- This classic TV moment from THE ERNIE KOVACS COLLECTION includes two of Kovacs' most notable comedy sketches, Kitchen Symphony (1961) and The Nairobi Trio (1962), which were visually groundbreaking at the time of their release. The Nairobi trio was performed many times, beginning in the 1950s. Kovacs would always play the center gorilla and was accompanied by different friends, including Frank Sinatra, Jack Lemmon, Edie Adams and Jolene Brand.
A comedian, actor, writer and conceptualist, Ernie Kovacs’ visually experimental comedic style was ground-breaking. He packed a lot into his 12 short years on television, beginning in 1950 on local NBC Philadelphia affiliate for a fashion show called PICK YOUR IDEAL. From there, he went on to host programs on all four national networks: CBS, NBC, ABC and even Dumont. Kovacs worked in early morning television, predating the TODAY SHOW by more than a year.
Other shows and specials include: KOVACS ON MUSIC, IT’S TIME FOR ERNIE, ERNIE IN KOVACSLAND, KOVACS ON THE CORNER, THE ERNIE KOVACS SHOW, a 6-month stint hosting THE TONIGHT SHOW (then called TONIGHT and TONIGHT: AMERICA AFTER DARK), FESTIVAL OF MAGIC (NBC), the ABC game show TAKE A GOOD LOOK, and his last show, arguably his high water mark, the monthly half-hour specials, commonly referred to as THE ABC SPECIALS. #kovacs #experimentalart #classiccomedy #vintagecomedy

There's more entertainment value in the Nairobi Trio than in many "musical artists" of today. (I'm so old that I dimly remember seeing Ernie Kovacks on network TV.;)
Saw the chicken and immediately thought of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" video. 😃
God, I remember this. still funny today.
We’re so glad you enjoyed it!
Spike Jones, Ernie Kovacs: my kind of classy entertainment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for tuning in. Check out Superclod on Saturday!
LOVE Spike. This is Ernie at his best. No audience. Just him, a video tape camera, some items, a musical track, and an video editing booth.
Haha 😆 fantastic video
Thanks 😆 So glad you enjoyed it! How are the videos coming along?
@@clownjewels it’s going great although we’d had trouble getting the sound right so we decided to make it a silent one to make it even more classic I will let you know when it’s done thanks for your reply 😃😎👍👍
@@michaellamb2964 Some of the best work comes from having to change things up due to technical issues. Good luck! Look forward to it!
@@clownjewels thank you 😎👍👍
Between the 3 Stooges and Kovacs' crazies we boomers were well brought up. Freaks!
Totally agree 🤣
We truly live in a second dark age. There's no one, I mean no one, pushing the creative envelope like people were doing in the '50s and '60s on TV.
Have a LOT of Kovacs on the two Shout DVD releases and the old White Star DVD set. First saw the episodes on the White Star set in the 1970's on the local PBS station, narrated by Jack Lemmon.
That was my introduction to Ernie as well, except that I had heard him mentioned because my grandmother knew him quite well in NJ. He was the same age as my great aunt and they all hung out as the same.... places... together as teenagers.
One of those chimps is Jack Lemon😅
I remember seeing this as a kid live on TV. Us kids thought it was funny. My parent's hated it.
