Ghost of Perdition is one of those songs along with stuff like Harlequin Forest and Blackwater Park that you can play to *any* music lover regardless of their musical taste and they'd find things in it that they really appreciate, growls or not! Also fun fact about this particular live at the Red Rock Amphitheater: the lighting engineer "played" all the lighting effects manually to the music, like playing a visual sonata of their own backstage! Not sure if that's how things are usually done on the lighting side, but impressive regardless when a band is as dynamic as Opeth 😁
Opeth was a band I avoided because of the growl. This song made me hear more and this live recording made me love growl. It's so fascinating how he does it with ease, at least that's how it looks. I always check out bands how they sound live and Opeth changed it my way of listening to music. I feel great respect for everything they do and I'm proud of myself for being able to truly love and enjoy each of their styles and phases in just 3 years. Your reactions deserve a lot for that. Thank you very much
And I'm really interested in what you would say about my opinion: the fact that fans love Opeth the most because of the dynamics, the change of energy... is because they have accepted their bipolarity, mixed feelings, and through music it's much easier to deal with it and get rid of negative energy. Due to the hustle and bustle of life, people are often not even aware of their true feelings, they don't accept them, especially not the negative ones. That's why this kind of music confuses and scares them. But that bad energy still remains in them. That's why I love Opeth, I throw out all the negative energy without hurting anyone.
@@MartinaHorvat-g3g I can totally see that. I think I'm a bit odd: I've personally never thought of it as negative energy. I can't listen to "dark" music when I'm going through a difficult or dark time. For me it's always simply been creative fiction to explore, and I simply like dissonance. They also seem to capture the feeling of gloomy, foresty weather, which is near and dear to my heart, and apart from that I can always picture "scenes" in their music as if from a film.
@RohannvanRensburg I didn't think in that way that there is negative energy in music, but just a reminder that there are always two different sides in us, equally valuable and complementing each other like day and night. But that's a bit more philosophy😁 but I hope you understand what I mean .We can't appreciate or understand one side without the other. I don't think your opinion is strange, I also can't listen to dark music when I'm in a difficult situation, in fact then I can't listen to any music, because I can't be objective. But I'm really glad that you mention the movie, because I recently described their music as "Pulp Fiction" in a discussion.
You should go listen to all of city of evil it’s amazing and is such a cool guitar record as well, also if you like harsh vocals their 2nd album waking the fallen is amazing too
You're right about what genre they belong too and to me, they've always just been Avenged Sevenfold. They're so eclectic, and each of their albums have a different vibe, and they always push the boundaries of music and keep it interesting you either love em or hate and for me they get even better over time
I recently took another look at their latest and I have a real admiration for it as an album for artists and those who get what went into it, it’s phenomenal. Is it a radio hit? Absolutely not. But, it is full of incredible writing, and message.
@@derpderpin1568 Someone who listens to The Stage and says they fell off doesn't know what they're talking about. But that's okay. Go back to listening to Unholy Confessions.
@@triplej8666I love all their albums except HTTK, but I’d say that WTF is them at their absolute peak, mainly cause Matt could scream great, but mainly for me at least why I think it’s their best is just the blend and the different progressions they use, it’s not too much screaming and they add melody and know when to hold back and make a clean transition. I still think clairvoyant disease is the most underrated song in their whole discography.
That's a gooden, Geebz! This Red Rocks concert is non stop 10/10 performances. Top shelf production🙌 HOWEVER, I still prefer the Roundhouse Tapes show. If you ever want to check some high quality "vintage" Opeth (recorded 2006).
Opeth, Ghost of Perdition, they played this on every stop along their current tour. I saw them in Dallas a month ago, and it was fantastic as always. The light show for this tour is great too. I uploaded a good video showing off the background visuals behind the stage.
Avenged being so generally undefinable is one of the reasons they are my favorite band. I have to agree with the note about it being a little overwhelming when trying to find a through-line on specifically City of Evil. It's a great album but they really did just keep throwing stuff into it. I'd say they "cleaned things up" for everything afterwards. If Nightmare is steak and eggs, City of Evil is a country skillet, delicious and messy
City of Evil is the album that really launched the band. But its kind of a chaotic mess. Not in a bad way but more like the band is pushing themselves to try new things. They still really push themselves but maybe in a more disciplined way.
Damn opeth live and a deeper A7X cut, what a great video. Good shit like always geebz, you should check out “the wicked end” by avenged also a deeper city of evil cut like sidewinder
we need all of the Avenged Sevenfold reactions... ALL OF THEM!!! 🤎
Sidewinder is one of A7X's absolute best, adore that song!

The easiest way to think about growls is "like distorted guitars, but for vocals"

they peaked with Waking The Fallen. City of Evil has some cool stuff, after that they fall off super hard.

My two favorite bands in one video!
My two favorite bands in one video
two of my favorite bands, two of my favorite songs 👏
this is pretty much my perfect video lol. my two favorite bands
This was my first encounter with Opeth, and what to say I fell deep into this rabbit hole. Well, I am still in there, love it.

Agreed. The Roundhouse Tapes performance of this song is much more energetic. Mix and production isn't as pristine though.
Sidewinder is my favorite A7X song. Best ending ever.
Do yourself a solid and check out "Bleak" by Opeth from Royal Albert Hall. It'll scratch you right where you itch
Thank you Geebz
Goo gramps! :D
Still here (for Opeth)! Love that song
Both favourite bands!
Wait, you were listening to the Trails in the Sky OST before this? That's awesome!
God, I farking love a7x. You should check out their "making of" videos for their songs. Helps to understand the bands thoughts and processes
The City of Evil album from Avenged Sevenfold is my favorite album by them. I recommend The Wicked End and M.I.A. and Strength of the World

Have you done Sleep Token yet ?
Start with "The Summoning".
I so want to love Opeth but I just can't get into them. It's the same for Dream Theatre.
Check out Paragraph 1, 3, and 6, they’re the best ones
*reacts to a metal song* " Nice uh, Black Sabbath vibe there." :XD: love you mate.
Hey can you check out “never fight a man with a perm” by IDLES?
Check out my band Irah Nox. Death metal/hardcore/thrash from Colorado.
