Been studying your videos for 2 weeks on all my free time, got the last of my gear today, perfect refresher video before I head out to the water for first time Saturday, wish me luck
Shout out from Alabama. I’ve grown up bass fishing with spin and bait casters, but taking up fly fishing has me so intrigued. Love your videos. So informative. I’m learning a lot. Thank you for what you do.
Perfect timing with this video. Ive been struggling to catch trout nowadays and only catch chub and blue gill. Now i will admit ive been a little stubborn when it comes to attaching tippet to leaders and fishing anything higher than 5x. Side note: you guys have changed my life! You taught me how to fly fish and i love it. I started a business selling flies, hopefully i will continue to sell flies and become a guide later in my life. Thank you for every video and piece of knowledge you have passed on to me.
Another outstanding video from VFC. As always, the information is extremely well presented and in an entertaining manner. My only wish is that Spencer had included the drop-shot or bounce rig. Having just obtained a 10', 4wt rod I'm really anxious to try this on a couple of upcoming trips. I'm always looking for new ways to fish - not to supplant the old but rather to expand on the experience. Thanks again VFC!
Would you give your opinion regarding items such as tippet rings, and micro swivels. Do you mostly use double or triple surgeons, a perfection loop, a cinch knot, and a non-slip loop knot. Any opinion regarding figure 8 knot for smaller flies? And finally, other than a dry fly when possible, your preferred indicator? Thanks for sharing with us!
For my streamer I use the madriveroutfitters leader formula starting with 20 pound maxima and tapering down to 10 pound using blood knots. It cast so easy
Another great episode. I love the way you guys take out the "yut-ta-duh" factor with your guides; printing them off and putting them in my fly fishing notebook as well as saving them on Drive. I have a request. Can you do one of your dummie's guides on fly lines; in the process of rewatching ep. 17 & 51? There are so many different ones. Thanks. P. S. Have you tried the Coke Oreo yet? 17:39
I haven't tried it yet! I haven't seen it for sale around here. We're usually a year behind the times in my neck of the woods. RE: fly line guide - yeah, I think we'll get to that soon.
I’m brand new to fly fishing and got a box of trout flies as a gift. But I’m not too sure what size hook they are. How do I know if I’m using the right hook with the right liter or tippit?
Hey Spencer! I started watching your videos a couple months ago and I'm also interested in starting fly tying which leads me to my question for you, what vice do you have in the background of this video? Can't wait to see some more fly fishing vids!
It's the old version of our Flysmith Vise here at VFC, which we don't sell anymore, because we're in the process of building a brand-new vise that's gonna rock!
There are no stonefly emerger patterns because stoneflies don't emerge in the same way caddis and mayflies do. The RS2 and Sparkle Dun are great options for emergers.
I am a beginner on all dry fly is the tippet supposed to float or sink. Some times it floats and some times it sinks, how do get the tippet to do what you want it to do.

Hey Spencer! How are you brother? Great video!
Things are going well! Thanks a bunch!
I love you guys, you have helped me start this fly fishing journey. BTW any diet drink is nasty stuff. But good wings are just about the perfect food.
Pumped to hear it! Glad you've found the videos helpful. Wings for the win! 💪🏽

Sounds like you might have been using fluorocarbon instead of nylon. Fluorocarbon sinks, nylon floats.
@@SpencerDurrantok the tippet on dry flies supposed to float thank you I was not sure.
