    This was on sale at Amazon so thought I'd give it a go as my introduction to Villainous, love how friendly yet not-patronising this playthrough was to watch. Now if only I can convince my friends and/or family to play so I don't end up relying on BGG's solo variants 😂

      This playthrough was also my introduction to Villainous, and I thoroughly enjoyed Monique and Naveen's gameplay, as I always do. Consequently, I just bought the game on Amazon, but it won't be delivered until Dec. 14th. If you come to Japan around that time, I'll be more than happy to play the game with you. I'll supply the Scooby snacks, hamburgers, hot dogs, and chili. 😉

    Not sure Mace Windu was played correctly at @20:20. Card states that all allies 'at' Grevious sector are -1 strength. Grievous was at Florrum, not his lair, so they would only get those -1 Strengths if Windu was still in play and Grievous moved to his Lair. If Windu was to be defeated, then those -1 Strengths icons would not trigger. My understanding Windu's effects only apply to allies at 'same' location as to where Greviosu marker is.

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay 2 года назад +7

      I believe "sector" means the entire player board, whereas individual locations are referred to as "locations." The Mace Windu card states, "When Mace Windu is played, all Allies in General Grievous' Sector get -1 Strength," so unfortunately those allies were effected =/

    I think there was a slight misplay the last time she played every word of what you just said was wrong. I think, correct me if I’m wrong, she should’ve been able to choose which destiny tokens got moved, because she’s the one who played the fate card.

    • @WatchItPlayed

      Sorry, I'm not able to easily double check this right now, but what you're saying sounds correct - the wording of the effect details which player makes that adjustment.

After all, then she could have forced two Dark-Side area Tokens to be Light-Side and neutral respectively, for a total of 3 non-dark. Instead of letting Naveen move the neutral to light and a dark to neutral for a total of 2 non-dark tokens.

    Wow... that was an extremely thematic playthrough from both of you. Naveen/kylo being conflicted early on, then when he was mostly in the darkside BAM!! Luke shows up and kept Naveen teetering before finally succumbing fully to the darkside.
    And Monique foregoing her main goal in a desperate attempt to keep foiling Naveen. That's basically Grevious MO in the Clone Wars series iirc 😁

    Question - Since Kylo is conflicted, do you get to choose his path at the very start? I would imagine choosing light would require different fate cards, but there seemed to be that option at the very beginning.

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  8 месяцев назад

      All six Destiny Tokens begin in the neutral area, and certain cards will either move Destiny Tokens toward the Dark Side or Light Side, or place them directly in a specific area.

    • @ArchAngel_M81
      @ArchAngel_M81 8 месяцев назад

      @@WatchItPlayed I did some research, and I misunderstood what was said in the beginning. Kylo Ren’s objective is to always move the destiny counters to the dark side. I had thought there was an alternate winning objective to move all counters to the light side to be chosen by the player at the very beginning instead of moving counters to the dark side.

    Another question: I’ve seen you play lots of euro style games but also games like this that are dripping with theme. Do you have a personal preference? Like when a new game hits the table, do you get more excited if you heard that it has really well crafted mechanics or more excited if you heard it has lots of theme? Maybe both?

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay 2 года назад +4

      We are both slightly split on that! I (Monique) enjoy a game more when it is dripping with theme and Naveen is a Euro gamer all the way haha. Theme is nice in his opinion, but not required. How about you? What is your preference?

    • @rafiweiss3915
      @rafiweiss3915 2 года назад +1

      @@BeforeYouPlay You know, I should have figured that would be the ways you guys are split on it, based on your top ranked games!
      Personally, I get the biggest “feel good” feelings when a game has tied its mechanics very tightly to theme, for a few reasons:
      1) it’s so much easier to teach,
      2) because it feels like the designer really put time into the research and thinking behind each decision in the game as it relates to the theme and theme is not just an afterthought and
      3) it usually means that players don’t feel badly when stuff like “take that” happens or when things swing in crazy weird directions because ultimately, it’s theme coming though and telling wild stories! Like in Root, the Eyrie might just be attacking everyone, even a weak player, but they’ll say, “i have to! My leader demands it!” 😂

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay 2 года назад

      @@rafiweiss3915 That makes total sense! I agree, it tends to be easier to teach since you can easily explain the reasons for certain mechanics, and it also seems easier to remember that way. I also really like the "story" behind the actions like you mentioned in #3. Thanks so much for sharing!

    Thanks for the playthrough folks. I’ve been on the fence about this one. I was a big fan of the Villainous games… until prospero hall left the development. This one looks better, but not enough to get me back on board. Most of recent goals are ‘get this many x to win’; while easier to balance, they’re no where near as thematic as Hades, Jafar or Dr Facilier for instance. Are there villains with more narrative goals? And if there’s a Palpatine from RoS, do you shuffle his goal from a big deck of random each turn? 😜
