The quality of the powder let’s even old guys like me enjoy the whole day. At Whistler the weight of the snow means a morning of joy, and a shortened afternoon of groomed runs. At Red you feel like you can fly down the steeps forever. The snow is so dry that it floats. Was very fortunate to have grown up with access to to this magic. Great review!
Brilliant guide to Red, I spend 5 weeks there in 2017, will be back for another 5 or so weeks in 2025. It certainly is the best resort I have spent time at. Once again fantastic vid.
Had the best 3 days at Red last year!! What an amazing place to ride! I had a blast exploring all the crazy features. I saw 3 lynxes under the Motherload chair!! Was so amazing!!
Thanks so much! It's a slow and steady climb and I appreciate each and every one of you who are coming along for the ride! I'm glad you like the format. Try and win that draw and maybe you'll get to go for free!
Great review. Red is one of my faves, along with Revelstoke and Fernie. Skied them all last winter. Rossland is a great little authentic ski town and close to Trail which has a ton of amenities. Can't wait to get back there this season!
@@riseandalpine I love them all but would have to rank Revy as #1. Great town, super steeps and trees and blower snow. The only downside is it is getting busier and more gentrified. I think Fernie is a better town overall then Revy but the skiing isn't quite as good, although there are no lineups during the week as the Calgary crowd only comes for the weekend. Red has better terrain IMO then Fernie but the town is a lot small with fewer dining/aprés options. All 3 are fantastic options.
You've seen a few of my comments by now and I'm glad you like them. Unfortunately I can't say anything about Red Mountain because I've never skied it. However: my brother has skied it a few times in recent years, and he is also very familiar with you channel, so I thought I'd check this out; it looks like a pretty darn good ski hill. Thanks for posting!
Def want to hit up Red! BC is one of my favorite spots, just gotta get out there more! Today it smelled like snow, so hopefully I can take some of these skis off my living room wall and ride them soon 😎🙌
My favorite place to ski. I had a couple of weeks there in 2019 but didn't get the snowfall of your day . I loved the place and will certainly be back. Going to fernie this new year so looking forward to a new place, who knows it might be my new favorite 😮
There is another amazing hill that is a bit smaller but has the kind of terrain and snow about an hour away called Whitewater. If you're in that neighbourhood it is definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed.
Glad you're digging them! I get so distracted by powder and tree skiing I always forget to look at parks :). What mountain terrain park would you like to see?
@riseandalpine I'd be keen to see the park at RED and Fernie. I know some of these resorts have very limited park offerings but I'd love to get a more detailed look.
Skied it this year at the end of Feb great pow day! One of my all time favourite places. Takes a wee bit of effort to get there and it does have the occasional sub optimal day, but all in all when the stars align it is perfect! For me it fits right in there with Castle, Apex and Whitewater in the old school vibe camp. I find it has a similar layout to “The Fish” in Montana, with both having great glades. Also makes a great pair up with WW just up the road. If you have ventured this far you might as well do both. Shred on!
Here is a list of my fav runs! Any of the Slides High spirits Ledges Powder fields Bomb shack Sara’s chute And if you want someone where no one goes, any of the coolers (right beside the microwave tower, you gotta hike)
I noticed that you didn’t really hit the Red chair, good call. I mean Red does suck all over but particularly off that chair…particularly when temps are cool to the base and it’s been snowing .
@@riseandalpine Sandpoint isn't quite as focused a ski town as Rossland, but it's great skiing and worth a visit. And there's a string of smaller resorts in ID to check out, as long as you're crossing the border...
Lol, when you started talking about temps in the negatives it took me a moment to realize... Celsius! Anyways, just a fun reminder that you have friends to the south!
My one trip to Red it was me on the old skinny skis (pre shaped ski days) with 3 others on snowboards. We hit town the day after a 2' dump - not terribly uncommon, but very much appreciated as we were in from Vancouver. Mind-blowing bomber conditions, you could go down blindfolded with no fear whatsoever there was so much light fluff. We all unanimously agreed on the spot to stay an extra day, and the guys weren't slowing me down on their boards - we were just gunning it all day each day. We swung up to Whitewater the last day to close out the jaunt - easily up there with one of the absolute best ski trips ever.
Good to note that Robbie is slack ctry as well and out of bounds not patrolled you need your avi gear on that side too.. your vid seems to note it’s needed the Kirkup side only !! It’s well signposted read and follow don’t be that guy And top tip from my own experience trees don’t move !
Thanks for noting this! Trees absolutely do not move lol. People often forget that avalanches can happen in tree areas, it's completely possible and extremely dangerous!
Hello, I love the energy you have when you ski and I try to have as much fun as you do when I go on the slopes! Wondering for ski boots, did you get yours custom i.e custom liner and molded?
Glad to hear someone is having just as much fun as me out there! For boots, I'll always go to a boot fitter and have them help pick a boot that works right for my needs and foot shape. Typically, I'll just run the stock liner but I'll go to a boot fitter for multiple sessions to get the shell and liner adjusted, punched out and customized until I have a comfortable fit. Boot fitting is a dance and takes some time, but when you get it right, it's an absolute game changer. Erin from the control room in Whistler is my go-to guy. He does fabulous boot fitting work.
Thank you and sorry for not asking if I didn't previously! Couldn't remember if RED gave me this from promotional material or where I got it. Is it cool if I keep it and credit @skyscopeimagery in the description.
Hi Rise&Alpine, love the vids. Question: what's the deal with where to stay? Do most people stay in Rossland or in the hotels on the hill itself? Also, where do workers live life up there? Is there a nice village vibe/community at all or is it all about ripping the hill? Thanks
Hey! Awesome questions. To be honest I just crashed on a friend couch and am not sure about accommodation. There is the stuff right up at the hill and I know there are some affordable spots in Trail. Someone else could speak to this way better than me but, I think Most workers who live up there rent apartments. There is a super quaint town centre and the people are all super nice. There's no huge party scene like a banff or Whistler, it's all about the skiing.
Planning a trip in March. Does anybody have an idea of the snow condition/snow fall during that time of year? I know it’s unpredictable but any info would help. I figure to stay in the north than go into Utah/Colorado
Probably shouldn’t say this, but the out-of-bounds experiences to be discovered on Red make it a destination for expert powder hounds. This review was very “responsible”. Definitely can find an avalanche or two, so go prepared if you venture off the patrolled mountain. You can ski untouched powder all day.
Terrible mountain, terrible town - flat hill, no snow, people are unfriendly, food is gross, Rafters sucks, prices are ASTRONOMICAL! PLEASE STAY AWAY!! ... ... ... ... More pow for me (next time I go)! 😁😁😁
This is all a lie. Red sucks! It's in the middle of nowhere and takes forever to get there. The lifts are slow and the town is tiny. Nothing to see there, move it along.
You're 20 years too late with this video, it used to be how you described it, now it's full of big fish, arsehole narcs in a small pond, the locals left in search of new frontiers...

Thanks for the tip on the RED contest. Here's hoping I can hit RED and Revy this winter!
I hope you win it! RED and Revy are a sick combo trip!
Dude I would love to see you hit panorama sometime this winter. The snowfall can be a bit hit or miss but the Taynton bowl has some solid tree runs.
I'd love to check out Panorama! Any other recco's for runs if I make it there?
Love Panorama
Last time I was at Panorama, I saw a guy clearing a driveway with a leaf blower! That’s light snow lol

Totally worth a mid-season trip!
It doesn’t get good till late January. Barely can open at Christmas. Season is short.
Jan/Feb is when Red is pumping. December you'd have to goto Alberta rockies for anything decent or get lucky at whistler.
