    About David Bowie:
    David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie at 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

    The version of her singing this song with David on the Reality Live album gives me chills. I play her version whenever I need inspiration. Her voice is awesome and knowing she is playing bass at the same time is mind blowing. I saw them do this live in Minneapolis and it was just as magical. Gail Ann Dorsey is a treasure!

      Gave me chills too when I saw sing it live in Seattle, my memory is that this was even better than the live album (which is amazing)

      2degucitas And was more then willing to let them be involved in the creation of the music. There’s a few videos of Earl Slick taking about working with David. How he never felt like a hired gun. But was there because he played the style David was looking for.

      There's a great video detailing how "Heroes" was written and recorded. A real collaboration.

    Gail did brilliantly, David was right to have confidence in her. No disrespect to Annie Lennox or the great Freddie Mercury himself, but I prefer listening to Gail and David sing this song. Love this series, I love listening to musicians talking about David and his work, even though I'm not a musician myself it helps me understand it a little better.

    David knew that she could do it, wow. I was surprised at how much feeling she put into it. The result is absolutely great. Freddy (the original) or Gail Ann? - I think I like her voice more with this song. Sorry, Freddy.

      Scary Stardust Of course it would. Unfortunately it was not to be. The Annie Lennox version is amazing. This does sound promising, I have not heard it.
      I have always wondered what could have been. Roger Taylor has said he really thought that Under Pressure was going to lead to a full album with Bowie and Queen.

    • @FoxJof
      @FoxJof 5 лет назад +6

      I guess they just asked her about the song and edit it to make us think it was rehearsed for that particular show.

  • @ThinWhiteAxe
    @ThinWhiteAxe 5 лет назад +5

    Hahaha yeah that one would be hard to play and sing. Bass usually is very difficult to play whilst singing. I'm not sure if David just had a non-musician's naivety or immense confidence in Gail... but whatever it was, it worked.

    • @ThinWhiteAxe
      @ThinWhiteAxe 4 года назад

      @@grrrlrock I guess by "non-musician" I meant that he wasn't the sort of person who would play anything more complicated than rhythm guitar while singing, and rarely even then. That having been said, it's likely he knew what he was getting Gail into and trusted her to make it work.
