I knew a German woman in Dusseldorf back in the 1980s who told me that she was a little girl back then when the Americans arrived. They lined everybody up in a row and she thought they were going to kill them all. She was terrified. But they only wanted to know their names and addresses then they were all sent sent home to clean up the rubble in the streets and get on with their lives....others also told me anecdotes of life as a German kid during the war. Made me think and gave me a more perspective on what happened and what is still happening in place like Ukraine. Damn the warmongers......

When my brother was in the British Army mid to late 70s, he got friends with a German boy in the German Army. The boy spoke perfect English, his parents broken English and his Grandfather had no English. His Grandfather had retired a few years before. He was 66 at the time. He was 13 in 1923. In November of that year in Hamburg he went to the bakery with a wheelbarrow full of money to buy bread. Whilst he was in the bakery buying loaf, a thief caught sight of the wheelbarroŵ full of money. But he had dumped the money and stole the wheelbarrow. This was during Hyyperinflation when there were 2 trillion Deutchmarks to the pound.

They were probably relieved that they were not occupied by the Russians.

Taking a wild guess, but I believe the first part of the video shows M-10 tank destroyers from the 747th tank battalion (they were short of Sherman tanks) and troops from either the 29th or 83rd Infantry Divisions marching through Munchengladbach. You also get a brief glimpse of an M-18 Hellcat tank destroyer with a 76 mm gun with a muzzle brake, probably from the 643rd Tank Destroyer battalion.

Hmmm I wonder how many deserted , claiming to never have been in the German military ? Just slipped on civilian clothes . Did the allies try to weed them out ?

The German civilians nor the military don't look like they were deprived of much food
