The goal of read a thons for me are to have fun, but sometimes they happen on days and/or weeks that are complicated for us and that’s ok. Even if you read just one book and complete one challenge, if it was a positive experience I think it’s a success. Today is the last day and I’m finishing my forth book and forth challenge but I did many other things during the week and I still managed to read more than I usually do, so I’m happy with that. There will be more read a thons in the future that will come up at a better time!

You were clear about your rating and why: you rate based on your enjoyment. I respect your opinion, and you are one of my go to people for the actual truth about a book. I hate spoilers for other books in a Book!! "Everything, Everything" by Nicola Yoon, did this for 3 classics! Like EXCUSE ME. Two were on my TBR as well, and actually affected my enjoyment of one of those books. So I docked a star because it annoyed me so much.
In a weird way this vlog was even better because it didn't go as planned, I feel like we saw a lot more of your personality in this and I loved it haha! Happy reading🤗

So that's why I don't like Hitchhikers Guide, you summed it up perfectly. It's like taking Monty Python's style and making it a book! You are so right, the jokes are funnier when shared out of context. In my senior year of high school we had a phrase we'd use when we'd had a bad day: 'What's the f*cking meaning of life?!?' and someone would yell out '42!'
I think it was because H2G2 was never ment to be a book. It was written originally as a BBC Radio Comedy (if you attempt the audio look out these as they are the original format) it was then made into a very bad 1970s TV show and then padded out into a book. This gives it a rather confused feeling as the book cobbles together the radio scripts and tries to add in discription of worldbuilding that wasn't necessary for the radio due to the presence of the narration and sound effects. So the feeling of it being a Monty python movie change into a book is correct as that's kind of exactly what it is.

I remember reading The Secret Life of Bees in high school and really enjoying it! I also recommend the movie, I thought it was really good and a good movie adaptation of the book.
Didn't complain that you didn't like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but was very surprised. When I read The Humans, I found some of the humour very similar to HGttG.

Dodo Pink this book is super hyped in France. The author won at a writing contest that’s why it got published. But I read it two years ago and I HATED IT. The main character has zero emotions and the story was boring. Nothing happens. The world building is not clear at all. I am not the type of reader to hate everything or to pick on things (I enjoy 70% of the things I read) but this was terrible. I don’t get the hype.
Emily, I'm guessing if you didn't like HGttG, you probably won't enjoy Terry Pratchett's Discworld series either, so you may want to steer clear of it if you haven't read them already. I happen to love Douglas Adams writing now, but when I first read them back in school, I didn't... so I get you not liking them. Though, you may enjoy the movie if you give it a chance? It may change your mind. I also love the Discworld series, but I listen to them on audiobook. Thanks for an entertaining video and for taking the time it takes to make them!!

I get not liking a book that’s popular and everyone coming for your opinion! I took an English lit class last semester and we read Ready Player One, I absolutely hated it but everyone loved it, so my opinions were sort of not received well lol
I didn’t finish hitchhikers guide... I just couldn’t get into it. I also couldn’t finish the movie. I read the secret lives of bees a long time ago.....probably close to when it came out and I remember liking it. I just read Anna Kendrick’s book (it was really funny) and the long way to a small angry planet which was good also.

Still read the awakening because the ending is actually kind of ambiguous and theres no real set spoiler, only opinions. Kind of like how the giver ended. (Also i love the awakening)

I intensely disliked The Awakening when I read it many, many years ago. Too long ago to remember details, but I do recall finding the main character to be rather unlikeable.
