It's amazing that in 2024, technology companies still cannot find a way to monetize their consumer products outside of Advertising. I don't know if that says more about the lack of creativity and innovation in Technology companies, or if it's a stronger commentary on how easy it is for people to get sold stuff just because they see it on a screen.
how's it surprising? r&d and other costs are expensive and to make all that massive expense worth it you need to reach more people without charging them directly hence the ads. Also another thing is if companies charged for using search or youtube how would people in poorer countries be able to access these tools?
This lines up with the CEO's stated plans he made several months ago on a podcast. He always said he was open to advertising. It may diminish the integrity of the results however without a very strong firewall. It may also encourage more AEO manipulation
