White Wine In The Sun (2017) by Tim Minchin

- Опубликовано: 24 ноя 2018
- Tim's much-loved sentimental Christmas song with a string arrangement by Iain Grandage, performed on 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' in December 2017. Every year, all proceeds from the sale of (either version of) this song during the months of November, December and January, go to an organisation which supports children and adults on the autism spectrum. This year that will be Aspect in Australia.
If you have it already, you may fancy gifting it via iTunes, along with the socks, jocks or chocs… or you can donate directly to Aspect here: www.autismspectrum.org.au/don...
You can download the 2012 studio version internationally from iTunes here: itunes.apple.com/album/white-...
and for "non-apple people", it's on Amazon (UK) here: www.amazon.co.uk/White-Wine-in... and Amazon (US) here: www.amazon.com/White-Wine-in-t....
As is the case every year, every dollar this song makes between Nov 1 and Jan 31 will go to a charity that supports children and adults on the autism spectrum. This year, that will be Aspect in Australia.
You are an absolute gem Tim. This is mine and Mum's favourite Christmas song. With my dear brother living in Berlin and building a family and the forever longing to be together. This song gently speaks to the love and yearning to be together and keep each other safe always. Thank you
God damn - as if I needed another reason to adore this song and play it for everyone
You're still one of the best humans out there. Be safe, stay well. Enjoy the sun
Tim, thank you for this beautiful some. I lost my Dad just before Christmas when I was 9 (43 years ago). Christmas has since has been happy but always tinged with sadness. I like to close my eyes and I I imagine that these are things that he might say to me if I could have just one more moment in his arms.
Best christmas song ever, Mr. Minchin
Best God damn Birthday song ever!
Jesus Christ how is your account verified
@@vaarst732 he mailed Susan the shroud of Turin. Pretty easy after that.
This feels ironic
I feel like i see a comment of yours in every video these days. Omnipresence indeed.
Didn’t you hear? Tim doesn’t even want you to visit 😂
I spent my 21st Christmas in Europe, nearly 4,500 miles from home. Christmas day I woke up to a message from my dad, back home, that said: "My sweet, blue-eyed girl, my jet-lagged daughter, now you're 21, and you find yourself 5,000 miles from home, but we're waiting for you, when you come, and drinking white wine in the sun."
Nerdfighter21 Great. Now I am crying again. I hope the miles are shorter this year. :)
You've got a great dad. DFTBA!
OMG, that is excruciatingly beautiful. I don’t cry. Not at movies, hooks or songs. But I cannot get through this song, no matter how many times I’ve heard it, without breaking up when it turns from a cute, funny, religion-skewering Minchin song into a sudden, unexpected deep dive into the deepest, sweetest, truest emotions we humans can have.
My god, he’s a genius. And your story is right up there with the beauty of this amazing song.
Thanks for posting.
That is the most beautiful and heartbreaking thing I’ve ever heard 😩
You’re father sounds like a good man.
How on earth does he sing this without his voice breaking even a little. I can't get through this without several tears.
Keep listening to this and Carry You. And getting something in my eye.
I manage until he gets to "And you, my baby girl..." and then I'm done for. Every. Fucking. Time.
he clenches his buttocks.
I really wish i could not cry so much when i heat this song because id love to play it. But I just break down bawling every time
Ah yes, time for that that annual holiday challenge: Listen to White Wine in the Sun without crying? Failed.
damn you sentimentality..... Its my go to every year.... and again it has not failed me. Tim is my spirit animal.
Every time.😭🥰😊
Literally impossible
Every single time...
Ha ha, yes. Now try to get past the reference to seeing Gran in 2020.
"Every year, all proceeds from the sale of (either version of) this song during the months of November, December and January, go to an organisation which supports children and/or adults on the autism spectrum. This year, 2018, that will be Aspect in Australia."
You're a legend, Tim! If anyone has been considering purchasing a copy of White Wine in the Sun, now is the perfect time.
It's almost time again!
It’s time now! Merry Christmas everyone! Time to open the white wine. Love you all.
Right back atcha!
This song captures the spirit of Christmas so perfectly it turns me into a tear-stained puddle every time I hear it.
This song has possibly the most gorgeous bridge I've heard in my entire life.
Thank you so much for this song. White wine in the sun helped me get through my first Christmas after my father’s passing. Thank you.
Aman Arya learn to human.
@Aman Arya Bugger off mate
Aman Arya stfu u twat u haven’t gone through something like that shush
@Aman Arya Merry Christmas to you too. 😂
Sorry for your loss. Always a poignant time of year when loved ones are no longer with us. On this realm, anyway. But I expect you and your Dad are together in spirit, hopefully drinking white wine in the sun, every Christmas. Take care.
You are a bloody poet, Tim Minchin. Don't ever stop.
Finally got to sit with my mom last year to listen to this song together, after spending 11 xmases apart.
How totally awesome with a glass of white wine I hope.
That's so touchy!
I'm glad you did it!
