The COLORS! so amazing. I really like the hanging lanterns too. Thanks for sharing these old but beautiful places. They are like nothing I've seen in person. -Henry
Superb vlog. Where does one get this train to Odawara ? When I come to Tokyo, I usually book in at the Gracery Hotel in Shinjuku. Thank you if you might answer that question. A
Odawara castle is not the authentic castle which the Houjou family lived but was built later and it's made of concrete, like so many Japanese castles today.(Only a few authentic castles remain today, which means castles built in 1500s and by samurai lords) Odawara castle had been attacked by many famous samurais of the day, (Uesugi, Takeda, Hideyoshi, Ieyasu, last two together) survived them all but only after the owner agreed to surrender to Hideyoshi, they agree to have it destroyed. It used to have multiple layers of moats and mounds to repel the enemy forces(Nankou-furaku) but majority of them are destroyed for obvious reason. Nobody wanted a castle having heavy defense system at the location so close to the capital(Edo, about 70 km) or anywhere(Tokugawa regime was always on look for anybody who tries otherwise).
Beautiful red bridge and sakura everywhere. Very lovely 👍🏻
Beautiful! The cherry blossoms against the backdrop of the castle is breathtaking!
