My favourite type of episode. A simple concept that has so many interpretations.
Wait wtf 👁️👄👁️ ur 2days early
@@Unitykn1ght patreon get the episode early
@@Unitykn1ght I have a space bridge that allows me to travel in time. For some reason, I've chosen to visit 2021.
@@HelloMisterJAMWAH"That's not how time travel works!"

Agreed

@@Ecl1ps0_ ah yes, *speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed*
Good recommendation. It was a fun one.

I love how the Marvel comic Space Bridge is literally a giant bridge
*"The script says we need a space bridge, what should we draw?"*
"How about a regular bridge?"
*"Brilliant, draw that!"*
Asgard inspired no doubt.
"Space bridge" get it?
ikr
I found it hilarious about an actual bridge between two planets. Just imagine walking or driving from planet to planet
Space Bridges, making “are we there yet?” moot for nearly 40 years.
I personally liked how the Unicron Trilogy cartoons treated Space Bridges as energy bridges linked through portals, making Space Bridges literally bridges.
Not as literal as the Marvel Comics take on the Space bridge, which took the form of a robotic suspension bridge.
@@seant1326 True, But I still count bridges made of energy as bridges.
Probably the best example of individuals with the power to open portals is IDW's Megatron. He basically had an entire network of space bridges nestled amongst his insides, till the point of his spark being totally unreachable.
Fascinating
Most transformers probably have similar designs considering they can change size, mass, and even move parts of their bodies through each other while transforming.
You should've mentioned Aligned Soundwave's tendency to use groundbridges in combat.
Me watching every video "Chris can't teach me anything new" me by the end of the video "Damn never knew that" great video as always chris
Sometimes I feel the same way. It's like, "Knew it... knew it... knew it... well, $h!t-- that's a new one on me." 😀
Me to, but the other way, I didn’t know that, o that I didn’t know, what I didn’t know that, o well that I knew.
"Pierce the space-time continuum" well when you put it like that, its easily the most badass thing ever
All most all Transformer series: the space bridge is advanced technology that can send the user to the other side of the galaxy
Marvel comics: literary a normal ass bridge
It's not a normal bridge, it just looks like one. It is still a portal since they can't just build a giant bridge connecting planets that are light years apart.
@@SirBroccolingtonIII not to mention the guy who built the bridge was forced to become apart of it as well
It would make sense that it would need to look like that. We humans have an interest in things that look out of place.
@@snozzearwager6660 Yeah.
And the first version did blow up a test subject, and the guy sent to pick up said subject's remains.
I loved that storyline from the comics where Megatron blew himself up while on a space bridge and ended up in a scrapyard on Cybertron.
And then later he and Ratchet got fused together in an explosion inside one of the smaller portals. Marvel Megs just did not have good luck with portal technology.
I know you mentioned it during your Shattered Glass Basics episode, but I thought it'd be particularly relevant to mention what Space Bridges are called in those reverse polarity universes- Stellar Spanners. Especially relevant since it appears they were named after the original character Spanner who developed space bridge technology in the Marvel comics.
Right, I almost forgot about that.
oh my... I only just realised that it's spanner as in something that spans like a bridge, rather than spanner as in a tool for turning nuts and bolts...
Now that the GoBots have been rolled into the Transformers mythos, we can also include the Astro-Beam! Although the main cast rocketed their way to Earth, guest characters would use an Astro-Beam to temporarily teleport to Earth. When the Astro-Beam wore off sometime later, such characters would find themselves rematerialising back home again!
TFP, and rescue bots’ Space bridges are just straight up Stargates. Change my mind
What about cyberverse?
Yes
No, I don't think I will
And aramda/energon?
That's my prefered version of the space bridges. Though being able to send between two like a Stargate, what we saw in the Cyberverse clips, and to anywhere like Aligned is what I'd like to see.
The Marvel version having the creator of the tech being forced to have himself built into it is honestly horrifying. That comic did a lot of Body Horror like that, looking back on it...
Ratchet and Megatron fusion be like
And people say IDW was weird
Yeh - how about that smelting pool!
Although I'm never disappointed by each entry into Transformers lore this is probably one of the best.
