They're called "Meoto Iwa" in Japanese which means, "Wedded Rocks" and they're seen as a sacred monument. It's pretty surreal to see them in person because they're huge!

I've just got back after a year studying at Kyudai Ito campus, literally a 10min cycle from the beach where Sunflower Cafe is! I loved it there, it's so wierd seeing on video and now I miss it even more! I'm not sure if you know, but there's a really cute and delicious German bakery just round the corner from Sunflower Cafe, although I heard it's shuting down and moving to Imajuku soon.

It's amazing how, no matter how old we get, we enjoy playing in the water so immensely. Good for you, Micaela, for not being afraid to show your boyfriend on-camera or yourself in a swimsuit at the beach, when it seems that so many other jvloggers are! Life is meant to be fun. :)
POOR KIT!!! My pup is afraid/uncomfortable with water too. I'm a marine biologist, and he just stays in the cabin, off the decks, won't even go look at the water. XD You guys are adorable, and this looked like so much fun! Is there a story behind the tori that is there, and the rocks?
Kit is not happy with the ocean! I didn't go to the beaches while I was there, because I am from Bermuda and am used to water I can see thru. I like being able to see what is coming, if you know what I mean!
Did it seem deserted? I was actually disappointed there were as many people there as there was, considering we went after summer holidays ended, on a weekday. Haha. I couldn't get a decent photo of the tori and rocks since people were constantly posing in front of it, especially as the sun started to set. 😭
Looks like a fun day. I noticed the torii and the rope thing on the mountains. Is that beach sacred or something or is there a shrine near by? And I'm sure he "planned" the fireworks.
Hmm, not sure. I just follow common sense. In my older video "Dating My Dog", I take him to a local beach that's normally very crowded but I keep him on a leash the whole time. In the mountains/at the seaside, if I'm sure he can behave, and there aren't other dogs or small children around, then I let him off leash. (He's not bad with other dogs or children, but I can't control how they react to him.) We do all his toilet stuff before we get there, so he's pretty well behaved and just enjoys chasing his ball and sitting in the sand. Responsibility is the most important thing I think. :)
Looks like you guys had a fun time :) Is Kit trained to stay in one spot? I remember reading that Shiba Inus weren't the best at doing that, so I was just curious
+Jam Cam Hehe, I think the key to getting dogs like him to be obedient is to let them tire themselves out first. As soon as we got to the beach we threw the ball and let him run around, tried to bring him in the water, etc, and that helped him spend his excess energy. Once he's tired he's a lot more calm and obedient. Trying to get him to follow orders when he's excited and energetic is impossible though.
Hi micaela! Thanks for an awesome video! I'm thinking of getting a Shiba too! Kit seems so well-behaved - did you have to train him from young? Or are shibas generally less attention seeking and like to do their own things? Hahaha
Ahahahahahahahahahah. Well, they're a highly intelligent breed, so they can be a bit hard to train. They are smart enough that they are not always obedient, they keep their own comfort as a top priority. Actually, some people compare them to cats for that reason--They're less about pleasing people, and more about pleasing themselves. But once you get into their head it's easy to motivate them by figuring out what they want. It's not always going to be dog treats and praise though. Also, Shiba are loyal to their owners but generally cold to other dogs and people. We lucked out because Kit was socialized so well since birth (he was part of a web series I did for Nestle, hence the name Kit (Kat)), but the other Shiba in our neighborhood tend to become aggressive when approached. I guess it all depends on how you raise them though, also, getting males "fixed" reduces the aggressive and territorial behavior too... I'd say to make sure to do proper research first. :)
