i appreciate your video coming up on Salem and introducing the viewers to them. Salem was first recommended to me by Apple via free songs in various playlists to my iTunes purchases in High School, which I graduated class of '11. I thought it was shit at first. Down the road when my life became my own turmoil gave up trying so hard for nothing that I was reaping and refound them through self-examination in '14. This stuff is and was ahead of it's time, and I really do love watching stuff like this and your reactions are genuinely good. The subgenre Witchhouse is quite loosely defined, nonetheless SALEM is one of the founders of this, along with WHITE RING. The wide soundscape with distorted and gritty but smooth hitting sounds, beats and blends of all. After you got to Sick I really began enjoying your take on this album to another level. Didn't even realize how next level the lyrics are, thank you. Now I am curious to a reaction from SHOW ME HEAVEN, WHITE RING. Cheers man
There’s def vocals in the back on the Asia track I could hear it too. It’s not too noticeable but just subtle that it can add to the feel of the song so much. It’s like a soft wobbly vocal that is high pitched. I love Salem and this music so much bcs of it
Dude rapping in Trapdoor is Jack Donoghue and yes he's white, was actually a crack addict and Lana Del Rey was in a controversy very recently for dating him when her fans found out who he was lmao
2 months late but about the discussion about listening to music from artists who get exposed for being terrible people, I think it depends on the allegations and the severity of things. If they involved in rape/SA or some crazy shit like that then I try to distance myself from their music bc I rlly don’t wanna be supporting that shit
It's hard for me to even listen to it at that point. Like w/ Drake, between the attitudes he expressed in the music and his weirdness toward girls, I basically lost the desire to listen to his music after being a big fan of his earlier career in my teenage years. Then I hear about this baka stuff + people are acting like they still need proof of additional accusations to quit listening to him. In my eyes, that is a self report more than it is a valid take, and I'm looking weird at anybody taking that stance
Watching you react to this in 2023 is so satisfying... you have no idea. Salem is dear to my heart. I've always mainly kept it to myself. Most people just don't get it. They won't listen long enough to discover the layers and depth. I highly recommend watching this to anybody wanting to know more who may be just now discovering them. Midwest side story...Salem It's here on You tube. They have always been very enigmatic but it gives you a sense of the people behind the ethereal gritty genius. Edit* actually... here's the link ruclips.net/video/uOeAg4YVygQ/видео.html
