Improving productivity through algorithms and AI is not nonsense, it is a normal solution (Soviet programmers, having weak hardware, made devices and equipment capable of competing with US technology through algorithms). In American electronics, all problems have always been solved by increasing power. Now the hardware limit has been reached, so stupid American programmers are starting to master algorithms (with tears in their eyes)
If you have a 4080, obviously you may as well just hold on to it. If you are still on a 3080 then this is a great upgrade.... except you cant actually buy it so lol

I had a 4080 non super, Newegg offered me $800 on trade in. So im upgrading for like $350. I wanted a 5090 but I feel it will be a while. I can upgrade later if they become available at msrp again. Ill take the upgrade and mfg, i can overclock the card another 300 to 400mhz and itll be around a 15 - 20 percent upgrade in most applications. I game in 4k so every bit helps.

You mean without the x4 frame generation since the other stuff DLLS 4 brings also works on the previous generations. That is the positive side, they made the older cards better with DLLS 4 release :P

Rtx 5090 is for 4k gaming. Rtx 5080 is for 1440p. I don't want discredit rtx 5080 for not being able perform better than rtx 4090 consider that was the trend. While being half of rtx 5090 price/spec. Rtx 5080 perform slightly better, less watt as well. Its definitely upgrade from gtx 1080, but lets be honest. Gtx 1080/1080ti was probably the biggest gap from previous gen. Unfortunately, we don't see those kind of performance uplift. Nvdia needs to stop catering to cooperate with their AI. Remind themselves, they were making cards for gamers.
These cards might be worth it more once they dropped in price this summer. Due to low generational uplift and amd cards that will hopefully reduce the price of 5070ti /5070.
The 5080 is the 5070. There is no actual 5080. So really the price of Nvidia cards has skyrocketed but it’s hidden behind screwing with the tier names on the cards. This is what happens with no competition.
Thing is that this generate is all about the new frame gen and DLSS changed. the 6000 series will be an improvement on that. It is like DLSS and Raytracing when they came out, they basically sucked and were terrible against plain raster performance. It will take another two generations to get quality out of these technologies. If you are the type of person who get a new card every generation then it sucks for you. For those who skip one or two generations, then this isn't too bad. For the people with cards from three or more generations ago, then this is really worth the upgrade.

I managed to get a 5080 after the website crashed in my country. As soon as I bought it, the rest were sold out. Although I'm upgrading from a 2080ti
