Be careful with different wheels on the front of a 928. They are quite sensitive to changes in the offset. The standard wheels are ET65. Lots of Porsche wheels are ET47 and the scrub radius of the car is eliminated, making the steering much less stable. My 928 had the wrong offset on the front when I got it, I replaced them with genuine GTS wheels and the difference in stability was mind blowing.
Agree wholeheartedly with respect to the importance to ensure that the wheels have the correct factory offset! A common mistake people make when fitting wheels with different offsets. Know of a chap who spent a lot of money modifying his 944 Turbo with a race spec 3.0L engine from the 968 with over 600bhp only to fit on some used wheels from a Porsche 997. When he sold the car, the new owner had ordered a set of 9” wide Fuchs wheels with the correct offset & he could not believe the improvement with handling & drive ability, especially on the track. You can fit wider wheels, but ensure that the offset is as per factory spec.

Hey Richard! Another great episode! Can't wait to see this beast develop. Question: is there a way for you to incorporate information detailing the future, or breakthroughs of modern battery technology? My brother keeps explaining that Hydrogen fuel cells will be the future blah blah, I keep seeing info regarding info about solid state batteries, which seems awesome, but don't know the limitations. I see you guys as showing us the future, but it's been more about the current for me, which has been great! But would love to see what the future holds. You guys are the pioneers if that future, would be great to see what the plans are for your hopes and dreams to incorporate all if those future developments.
The Tesla model S was released in 2013. In 2014 the hydrogen powered Toyota Mirai was released. Hydrogen is not the future. It’s was released at the same time as modern EVs, yet hydrogen fell by the wayside for so many reasons. For anyone thinking that hydrogen is the future tell them to buy a Toyota Mirai, they’re the here and now, and they can’t given them away. 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Loving this build, I'm a little scared of the wheel and headlight mods. The 928 tends to look a little odd with aftermarket larger wheels, like its on stilts. I'm hoping the Turbo twist wheels look OK, its hard to tell in that glossy black.
Electric Classic Cars needs to start a SVD, a Special Vehicles Devision. A division where cars come out guaranteed not to be not the same car it was going in ( not even considering the missing engines ) , more carbon fibre, jazzy electrics , less carpet.
beautiful car, a little bit of history That Porsche was, at first, a German VW project to create a modernized version of the Brazilian VW SP2 that used the air cooled engine from the VW Beetle Google it, this SP2 might give you some ideas
I hate to sound even doubtful - but what is all that weight-saving going to do to the interior noise? The only 928 I have driven was hideously noisy (I am sure that was not "normal" for 928). But noise management is one of the things that is a bit tricky to manage with an electric conversion - motor whine not being thought to be "musical".
Cost, strength, weight savings ratio comparison. Fibreglass and carbon fibre vs steel or aluminium, plexi/lexan c/w tint vs tinted glass, hollow vs solid rims with larger tires vs standard, simplicity vs complexity on the loom harnesses. Understand the original design choices for the rear, preferred more weight to counter the heavy front engine. Are you planning for 1, 2, 3 or four independent motors to drive each wheel?
I have no idea how you plan to use the 928, but one of the absolute key features of it is those pop up headlights. Also, are you not going to miss a heated rear window?

If you’re asking why we’ve not changed the bonnet to CFR it’s because a CFR one weighs the same as the original aluminium one that’s presently on the car. 👍
This'll be a fabulous piece of work again. I'm curious how you get on with a post 1990 car with the electrics and assume all the looms are gone and you're going in from scratch?
Guessing the electronics would be a challenge, but a converted AEF Alpine A110 would be really cool. Some brit converted a Lotus Evora - a white car I think - so if that is possible I'm guessing a AEF Alpine A110 could be done as well…
Weird ! That 928 is very similar in weight to my Renault Megane Etech, which is also mostly aluminium and has twin aluminium wishbone suspension all round.
If I can make a suggestion, remove the rear seats, it is a 2 door sports car afterall, then add additional battery box for extended range. That would be a pretty incredible project, though it already is. :) Cheers!
Why trade range for weight ? If Moggi is going to the trouble of carbon fibre body panels and new headlights and deleting the air conditioning do you think he wants to add more than the necessary weight by oversizing the battery pack ? I suspect he wants to hit those welsh hill roads with panache.