Space Bridges, Transformation, Flight, Combination. Geez the G1 Cartoon certainly portrayed the Autobots as a bunch of bozos while showing the Decepticons as exceptionally inventive.
Yet the Decepticons were always losing. Ironic.
Decepticons had the logistical advantage of controlling Cybertron and didn't spare resources nor energon as the Autobots did, the situation reversed after the movie events when Autobots got the tactical advantage.
@@derekbates4316 The Decepticons had the advantages before the action moved to Earth, where their no restrain with resources policy turned against them.
I remember as a kid being hyped when the autobots would go through a ground bridge and immediately start fighting. Guess I gotta attribute a lot of my thrills to the premise of the ground/space bridge
I literally watched that one episode of cyberverse when the ark got sucked into unspace and then I see this
I find it hilarious that everywhere else, the space bridge is a portal, while the Marvel comic (And, in turn, the Stellar Spanners from Shattered Glass) is a literal bridge that span across different worlds.
The Marvel space bridge is still a portal, it's just that the entry/exit points take the form of a giant bridge.
I wonder how space-bridges will be interpreted in the future? Well, I guess we'll cross that "bridge" when we get to it. Hehe. ^_^ Okay, I'll go sit in the corner now...
Now THAT'S a pun worthy of ending a Basics video with! 😉
@@ChrisMcFeely Haha, cheers then. :)
@@ChrisMcFeelyLove the video, but when speaking of the various forms of travel you seem to have forgotten about the Super Luminous Space Drive that Unicorn used with Megatron's upgraded body in Transformers Prime, Predacons Rising
I like the exploration of the different concepts of the transformers universe
“Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space.”
Douglas Adams
Rescue Bots was my intro to Transformers, and it’s really good
My favorite has got to be the transformers prime version, it just seems like such a simple straight to the point take on the spacebridge/groundbridge.
Can't wait till aperture science begins to fund and make these.
The cake is a lie.
We should probably first work on ground bridging before even thinking about space bridging. We can't even travel on the same planet, then I doubt we're ready to travel the universe.
Your videos are always a good reason to stay up until 2 am
I really liked to G1 cartoon version. One day I need to make a display of one for my collection. Amazing that a 3rd party company hasn't done that yet.
Space Bridge technology is bit 2 side coin; one could transport resources or refugees or travel between A point to B point while one could transport garrisons, cruiser or bomb.
i liked RiD ( 2001/car-bots) space bridge. an artificial pocket dimension respelling a roadway.
I feel so young in this comment section 😭 as a zoomer who got into transformers bc Netflix had the entire G1 series (before Netflix was cool) I was hooked. I truly got into the fan base because of the movies and the animated series. Transformers prime was amazing and I grew up with the Xbox games and reply play them so often 😓 I've watched the Rescue bots, RID (2014) and Siege but i still feel like i don't understand the whole fan base without watching any of the older series. So....
Even though I never got into Armada, these videos have made so SO INVESTED! Im going to binge beast wars then Armada and try to get into all the other series. I never even realize that their was comics too! Wow. And here I thought I was pro 😂 time to binge as I just binged this entire RUclips channel.
From what I understand, in the Aligned Continuity, it was specifically Quintus Prime who created the space bridge technology, and his creations, the Quintessons, (after turning on him) used the tech for their own nefarious ends.
Absolutely loved the video Chris! I've been a huge Transformers fan ever since I was a kid, and your channel never ceases to teach me new things about my favorite franchise. Keep up the awesome work!
Wow, so much since we saw the show in the 80´s!
In Gaogaigar it's called an ES window or escape window
Thanks for all the work you put into this channel. My 5 year old son LOVES transformers and asks everyday if he can watch “The Basics”.
I remember finding it weird that the comics literally had a bridge
The proverbial question: "When will space bridge technology finally become reality in real life?"
Yeah. A real life space bridge would eliminate the need for taxis, buses, and airplanes.
@@garthdavis4320 That will mean more time for sleeping, relaxing, and most importantly Transformers. :D
@@garthdavis4320 Ground bridges would be more practical for those purposes. Space bridges are meant to make traversing light years of space between solar systems easier and way, way faster.
