Mr. Tuttle and his experience with the hunters is very interesting. Sometimes people with very different goals can find common ground and develop solutions that are mutually beneficial and highly effective. Being a former hunter and exposed to the hunting community for 60+years… I can say that most hunters are thoughtful conservationists. There are a few bad apples that are only interested in trophies and/or economic gains. Most hunters abhor poaching, law breaking and generally unethical practices.
Thanks to people like this gentleman many species once near extinction have made recoveries in my lifetime. Bald eagles, Louisiana black bear are a couple that come to mind.

the WORLD needs more people like Merlin Tuttle. i'm wondering if he has a book that goes into much more depth on this philosophy (I've been looking but it doesn't seem like he does??). We live in a world where our conversations about our differences more often seem to entrench people further apart rather than move them closer together. It's disheartening and counter productive. This philosophy of "win friends not battles" seems like a real possibility for a way forward for all of us. (p.s. i too found this because of ZeFrank)

I came here from ZeFrank’s video as well and I wanted to say how absolutely marvellous this philosophy is and how valuable it is for everything in life. This is a skill I’ve wanted to cultivate for years but haven’t been able to put into words.
I remember semi-recently seeing bats fly from a tree in my local park and being amazed by them and worried that other people in the park may be scared of them. I find myself now wondering if and hoping that they are okay.

I am so impressed with your technique, Mr Tuttle. I think I would have cried my eyes out & crumpled watching the hunters do their thing. But thankfully, you had/have the strength and courage to befriend them! Thank you for all you do😊

This is one of the most important messages anyone can receive about anything. At a time of extreme polarization, & vilification of bats for the spread of zoonotic diseases actually caused by humans of ALL nations, THIS is the tack we need to rally to. Bravo @ZeFrank1 for using your platform to amplify Dr. Tuttle's extraordinary contributions to life on Earth.

This is lovely, if everybody communicated better and adopted this mindset so many problems would be solved. We're all people not adversaries!

Merlin, I just found your site & this is the first MTBC video I've viewed & truly love your philosophy of "winning friends". Too few people approach problems & issues like this. This is a great attitude. Thanks for what you do.

Hi Merlin, Thank you for sharing your work with bats to the world.
Here, in Australia, we have 2x states that allow for the shooting of flying foxes indiscriminately, as they are visiting orchards for food.
The state governments have allowed the removal of their habitats for agriculture and, residential and commercial developments.
We already have heat waves, barbed-wire fences, bird netting and urban development that impact on their numbers.
It is a big task to tackle and no doubt, many bat carers and wildlife groups are doing their part to save bats, from unnecessary suffering and death via letters to politicians and newspapers, as well as, setting up facilities to care for the injured.
Would you have any suggestions on how we can tackle this?

Came here from Ze Frank's video. Simon Sinek should feature him some times: The power of winning friends not battles. Our society need more of these people instead of haters like rioters and reckless protesters
