    So satisfying! You make it look so easy. I watched this in slow motion 10x and had to keep redoing it until I got it halfway decent. It's much harder with a small monofilament mesh, plus I was pretty drunk and high. Thanks for sharing!

    Never sow a net before mainly holes but will give it a try. This really helps. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Trying to learn for a couple of reasons. One, trying to get a job as a net repairman. And two, because my grandfather was a fisherman. He tried teaching me but I was really young and uninterested. It's a way to remember him by, bring me a bit closer to him in a way. It's a lot harder to do than it looks. Leaves untrained hands with blisters, too.

    when mending a net from left to wright you should come up through the mesh and when nitting from right to left you should go down through the mesh , That leads the twine in the direction you are mending 77yo retired trawler skipper

    The net is hung the wrong way up......so you are mending side knots as pull downs, and pulldowns (or pickups) as side knots. Hung correctly, the meshes form a proper diamond when pulled taut, and the pulldown & pickup knots can be cleaned leaving a much more professional job. I have been in this business for 51 years.

      @@86333able There is net-mending (which is acceptable if you want to get the net working as soon as possible), and then there is a professional repair that brings the net back to almost manufactured condition. Thanks for your comment btw.

    Where can I buy needles/shuttles like the one used in this video? I’ve looked all over and only been able to find them made of plastic and wood... Great video BTW, a tremendous help.

    • @worldofnets2201
      @worldofnets2201  4 года назад +2

      Glad you enjoyed it. You can easily use the wood or plastic needles, as they both work perfectly. The needle from this video I created by myself from scratch and I am thinking to upload a short explanatory movie, even if as already mentioned, wood and plastic ones are also perfect for this activity.

      I just used this guy's method on a small golf ball sized hole in a 3/8" monofilament net and it took hours... that string 1" mesh looked awesome but I found out real quick that thin mono twist up, curves, kinks and basically fights you on every knot. 3/8' is like your pinky so imagine holding and working a knot through a very small gap with a line that feels like a wet noodle that's always bent the wrong way. Def takes skill.

      I've ruined so many high end nets that weren't even close to repairable. I know it's tempting when you see the perfect bait sitting against rocks or oysters while the fish are popping off eating all around you. I've taken the risk a few times and tried to just pull it back before it touched rocks but ended up pancaked acrossed 10 feet of rocks and oysters. Literally couldn't even tear the net apart and pull it back to me. Hard lesson learned, I just refuse to throw anywhere near rocks or oysters and now I don't lose nets or tear them to shreds. Find places that hold bait and are safe for the net and just load them up and take them to your fishing spots.

      @@hookedonthebay3890 i keep a cheap-o with the plastic sinkers just for this , you can get one on Amazon for under $50 they don’t sink very fast which is fine for shallow baits near rocks , I feel your pain I’ve lost more than one or two on rock beds , last time I tried to get my net unstuck off rock I slipped on a rock and oyster shells slit the back of my leg all the way to the tendon so if they don’t come loose I tear them to get it up and trash it
