I wonder why Disneyland still hasn’t made this a permanent thing. Talking Mickey is doing pretty well in WDW.
i think the problem is people what to ask more but very limited because the characters maybe have a recorded audio but who knows, Disney still need to find a way to make characters more interact with the guest.
MegaSoulHero well, at least Disneyland let's their characters roam around freely unlike in Magic Kingdom where you wait in line in queues.

Maybe because what adults in Disneyland tend to molest Jack Sparrow actor and show off their chest on The splash mountain. The adults probably would say Mickey actually talks to me unlike children who know it is pretend, will believe it is real.
No. It's usually what a blogger referred to as Robo Mickey & Friends, where the mouths & overall facial expressions are controlled by a CM close-by during guest interactions. Else, it's Articulated, where the CM inside uses the cable running from the character's head, down their arm & into their index finger to make the eyes blink & uses another cable to make the mouth jaw open & close to pre-recorded lines. The actual "Live" function tested in 2010 has been all but essentially eliminated, meaning that, when they do talk, it is only using lines that are pre-recorded ahead of time, so the actual interaction is bit stunted & less immersive than it ought to be. Most likely to refrain from saying things these characters shouldn't. Plus, it's now essentially impossible to shake hands because doing so might accidentally touch the mechanism controlling the eye or mouth movement, thereby breaking the illusion of these characters being alive, because they are supposed to be alive. After all, as Jimmy MacDonald (2nd Mickey) told Wayne Allwine (3rd Mickey) years ago & is continued by Bret Iwan and his understudy as current Mickey voice-over artist, "Remember, you're just filling in for the boss", which refers to Mickey essentially being Uncle Walt's alter-ego, with Minnie as his leading lady to represent the founder's wife Lillian Disney, with the returned Oswald the Lucky Rabbit & his feline girlfriend Ortensia being Mickey's older brother (confirmed via playthroughs of Epic Mickey & Epic Mickey 2), thereby making them the equivalent of Roy O. Disney (Walt's older brother) & his wife Edna Disney. This is reaffirmed through the long marriage Wayne Allwine had with Russi Taylor until his death in 2009, so that from the 1980's all the way to 2009, the voice actors for Mickey & Mickey were married for real & according to an interview with Uncle Walt himself that was taken from the September 30, 1933 issue of Film Pictorial magazine, “In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. A lot of people have written to him asking this question because sometimes he appears to be married to her in his films & other times still courting her. What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady. If the story calls for a romantic courtship, then Minnie is the girl; But when the story requires a married couple, then they appear as man & wife. In the studio, we have decided that they are married already.”

You know it's funny that you just posted this because, yesterday, I was reading the history of the Mickey and Minnie costumes at the Disney Parks, and when it got to talking about the meet-and-greet talking Mickey, it mentioned a rumor that Disney was in the works of making a meet-and-greet talking Minnie for Disneyland. Hopefully if this works out well, we'll be able to see more talking characters for meet-and-greets in the near future. I would love to see one with Goofy.

@@Angie2343They'd have to find someone similar to Dana Hill for Max though, since she's kind of dead already & it would be weird to have older Max's voice (Jason Marsden from the 2 _Goofy Movie_ spin-off films & _House of Mouse_ ) come out of young Max's theme park character based off of _Goof Troop_ , you know.

I went to DisneyLand With my family for the first time on Saturday on February 10 2024 this year and met Mickey Mouse and Pete and Pluto
😁This just gets better and BETTER!!! But this kind of meet and greet is still a WIP.🤔 The technology is still not advanced enough (to my knowledge) to make a set of voice modulators that can replicate the character voices.

It's not.When I met the mickey at Disney world, The little girl infront of me was wearing a Minnie mouse dress and he complimented it and said that it reminded him of a certain someone.

The actual "Live" function of 'Talking' characters has been limited, so as to avoid guests & the characters speaking about taboo subjects they shouldn't bring up (thus ruining the idealistic, wholesomeness of the Disney image) and to avoid having to bring the voice actors in all the time to record dialog when they're very busy on multiple projects for multiple companies (for example, imagine Jim Cummings being brought in to voice for every character he's ever done for Disney; He'd likely enjoy it at first, then probably tire of it, so Disney might have to snag Brian Hull as an understudy, given his impressions of various characters in general]), so the mechanisms are either controlled remotely by a character assistant via wireless remote (similar to the Muppet's "waldo" device) so the CM inside can interact with guests on a more personal level or else, it's controlled internally by the CM inside using the controls wired from their arms to the character's eyes, mouth & fingers (which means shaking hands or even perhaps hugging may be a thing of the past, as doing either might trip the eye or mouth controls & accidentally break them, which would make the situation far worse due to the big heads of the characters having minimal visibility by default & the few places CMs can see out of are in correlation with the controls inside the character's head, so if they're ever broken, any interaction is reduced or outright eliminated entirely until they can be repaired).
I'm a 42 yr old father of 2. If Mickey actually said hi and held a conversation with me, I'd probably break out in tears...

It would be better if the voices of the characters worked in a booth where they could talk into a microphone and respond more naturally to the people who meet the characters. I'm assuming that they have programmed dialogue that doesn't change. If nobody had roared after Mickey asked them to, he would have just gone on with the dialogue as if they did.

Bugs Bunny is typing a report about his life then he heard a knock on the door he thought it was Donald Duck trying to sell something Bugs doesn’t need. Then Bugs Bunny saw Goofy as a salesman giving something Bugs Bunny needs so then everything worked out very well. So that’s why Salesman Goofy and Bugs Bunny should be Friends
