India still had 16k fatalities. Maldives and Sumatra did. Maldives lessened the waves for East Africa and some parts of Arabian Peninsula (may have killed tens of thousands to both regions) while Sumatra guarded Malaysia from receiving the brunt of the waves (they may have suffered the same number of fatalities with Sumatra).

This is a tsunami that occurred as a result of the earthquake in Aceh Indonesia which was caused by the movement of tectonic plates, on December 26, 2004. the country worst affected by the tsunami was Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and parts of Africa