Not without a major breakthrough in physics. I suspect that space bridges in the real world would use wormholes.
As long as the space bridges isn't messed up like warhammer 40k warp drive, I'm happy.
I was waiting on how Soundwave is able to create his own bridges :')
I imagine he has remote control of the Nemesis' groundbridge tech maybe?
Starscream found a portable ground bridge. Maybe Soundwave had one built into himself? After all, Ratchet did say that Soundwave was no ordinary Cybetronian, inside or out.
Been watching/listening since your first year. Just want to say I really enjoy your videos and how you present the characters and concepts in each. Thank you for making them.
The concept of Ground Bridge is something that would work more in the Autobots favor when confronting Decepticons. Transformers: Prime had the best usage of it. It allowed the Autobots to reach destinations under Decepticon attack far more quickly than just simply driving there.
Chris McFeely you did an amazing job with this.
Fantastic work as always. I swear, I rewatch all of your content at least twice a year, and some episodes multiple times in a month. ^^ Just love your Basics.
I hope one day you will do a Basics on Deathsaurus and Brainstorm. I am also looking greatly forward to that Megatron Basics you promised us for this year.
I waited so damn long for this episode. I REALLY love space and ground bridges.
I never thought a video about Space Bridges would be so interesting.
At least it can’t be taken offline by a Cosmic Powered Starscream.
Give him time...
You underestimate his power...
@@felps_4500 Galvatron: Don’t try it.
Wanna bet?
I love how Starscream killed or disabled so many characters in that one issue that it's a running gag on these videos.
One thing I love about the transformers stories, and other franchises of it's genre, is the wide array of factions and sub groups within and outside cybertron. Whether they are colonized planets or long lost explorers, the fact that there are outside factions both big and small that work outside the two main factions is what makes transformers a treasure trove of untapped expansive potential. One faction in particular I would love to see the basics on is the faction introduced in transformers the movie, with recurring guest star Weird al yankovic, the bots that dare to be stupid; the Junkions.
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this since you said you’d do it back in the very first episode almost 4 years ago! Yes!
What about Soundwave possessing his own personal bridge in some continuities.
Had been looking forward to this for a while great job Chris!
Hey, Chris Mcfeely Could you try a basics episode on Optimus Prime super modes?
Just asking.
Just got here can't wait to watch!
I thought you forgot about vector prime haha GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT SPACE BRIDGES AND WARP TECHNOLOGIES
Chris,
This weekend, I was just thinking it would be cool to see a video on Space Bridges. Right on cue, you delivered.
This was an excellent video. I never knew how much I did NOT know about the cool tech of Space Bridges.
I always loved the fact that Animated Swindle had a private Space Bridge portal hidden in his chest that he could used to reach his inventory. It also led to a rather comedic use of it by Optimus.
Great video again Chris thanks
I like the idea of space bridges and their various spinoff tech. It has all the advantages of a teleporter without the messy concerns of whether or not you're still you or a souless clone containing your memories.
My favorite day of the week. Tf basics day
Like the story of space bridges !!!👍👍
Great episode! Really good editing and nice selection of clips and art from across the franchise.
One concept I'd like to see explored in the future would be Power Ups and Super Modes of the Transformers, maybe even adding Link Ups/Power Links into the mix, or as it's own individual concept video!
Once again a great episode one a fascinating topic.
Great episode! I always forget new episodes don't have to be about characters or series, but literally anything. How about an episode about Furmanisms?
This video has convinced me for my fanfic to use Spanner as the original inventor of Space Bridges in Cybertron's ancient past.
Thanks for the info.
As awesome as it is for humans to make "warpgates" I prefer the name "stargates" based off of the movie and show. I love both franchises and loved how similar they were in concept.
"If it's a SPACE bridge, doesn't that mean..."
*Points up*
"The term 'space' refers to its TRAVEL RANGE, not its physical location!"
I remember that. Miko was such a troublemaker but you can't help but love her.
Interesting to learn about space bridge technology throughout the Transformers franchise. Could you please do a "The Basics" on the Decepticon Conehead Seekers, Ramjet, Dirge, and Thrust?
