It’s technically not possible to restore a backup if the device has a lower iOS version than in the backup. You'd have to upgrade the iOS of your target device. Please let us know if we can help with anything.
why not merge the folders SMS instead or replacing them? Is it not possible to merge sms instead of restoring them by deleting ALL messages on the target device?
Hi there, thank you for getting in touch. This is actually not possible from a technical perspective as there are 2 databases and you can't merge databases.
@@DigiDNANetOfficial each database contained in singles files such as the plist files? which cannot be manually be opened and merged? What would happen if people tried to have multiple db files in their SMS / SMS Media folders?
@@user-mm2xh3hq1z There are thousands of entries in each database, and it’s almost impossible to merge them correctly. Even with a minor inconsistency, iOS will mark the db as corrupted.

There are a lot of free features, and all of them offer a free sample to try them out, so that could just do the job, but yes, we are a commercial enterprise. So past the free trial, given that you are satisfied with it, you might want to purchase a license :)

Can you follow this process for WhatsApp messages/data?
No unfortunately it is impossible to reinstate Whatsapp messages in another device using iMazing.
