Of all the nominees, for me this soundtrack is a masterpiece, the Overture (ship) gives you goosebumps and the others are incredible, that one deserves to win for best soundtrack, or even the Conclave.

Daniel Blumberg should win the Oscar straight up, for sneaking in that catchy and groovy jam at the end of the film; Epilogue (Venice)

  • @thegermaniclanguagebranch1117

Love his mention of Evan Parker the soprano saxer on this score. Someone more knowledgeable than me would probably know more, but you guys should def check out his project Monoceros from 1978. It’s nothing but Parker’s soprano sax, and he somehow plays the sax continuously for 20 minutes without any space to breathe. It’s frenzied, fierce sax playing and you can hear bits just like it on the Brutalist score.

The score, right from the get go made you feel like you were watching something epic and impeccably crafted. That first scene. I look peeking inside the mind of artists like this and getting to know their creative process - like the hammering of the piano strings etc or echoes in Carrera. Brilliant.

To emphasise the power dynamic between Buren and Laszlo, how Buren abuses that power and Laszlo is helpless. Represents America and immigrants coming over to experience the ‘American Dream’. Not to mention the anti-Semitic things Buren says as he’s doing it.