It makes me happy to hear that and I don't even know you
Congrats, Idk you or family but it's still good to hear... I'm glad you were able to find some common ground... Hopefully you'll have lots more positive family holiday time in the coming years.
Adam
so happy about that
Beautiful , my favourite Christmas song.
i think you forgot about mr. hankey
Hahaha and jingle Bell Rock!
Mine too ❤️
This song is the best example of how atheists see Christmas. Not as the celebration of the birthday of someone who probably never existed and was definitely not a god, but as a chance to celebrate being with your loved ones...
Well, that's exactly how I feel about Christmas as an anticapitalist primarily and agnostic by most definitions (atheist by some others).
@@elliest55
Congrats, you are an atheist & agnostic... You could theoretically also be a theist & agnostic; or atheist & Gnostic; or even theist & Gnostic... Gnosticism/agnosticism is related to if you claim knowledge or lack of knowledge of God (simply put) & theism/atheism is related to if you claim to believe in god or haven't been convinced of god. Everyone technically belong in both.
But from your description you are the 1st option... Regardless, hope you enjoyed Tim.
Adam
@@adambartlett114 I don't know why I deserve congrats (ironically or unironically) I just couldn't be bothered to elaborate, but what I meant is that those descriptions really depend on the question: if the question is "do you believe in a god that has x,y,z human-like properties like those assigned to him/her by the world's religions" then the answer is obviously "no"; if the question is "do you believe in some unknown power that keeps the universe together" then the answer is "I don't know and there's no way of knowing"
I get the not a god part, but Jesus defiantly existed as a man. There are historical records.
@@kesleta7697 There are not. Seriously. Not a single contemporary record outside the Gospels (which aren't contemporary either). Also, some of the few accounts from the first and second century are fakes added by Christians later in history (such as that of Josephus). ALL the so called historic testimonies are hearsay that would not be accepted in any court of justice. Not a single person who was alive while Jesus supposedly roamed the Earth wrote about him. Not one. There isn’t a single legal document about his existence, trial or execution, either.
An atheist holiday hymn. I love you and thanks to music like this I can go to sleep in peace.
An everybody hymn
This song means even more to me now that my dad is gone. “ I’ll be seeing my Dad” makes me realize just how much I had , and to make every day count. I can’t love this enough. 😢❤️
😭😭😭😭😭 when he starts singing about his baby girl 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
This song makes me cry and laugh every time. Beautiful.
The first time I heard this song was in Newcastle (UK) with the royal philharmonic. quite soon after my dad's death, possibly the first night away with child care of our child. It took me by surprise and broke me. It has been such an important song for us every Christmas since. I love it
One of the most gorgeous songs ever. Unfortunately being a third-generation only child with an only child daughter our immediate family has passed away so it's just my daughter and I well, and her seventeen-year-old Moody hormones haha :-) I truly do love this song gives me a glimpse of what life could have been like.
Fewer family members doesn't have to mean less family. Xo
I was lucky to grow up with lots of family, and to visit those who were far away. Now I feel I'm the one who is far away. But "I quite like the songs", which bring it all closer. Beyond that, I know there are others who truly have no one. Let's remember to think of them, to acknowledge them.
Elliott Robinson Best. Comment. Ever.
My favourite Xmas song
That was so touching at the end, it had my eyes watering.
I know . Got to me too. Tears in both eyes.
Dammit.. I nearly cried as well
Producers: How many candles do you want?
Tim: yes.
Scott's Piano hi!
@@sum7076 hiiiiiii really like Christmas
@Scott’s Piano Hiiiii forgot to respond to this.
@@sum7076 damn bruh 😔
Minchin: Yes.
I love the progression Tim's career has taken. He got a lot of his anger & comedy out in earlier songs and they're great; but I've always thought he's had a beautiful voice and he's such a talented pianist. It's nice to hear him play some more serious songs, but they still have his signature humor.
This is actually one of his older songs! He tweaked the lyrics a bit over the years, though :)
@@SarahZ Yeah, I had heard the version from a few years back & noticed the lyric changes. Maybe it's just his demeanor in his performance that made me realize how far he's come. :)
@@BL4D3RUNN3R0M3N To be fair, he always said he exaggerated that side of himself for the performance, he wasn't as "in-your-face" in real life, but also yes... he has changed and mellowed in some aspects... plus the original person named at the start of this proved themselves to be a bigot and a sexist so... yeah. That part was disappointing. :/
Mostly drunk and half asleep, with work looming in the morning, I refresh my subscriptions tab in a last desperate attempt to stave off sleep. I see that Tim has uploaded a new video, and not just that, but a song I love. I quickly question reality, then click.
Happiness: Achieved
Peace: Achieved
Work quality? Degraded
Worth it? Yes.
nobody cares
Hey, random compliment: I think that description was refreshingly-authentic, and you have a cool writing voice. Nice
@@gingrgeneral Thank you, I hope you have a pleasant day.
I've loved this song for 10 years or more, and Tim has never sung it better than here, his voice has REALLY come on a lot. Wonderful.
As an Aussie away from home this is absolutely what gets me through white Christmases away from family.
