It was actually the Scottish who were the first to deep-fry chicken in fat (the rest of the world usually baked or boiled it), and they brought the dish with them to America.
And alot of Scottish people settled in Appalachia! Lots of Scottish and Irish people in Appalachia . So there’s lots of traditions from those peoples that still survive . We have a Highland Games too. Awesome fun. Great foods!
Land is being snapped up here in north Idaho too. So many people coming here. We bought our 20 acres almost 30 years ago and only 6 years ago we’re we able to build and move onto the acreage. We continue to build our homestead every day, a lot of work but the best lifestyle EVER! Blessings, TeresaSue
I think it's great that you two are affectionate towards each other. We need more love in the world. Thanks again for another fun video, love watching these and best of luck with finding your land. I know you will just keep the faith. It's out there.
We searched and searched for a long time and ran into the same difficulties...a hill with no place to build, etc. We decided to expand our search and that's when we found our perfect piece of land! The timing was incredible too with all the setbacks leading up to the actual time the property went up for sale. Praying your land is "just around the corner."🌞
I'd suggest that if you find some land that you may want to purchase, let the sellers know that you want to use it as a homestead or small farm. They may be more amenable to selling if they know you aren't looking to put in a McMansion or some kind of development.
The Scottish originated fried chicken. The recipe traveled through West Africa and finally the Southern half of the United States where it's the most popular. Great video! Really enjoyed learning about your process.

@Sunshine RR similar to the way things are in my hometown in East Tennessee. My family settled there in the last 1600’s. I’m in Northern Alabama now and I’m hoping to downsize from the large house we are in and move into a smaller house…and I’m hoping to find a place with some surrounding land . I made the chicken like you did. I fried in in olive oil still great. I used bread and parsley, no butter or flour. Carbs and diabetes. I made French fries in oven. And veggies. No dessert.
I grilled this morning. I can't grill anymore. My health is bad right now. I'll find out what's wrong soon. Oh well if I die remember I love your show. Keep smiling
Looks good. I wrote the recipe down. I’m using the drum legs, frying in my iron skillet and instead the cayenne pepper in gravy, I’ll put it in the breadcrumbs and nutmeg in the gravy.
Just discovered the future wife (Beany is a cutie!!) frying chicken & followed her here AND I LOVE IT!! Such a relaxing video watching the cooking with no talking but talking with the eating really rocks too. Y'all have another subscriber here👊❤
@@frontierpatriot I just had a full on Frontier Patriot Sunday! I ended up on the movie which was very impressive for what y'all were doing. Awesome idea but even better execution of the idea. Really impressed & love the "Ethel & Fred" of Frontier Patriot (recalling from memory & scared to death I'm wrong but was it...) Candy & Dale rocked too! Nothing better than being informed (especially history when it's being revised right in fort of our eyes) and entertained at once.👊❤️
We’re all about to become more like Ron and Justine. But that’s ok. We just best be learning to garden, make fires, gather food, raise chickens, learn to live without electricity. 💜
@Leticia Wallace ~ ~ that is what is so scary - I doubt that there are not too any people Under 40 who would know HOW to grow a garden or even WHY they had to grow one. Example I raised all 4 of my kids with the proverbial Karo syrup and Evaporated milk “receipt”. But can these new Mothers, no - they have no clue!

