Man this is great. Brings back memories. I was an Jr.in high school. East High. Graduated in 78. Rick Dee's was a must every morning before school and on the way to school.
Yessuh, Mistuh Dees. Very possibly I listened to this live on that date, as a young punk 5th grader in West TN. To this day I occasionally answer "yes" in the style of "The Boss"...loved to get ready for school with this show playing in the background. Good times.
I think it was a co-worker from Memphis who told me Dees had a "cart" deck with nothing but sound effects - at least three machines, I'd guess. In the modern computer age, he'd probably have many more lined up.
Janet O'Connor: When Rick Dees originally played "Disco Duck" on the radio, he worked as a disc jockey at Memphis radio station WMPS; they fired him for playing "Disco Duck" on his radio show and rival radio station WHBQ scooped him up.
Rick Dees was the coolest DJ he wood Challenge the wrestler Jerry Lawler to a radio match and the mayor of Memphis to a row boat race across the Mississippi River he heard about Elvis giving a DJ a new Mercedes out west when he heard his car broke down so he announced on the radio Elvis if you are listening my car is running awful rough this morning
I was 21 years old and times were great in Memphis.
That shot is one of the many PR photos I took of Dees for Freetone Records back when the Disco Duck was just coming out.
Listened to Rick Dees every morning as my dad drove me to school.

Interesting how many of these same sounds effects he used at KIIS in LA.

He never played it, just talked about it...Fired him over the fact he could not keep his mouth shut.

Yayyyyy
Memphis was indeed covered with sin in 1977 and it was a fun place to live. I indulged in debauchery of all kinds.

KIIS FM 102.7 Los Angeles
Met him as a teenager. He bettered himself. Was happy for him.
Yes when Rick Dees Peaked in the 1980's and 1990's until Seacrest took over his LA Spot.
"Chuck Wagon" sounds almost like that preacher who used to troll Coast to Coast AM, J.C. Webster the Third.
