
Finding my way, anthem, bastille day, passage to bangkok, cygnus X1 (see geddy play the synth pedals and bass), hemispheres was the intro
Here in Ontario Canada we have had some 40 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures the last couple of days.
It’s about the same in Montreal
Greatest Intro Ever = more than most musicians will accomplish in a lifetime.
Ok, Nick. Tell me you can play Alex's impossible opening riff for The Spirit of Radio 😅 I'd love to see you pull that off 😉 🤘
So glad I got to see them live in Chicago for their Roll the Bones tour. Didn't like that album, but the concert was great.
Keep listening afresh. There's a Ghost of a chance you might like it more in future...
Sadly since Neal Peart's passing , Rush is no more. There is a Netflix documentary about the band called "Rush beyond the lighted stage" (ya should check it out ). In this documentary Geddy Lee says and I quote...."There is no Rush , without those other two guys."
We’ve watched it on Patreon!! :) Amazing!
RUSH has been and always will be my favorite band.
Hi Nick, I'm not sure if that was their last song ever playing together live.
strange to have Rush reactions without Lexi there too...
The crowd is singing the instrumental part listen to them!
Hey Nick. I don't know what year you were talking about regarding seeing Journey/Rush/Heart, but I know I saw Heart open for Journey at a double-bill show in 2009. So if it was that year, it was likely Heart and Journey together and Rush at a separate show.
You're right rush was separate. Journey and heart were together!
@@NicknLex 👌👌
We have 48°F here in Oregon, but now I have to deliver in Aurora, CO. Do you have snow?
No snow in the forecast! 😃 But then again… it’s Colorado and anything could happen 😂
Thanks 🤞🏼
There's a special place in Hell for people who use the word "Marathon" in a Rush sentence without actually including the song, "Marathon" 😫
You should check out the tribute concert to Taylor Hawkins there were two of them one in England and one in the US they did some of the more simpler Rush songs and they had guest drummers which did an okay job but they did do Rush songs
YYZ is the Morse code for Toronto Pearson international airport cool nod to rush hometown
To truly appreciate Rush, you'll have to react to Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left concerts,..
We have that video on the channel 🤘
@@NicknLex You've done the album version, but the live one is one of the best live performances of any band,.. period! Exit Stage Left,..
@@mvunit3 I love the Villa in Rio, when Alex takes over as lead signer 🤣
Iam from Brasil. I would like to sugest " chasing the drago" by Epica
Neil can never be replaced I don’t give a rat’s back side who they put there! Portnoy,Carey or whoever! And I hope Geddy and Alex don’t go there!
For someone with a sore throat you sure do talk a lot. 😂
Your chewing, is disconcerting

Finding My Way

Bastille Day

Cygnus X-1

Lexi (The Visitor)
Nick & Lexi, I hope you have watched your copy of "Rush in Rio" (from one of your Rush Familia members), and the documentary with it; "The Boys In Brazil" which will explain a lot about the band had never played Brazil before, and all the cool stuff in-between each city they play, and the INSANE sizes of the stadiums! (Rush, the FIFA of bands! :P)
The Brazilians know how to treat a band, and even the Women!

- Thank you Franck! Thanks Nick for more Rush! You still got the early 80's Rush to experience!
Thanks for the links Tony! 😀
