11:34 Pro-tip for tree planting: dig a square hole.
If you have a round hole, especially in hard-packed soil, the roots don't want to grow out, as it follows the route of least resistance. Instead they get stuck in the loose filler soil, coiling up below the tree and preventing a wider root system from forming. A square hole has sharp corners, where the roots get pushed into and have nowhere to go but out.
Done this way, the tree will have a much bigger chance of growing a solid root system, that isn't packed together.

I thought one of the ways to deal with fallen fruit was to put a giant net on the ground so the fruit falls into it and when it needs emptying you can kinda just drag them all away. Then you can empty the net into whatever container you'd like. Either raising the corners a bit so the fruit doesn't roll off or using tent pegs to hold the net down. Not overly engineery and water can still go back into the soil.

We moved into a place on a large plot that has apple trees on it and early on we were being bombarded with kamikaze apples that would split when they hit the ground so we would throw them away.
Eventually we bought an apple picker which is like a small open cage on an extended pole to pick them before they drop.
Do you use the damaged apples in your cider?
I think you need something like a netting trampoline that sits under the tree so when the apples fall onto it they can then roll down into a collecting bag (not too big a bag cos they weigh a tonne)

There is a way to get the apples from the tree, check how machines pick olives from the trees in Portugal, it's actually like a reverse umbrella with the shaker attached to it, so it is a 2 in one...

Ben M25 rootstock 6M (20') tree wow huge. Some very specific pruning to be carried out there to allow them to be columnar otherwise you will have a ' mare with harvesting!

Alright Sir, retired or not, you were the Stig and that carries some weight till the end of your days. Please look into a Canam Side by side. Theres nothing better! You need utility around there but why not have the available power and speed. Plus Lockers are a must for you, make sure you find one with locking differentials. Goodluck, looks like fun and would be great to try some hard cider from your farm some day.

Ben, get some Wiltshire sheep. They are easy keepers and they molt so you don't have to shear them. Will keep your orchard grass down whilst also providing lamb chops.

Does it ever stop raining over there? I watched a Tom Lamb (buddy of Colin Furze) video today, and he was trying to drag disk harrows without getting his new tractor bogged down in the mud. I live in the main grape growing area of New Zealand, but the next valley south of here has had just 11cm of rain in the last nine months! The government finally declared the area a drought today/

Just an idea for Ben. put a fence around your orchard and graze either ducks or chickens around the trees and they will eat all the bugs and worms that get into the apples and then you get to sell eggs and or meat as well.
