It is believed that,"Daiva Kordabbu" is an Incarnation of "Lord Shiva". Lord took a Human form to Protect the Innocent poor people who got cursed from Lord Shiva Himself . Born out of “Satyada” (Honourable, Divinely blessed) to unwed mother Kachuru Maldi (Mahalakshmi) Many years ago, he is said to have suffered humiliation from envious upper castes for possessing extraordinary powers, who were ultimately tried and managed to make him silent by burying him alive in a deep well by using Black magic. All other Daivas and even Rajan Daivas came to help Kordabbu to get him out of that well but they failed. finally Babbuswamy was saved by Daiva Tannimaaniga, whom Kordabbu accepted as his sister. Most Powerful spirit in Daivas, Daiva jumaadi(Dhoomavathi) became Dhootha of Kordabbu after knowing who really Kordabbu is. Following this, they said to have spread their presence and reach to many places.
Although Kordabbu is known as a spirit(Daiva) in some regions, he is worshipped as God in many regions."Daiva Jumaadi" and "Guliga" daivas are believed to be the protectors(Dhootha) of the premises of the spirit shrines of Babbuswamy. “If Kordabbu is the King, Guliga is the commander of his army,” The People having faith in Kordabbu or Babbuswamy, strongly believe that they could seek solution to any of their problems - Social, Financial, Educational or Health. It is believed that those possessed of Babbuswamy during the annual Nemotsava or jatra perform a strange practice where they produce blood from their head to feed the 'Bhootha Ganas'.There is also a strong belief that just by Seeing Kordabbu in 'Siri-singaara nemotsava' He Forgives all our past sins.