Love your work, thanks for everything you do!
I first heard this in the first week of December 2010 at the opening night of his orchestra tour in Birmingham. It was the day after my Dad’s funeral and I sat there and wept.... exactly what I needed, something to open the flood gates. Thanks Tim :).
My beautiful son gave me this song as a Christmas gift back in 2018 when I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer... He held me in his arms and we cried together... Thank you Tim for connecting me and my son..love you. Xx
First comedy artist to really make me cry. I am on the autism spectrum, thank you so much for doing this.
I'm a lifelong Christian. This is one of the best, most beautiful, most true Christmas songs I have ever heard. Heard it for the first time several years ago, and now it's one of my all-time favorites this time of year.
Welcome to the genius that is Tim Minchin.
I am too and I love Tim Minchin...and agree with some of his points.
I absolutely love this guy but why oh why have l never heard this masterpiece before? Clearly I'm poorer for never having this gem in my life but I'm am rich beyond belief and yes, this will go directly into my Spotify Xmas song list. It will then be purchased by me for those funds to go whatever organisation is nominated. By the way, yes I am now bawling my eyes out, thanks Tim!
I would love to listen to this new version, but I can't listen to this song. I've been a poor international graduate student, unable to properly visit my family for a couple of years now (budget's tight), and last year my wife and I welcomed an amazing baby girl into this world. When Tim sings about the feeling of being home among those who love you it makes me cry uncontrollably that she didn't get to experience that with her grand(and grand-grand-)parents yet. We wanted to visit this year for Christmas and then the plane tickets doubled in price overnight.
LotusMonk My family are once again fractured, too. Can you skype? I know it isn’t the same. Video and photographs are a poor substitute, but they will be there for when your daughter gets a little older. I hope you find peace on the day...it sounds like you have more than enough love to go around. :)
@@thethingonlycatscansee963 thanks for your kind reply :) yeah we skype frequently and I'm thankful for that option. I can't wait for them to finally meet.
I've lived abroad in Spain for longer than I've lived anywhere else. When I first studied abroad in 2002 we didn't have Skype or WhatsApp. Now we do, but there's still an 8-hour difference and I've got little girls who go to sleep when it's in the middle of the day where my parents live. They haven't ever met their great-grandparents, although they're luck enough to have three. I haven't seen my grandparents in half a decade myself (tickets are like EUR 1,500 per person, it's a long way with kids, etc.). But in three weeks I'll be back home for Thanksgiving when tickets dropped to EUR 500 (unheard of). I know how you feel LotusMonk; I hope you and yours get home.
It's only one Christmas season...better than getting Covid
@@Kez594 we've since moved next door to the grandparents so we enjoyed last Christmas together. This season we were super careful and made plans to take vacation days ahead of our big family Christmas visit and get tested beforehand so that we could meet safely. Then we got covid...
My favorite Christmas song of all. Thank you Tim for this most beautiful reminder of what we're really about.
I absolutely cannot listen to this song without crying. Not just a couple tears, but a proper cry. In the best way.
Sitting outside my house right now, trying to read comments but everything is blurry because I'm sobbing and the neighbours must think I've finally lost it.
Then you, my friend, are a true human being...
Another year... another session of this on repeat to myself. Except this year mum is gone. My sweet blue eyes girl is growing up. 💙 Another year, another tear. Thanks mate. Love from QLD.
I'm sorry for your loss. And yes... this one always goes on repeat for me this time of year.
This song always makes me cry.
I wasn't really a fan of Tim's. Take him or leave him sorta thing, seen him around on tele "sure, whatever" y'know.
And then my best mate showed me this song.
I've been a huge fan of his ever since :)
This song is utterly beautiful.
I can't ever listen to this without crying like a small boy. Thank you.
I am estranged from my daughter, and this song is an absolute wrecking ball, straight to my heart. I'll always want her, and keep a place for her. Especially on Christmas.
Don't know if it helped me get over my loss but it made me focus on my daughter and it made me proud to be a dad .That in turn only made me feel even more proud of the dad I had just lost and the great job I have to follow.
A deserved standing ovation.
made me cry this year cos we have a blue eyed baby girl who we wont see but i hope she knows she is loved and we will keep her safe
I love you, Tim Minchin.
Well-deserved standing ovation at the end!

Thank you for uploading this particular version again.
Standing ovation, well deserved!
Made my day.
My annual thank you for the beauty of this song. It strikes so many chords, not the least of which (unsurprisingly) drinking white wine in the sun with my late father one September morning, strange to do at 10 a.m. but a bloody lovely memory.

Hey Tim, I have always enjoyed your music. I still do and I really like this particular song of yours. Even more, I like your gifting...to Aspect. I also could not help but notice that you published it here on RUclips Nov 25, 2018 - my 69th birthday. That makes it just a bit extra-special to me. Cheers and keep up the great music.
Tough not to cry on this song. Gets one in the feels.
Now we know the silly season is full on.
Thanks Tim I just love this song.
The first time I’ve ever heard this song the best Christmas song ever.