Ah yes, A Cybertronian Uber
Looking forward to the Basics in Space Fridges, which is more than meats the pie for Transformers.
Ah it's Saturday morning again. I love the Basics.
Hey Chris, you ever think about doing a video on Unspace/the void? Because that sounds really interesting, I'd love to see that.
I guess you could say that marvel’s interpretation was...a bridge too far!
The closing level of Fall of Cybertron involved both the Autobots Ark and the Decepticons Dreadnaught flying towards an unstable wormhole (possibly a space bridge).
The Dinobots trashing everything Shockwave built back on the planet would've been the main cause of the instability
I’m surprised that the prime space/ground bridge glitch that leads to the shadow zone wasn’t mentioned
The basics on cybertron would be a cool video
The depiction of modern-day space bridges capable of letting a ship pass through (like in Animated) seem to incorporate elements of "warp gates" from G1 season 3 which themselves seem based off of "Star Gates" (from 1978's Buck Rogers in the 25th Century). The space bridges in use since Transformers: Prime also kinda resemble (in appearance) the Stargates from Stargate (the Movie) and Stargate: SG1.
From what I could figure from Beast Wars, the Transwarp used wasn't actually intentionally used (because that would be broken), and was something foretold on the Golden Disk to be accessible at a certain point in time.
But I just looked it up, and no, it's a technology that seems to be exclusively under the control of Maximal High Command.
While not seen in the original cartoon it is very likely that transformers able to do interstelar travel like Astrotrain or Omega Supreme also had their own built in space bridge technology.
The gound bridges are the mcguffin needed to keep the car type transformers as cars while still able to travel to any part of the world quickly.
in Transformers Prime the Autobots had the Ground bridge while the Decepticons had one space bridge in orbit behind the moon. They where able to get their ground bridge to go to cybertron once but is was difficult. some of the "mishaps" just the result of two ground bridges opening up across from each other.
Another great episode.
Star Gate before Star Gate.
I'm curious about one thing. Perhaps you could cover the history of Kaon and/or Iacon? Since both cities seem to be of importance.
Ah Space bridges, one of the best and most interesting forms of cybertronian technology, in my opinion.
On the Formspring Transformers RP, Animated Straxus tried to hop through a Groundbridge into the TFP Autobot base.
He was too big and got stuck in the Groundbridge portal like Winnie the Pooh.
Derrick J. Wyatt responded “cool, hang these Christmas lights on him!”
I really want the basics episode on the rescue bots.
I love the Space Bridge💝💛💞❣️🧡🧡💜💙💙😍😍🥰💘💕🤎💞
Can we get a Basics vid on other Cosmic Beings in Transformers (Like Tornedron, Hytherion, D-Void, The Dark Matrix, etc)
I remember seeing somewhere that spacebridge technology was eventually miniaturized to the point that spacecraft could generate their own portals.
Wow space Bridges are so awesome and kind like portals
Suggestion for basics: Nemesis (the ship)
Gotta love a space bridge; it's the fastest way to travel to Egypt.
In tfp universe, the shadow realm is where you have to ground bridges near each other and cross the streams. So what happened when the war was happening on Cybertron, millions where most likely used at once.
I character I would like to see him do is beast wars Dinobot you know before war for cyber Tron kingdom comes out after all he becomes the first beast wars character to show up with his beast mode on a TV show in eight years or so Optimus primal Did not transform in power of the primes
Excellent use of Space Bridges in Earth Wars the game.
Wow up late enough to a catch a basics episode before 1k views
If I were to do my own series I would have Space Bridge be the "gift" to future transformers from Vector Prime with Transwarp technology being reverse engineered from ancient space bridges. I would also have Skywarp be a "descendent" of Vector Prime to explain how he can teleport.
The basics on Strika video please I'll keep asking til I see it
Could you do a Basics for the following: (don't worry, I learned my lesson, I won't post this on every video)
The War- What sparked this galactic civil war.
Cybertron- The world of the transformers
The Colonies- A transformers home away from home
Aww you didnt include early IDW's Orbital Bounce tech.
