hip hop is dead and untitled are great. I think they are two concept albums which ultimately added significantly to his catalogue. He now has the true political albums in untitled and distant relatives and the album (hip hop is dead) that’s regularly referenced by other rappers including hopsin and J-cole and challenged the standard of MCing and hip hop. He did it for the culture. Life is good is arguably top 3 for him it’s not overeating I think it was the blueprint for mature age rap and content ages soo well Still will be dope 10 years from now.

    • @Israel-nb7ip

  • @harrykatsaros

I personally see KD2 and Magic as the best double album of all time. Magic sounds like KD2 B-sides that didn’t fit. You’ve got the hungrier and more braggadocios Magic with young Nas on the cover and the more introspective and mature KD2 with old Nas on the cover. Even the concept is great.
And 100% if Kanye or Drake dropped KD2 and Magic this year the whole mainstream would be putting them in the GOAT discussion out of nowhere. That’s how solid these 2 projects are. Nas is his own worst enemy because it all just comes so effortlessly that we don’t realise how next level it all really is.
As far as the mainstream and labels not wanting Nas on top, he addressed this on the album, “Bohemian Grove couldn’t get Nas to visit”. But Magic is killing it even without the media recognition. He just unseated Adele for #1 album on the iTunes Charts. Word of mouth has always been Nas’s secret weapon. 🐐

Nas sounded top notch on the entire Untitled album and Life Is Good. Emcee performance wise. Magic is up there with those albums. So I’d say 2008 & 2012. And even all the features he did between 2014-2018. Magic is on par with that. I Am isn’t even touching those eras. Flow wise. Skill wise. The only thing I Am has to compete is the elite level concepts

Nas stories are so real to me when he talks about honour, respect, integrity and being humble. The way he contextually brings in historical people or historical events, or even the factual things he raps about makes it clear to me that Nas is better. Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled and Distant Relatives is a 3 album run to me. Thoroughly enjoyed those albums. Can listen to Hip Hop is Dead all the way through with no skips and think it is great. Untitled has a couple of joints that are bit too radio sounding for me but the strong points of the album are really strong. (Queens Get the Money, America, Sly Fox) Distant Relatives is more subjective depending on taste but I loved that album too. Thought Nas and Damien Marley had pretty good chemistry.

His ability to understand and deliver on the needed tone and energy of hit records, and respond to that championship pressure almost every time, is an emcee attribute. It’s a nuanced argument, but that energy of responding to the most difficult challenges, adding in fundamental emcee tenets, music business trailblazing, and social commentary, I think Jay and Tupac were the only ones who could do all those things. The only other people who come close are KRS and of course Nas.
