I'm super late to the party but, oh man, these might be the clearest tutorials I've ever seen with regards to anything. These are incredible. Thank you, thank you!
Well yes, in theory you can. You can use a de-esser to sidechain-compress a small frequency band, and if that would be placed after the filter because it's resonance is set too high that could work. You could also automate the resonance to be lower when the filter sweeps to the higher frequencies. That way you can increase the resonance on the lower frequencies, and decrease it on the higher frequencies.
your tutorials are fantastic! one of the best channels on audio engineering on youtube. instant sub. I would like to donate, but your webpage is down. anyway, keep up the great work!
Hi, that is done with 'automation'. I will be covering how to use automation in software mixers in the currently running season in a few weeks. Stay tuned for that ;)
Thanks for the tutorial but I got a bit confused because I think that you might have the understanding of the HP and LP filters backward. I had the same issue while taking a quiz until I actually thought a bit more about it. The Low-Pass Filter cuts out the low end and only leaves the highs available whereas the High Pass Filter cuts out the highs and only leaves the low end. The cutoff was already engaged when you switched to the High Pass and the cutoff is supposed to be the threshold for the sounds passing through. I'm currently taking Audio Engineering, so I was looking for more understanding of this particular thing which I wasn't quite clear on just yet. This is what led me to your video. - Shalom to you and your family
Is this the same teacher who does Premiere Pro tutorials? Really sounds like him. Well done anyhow. 7 years later I learned more here than the fancy dudes on nasa plugins.
One request, can you please publish some posters (in pdf) which I can take print outs and hang them around my work stations? I feel your animation screenshots will do :-) I tried taking screen shots from the video but the picture quality are not good enough for A4 size prints.
Are there any free or cheap alternatives to Tonic Filter and MOOG filter that can be used in a DAW other than Cubase? I use Reaper. I have other filter plugins installed but they all have different settings.
eq is the same thing but more accurate i think. filter is good for automation sound i believe, when for example you slowly cutoff high frequencies before the breakdown.
+0815Snickersboy +TIMOSHINA Actually, You filter as complementary EQ, usually before EQing or as part of the same process. Some times when mixing you will find that there are certain instruments or tracks where you can dispose of entire frequency ranges. For example, when mixing we use lo-cut (hi-pass) filters in lots of tracks like vocals or even some guitars, because these instruments usually don't produce any significant useful frequency material below 80Hz, so we simply filter all of that out, as a way of "cleaning" the recording, and also helping us fit instruments better with each-other within the audio spectrum. The difference between a filter and an EQ is that a filter doesn't have a gain knob, and hence will get rid of everything below or above (or in between) a specific frequency, where EQ will have a gain control for you to decide how much you want to carve out or sum in, and it's usually not as agressive. Yes, filters are also widely used as effects too, especially in electronic music.
Eq's are a type of filter. but i'd assume you managed to figure this out by now. Just like a compressor is a Dynamic processes. and a gate / limiter / de-esser all are "dynamic" modifiers Eq's are filters.
so far I have done all my 'filter' sort of effects with eq automations... but it seems its pretty cool to try and download some sort of filter plugin.. and I have no idea how to do these lfo stuff still... it seems so complicated to me.. but I really like the sounds that came out of that lil demo thing with the drums... makes me think of some sort of dubstep.. I waaaant to learn! :D !

Great tutorials, really couldn't get much clearer, especially with the "practical sessions".
This is by far the most Informative vid I have seen
Almost 8 years later, still useful. Thanks!
Great video! One of the most interesting and clear explanations of filters I’ve ever seen! And great channel too! 👍🏻
the LFO is a really COOL effect, but your tutorial was much more awesome.nice work! Thanks!
Love to hear that! Hope you will learn a lot!
Cheers
Thanks a lot! Be sure to check out some of the very cool videos I have planned very soon. Cheers
Love to hear that! New stuff coming up soon! Cheers
Amazing! You are a brilliant teacher and a great help!
Hi Hansba, I will be covering automation in this season. Stay tuned for that ;)
Thanks a bunch! More on the way! :)

excellent tutorial I have ever watched on this subject.... Thanks a tonne... bro!
Simply amazing, thank you so much for bringing the concepts to us in such a simple way :-) keep up the good work and waiting for more to come.
love the way you talk man, awesome tutorials
Thanks for doing this tutorial. What a cool animation... It's awesome...
Your tutorials is awesome and interest. Really helpful, keep up the good work man!
You are the man. You make this stuff so understandable and easy to learn. Thank you for that!

priceless tutorials man, just amazing
I guess it is kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Draven Tate I watch on flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Adrian Carl yea, have been using flixzone for since april myself =)
@Adrian Carl thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it !!
@Draven Tate No problem :)
great tutorials man. well said and easily heard. you have a new subscriber. keep up the good work!
Illustrated extremely well, would be great if you can show a couple more examples of how it can be applied in actual projects.
How did I miss this channel until now?
Very informative tutorial 👍
Very nice tutorial man, lookin forward 2 the next episode!

Super appreciating this stuff, well done!!
very nice , very helpful
I love how it is also visually well-explained

i really love these videos i get so frustrated trying to understand all this stuff
Great bro very good explanation n video editing keep it up keep growing god bless u love from india
Much more easier then some books. I am interesting in psytrance and progressive house. it could be good idea to watch a video in genres. Thanks.
psytrance!!!
Haha Yes I am.. I am actually working on a lot of new stuff too ;)
Very informative, love the video!!
this is extra helpful, thank you man
Nice work!
Yess!!! You're alive! Thank you!
great stuff as always man.
good cure for insomnia.....................
All amazing
Love your videos!! :)
dude, you're actually really good at explaining all this stuff. I love you man! (no homo) : )
Would it be possible to achieve this using the Reason Subtractor, Thor or Malstrom LFOs?
One request, can you please publish some posters (in pdf) which I can take print outs and hang them around my work stations? I feel your animation screenshots will do :-) I tried taking screen shots from the video but the picture quality are not good enough for A4 size prints.
this one is really really good :)
Dude. A lowpass filter with a 24db cut doesn't cut off the low frequencies, like you showed in the animation
Perfect .

Fidget spinner spotted at 0:05. Steinberg predicted the future.
amazing
i dont know how to thank you so i'have followed added and subed
That LFO meter was liting up
Your tutorials are fucking amazing, thank you so much!
how have you created this "animated" effect for the rate on 15:08 ?
is this how dubstep was made?
speechless.. wher have i been :D
I like your voice O.o
Whats the Point of a Filter Plugin ? Cant i simply use eq?

Lopez filter
+Fernando Núñez Izu Exactly...Using a Lopez filter with a lot of resonance will give a big bottom...
he sounds like the guy from the skate 2 game
pls use pro tools some videos
