When putting it all back together, the trickiest part I had was getting that ring clip back on (without a compression tool). The shaft actually slides in a bit. You gotta pull out the shaft to be able to compress the spring behind the plate enough to clip the spring in its groove.
Also, when reinstalling the spring assembly for the horn, which sprung out on me prior to determining how it came apart (as seen in this video), you wanna install the spring, then the wide "T" end of the post first against the spring, then the black plastic clip holds it in place. The shaft of the post slides and extends through the black plastic clip.
Your suppose to use the lock plate tool, that's also at autozone it's on the tool isle ( I'm a mgr at autozone, employees want tell u about the lock plate removing tool, it's also a returning took it's OEM tool also.
I've got a 76 chevy van with turn signal cancel problems. The signal mechanism looks exactly like yours. I replaced both springs (one was missing originally) and it still doesn't work. Not sure whats up. Bummer. I don't really see how those springs are supposed to work, they don't seem to really do anything.
cody morrissette They are just bolted on. Usually 3 bolts. There were a few different types of mirrors but I believe they are all the same basic idea. My truck has the standard chrome mirrors, and to remove it you have to remove the screw on the bottom of the mirror to access the bolts behind it. Some are torx some are #2 bits.
