Hello , I am doing a kitchen remodel and I ran into a old 12-3 wire , The wire says 3/C 12 AWG NM with ground 600V E1187 (UL) and I followed them into the kitchen outlets . I need to get them into the wall to close up the wall and ceiling . Do I just pull new wire where the old one was and follow it down the line , can I switch it to 12-2 or does it still have to be 12-3 , I need to add gfci outlets
I would have to have the whole picture of what changes you are making to make an informed comment, but you may not need to change out the 3-wire at all. I'd check with you electrical inspector as to what he / she wants you to do to meet the code. Send me more details if you want, to terry@electrical-online.com

I just want to place the wires that were ran through the bulk head in the wall and then I need to add a few outlets . I want to replace all the outlets with GFCI’s and then add an outlet for the fridge
Well, I don’t. It is a good practice to shut off all the branch circuits one by one before turning off the main, then reverse the process when powering back up, main on, then turn on individual breakers.