I agree, it would be fantastic if you would put together a collection of your favorite receipts that you have made over the last year or so. Thank you in advance.
I brought some acreage years ago, LOL. It had a mix of steep and flat and slope. It was also a vertical swamp! And nothing but wild rose brambles and daffodils, and some horrid wicked waxy thorn bushes would grow. I tried growing a few berry bushes, and few easy to grow vegs - nope! The soil was not for gardening. I made a good profit on it though, after holding it for 15 years :), as it WAS excellent hunting land.
Your videos are comforting ❤❤ The chicken looked so good !! That cheese cake made my mouth water . I love history and love all the wonderful information. Thankyou guys ❤❤
Great meal! yum. Have you covered how you keep food cold, like leftovers, especially in the heat/summer? If so I haven't seen it yet. Hope you get the land you want in that area.
Thank you Ron, and fellow Americans, for holding down the militia. Most Americans truly have no idea what that means. It is in our 2nd amendment that we are the militia 👍
On 26 June 2022 my grandson and his wife are coming for a visit at which time she and I will be rendering our own lard and whipping up a batch of that delicious-looking 1796 fried chicken. Can't wait. Really like your videos. You two youngsters are a treasure. John
Life's too short, eat the dessert first! One of my favorite stories about my grandma raising a family during the great depression through WWII, is how she cooked a chicken to feed 10 people at dinner time.
Trying to find anything in SEMO is extremely difficult the past few years:( Even down here in Stoddard county, people are asking ridiculous prices for land parcels. I wish you both the very best of luck in finding your dream property!
My Grandmother made the best pies. My Grandfather died when I was 2 so I didn't really get to know him. He didn't like cake, so she made pies all the time. Her meringue was about a foot tall and so good. I can't bake, even watching her. I just don't have that talent.
I need to move where you guys live. Where I live, land is $100,000 per acre and up. Good luck with your search. And I'm going to try to fry chicken recipe. It looks delicious!
I absolutely LOVE both your channels💗💗💗. I have always been fond of pioneer type days/living, log cabins off grid and fully functional ones. I love the cozy cottage feel. Justine your meals look Amazing! I respect you and Ron so much for recreating history and how they lived, ate. I love canning too. God bless you both many blessings to you both🙏💗🙏. Love from Arizona 🌵🌴🌵🌴🌵
It's the lard. Frying things in lard makes fried food miles better than oil fried. Grandma Utz Kettle Cooked chips are some of the only potato chips fried in lard and they are amazing.
Hi, guys! I was also thinking of bread- every culture in the world, it seems, has it's own kind of bread-like food. Great video. Good luck finding land; It takes time, but it will happen. See you next time! Love from CT
Sorry don't know anyone selling land in St. Gen County but God does!! Thank you for giving the specific needs y'all desire! Curious do you want timber on the lans? Praying for God to meet your needs & desires ! May God direct you in your pursuits! Amen!
I can tell you both are "in" to this fried chicken! Those beans look yummy too. I had forgotten about that type of bean, so I will have to look at the grocery store and see if I can find them!
I would suggest finding land you're interested in instead of looking for land listed for sale. Once you find a few different locations go to your local municipality and get the owner's name (which is public record). Then you can contact them and ask if they're interested in selling. You would be surprised at how many people own land and just can't be bothered with listing it for sale even though they have no plans to do anything with it.
I hope you find land. Keep saving. I love cheese cake and Carmel anything. My ex-husband before he died we bought Carmel ice cream and ate it with more Carmel. I will pray a rosary in hope you find the right land for you and Ron.
We need way more young Americans like you two, watching you guys gives me faith and hope.

My Grandmother made the best pies. My Grandfather died when I was 2 so I didn't really get to know him. He didn't like cake, so she made pies all the time. Her meringue was about a foot tall and so good. I can't bake, even watching her. I just don't have that talent.
Ron "I'll JUST take a wing, a breast, a thigh, and a leg" sooooo half a chicken!
Love love watching the cooking episodes
My mom would grow butter beans in her garden .They are my favorite !
Thank you! Video are awesome and feel good relaxing to watch 🥰🥰🥰
One thing that makes your fried chicken so scrumptious is that it was fried in lard
I need to move where you guys live. Where I live, land is $100,000 per acre and up. Good luck with your search. And I'm going to try to fry chicken recipe. It looks delicious!
I look forward to seeing this tomorrow morning here in the UK 💜💜💜
love it Barbie.....is menopausal significant?
Thank you dear
@@plainsimple442 not any more, perhaps I should change it to Post menopausal Barbie now 😂😂😂
I absolutely LOVE both your channels💗💗💗.
Thank you sweetheart your kind words made me smile from ear to ear. Bless you too and you have a great day!
You would be surprised at how many people own land and just can't be bothered with listing it for sale even though they have no plans to do anything with it.
thankyou so much!
The only thing I hadn't heard of before in the ingredients list was the mushroom catsup. Did you have to make that yourself?
There is also a reciet to make your own on Townsend
How do you store leftover food, considering the period of time you’re portraying?
Hey guys take your time with the land shopping 🛍
I hope you find land. Keep saving. I love cheese cake and Carmel anything. My ex-husband before he died we bought Carmel ice cream and ate it with more Carmel. I will pray a rosary in hope you find the right land for you and Ron.
thankyou
