FINALY !!! A review of your lathe Jamie!! It was awesome to turn on!! I can’t wait until they start selling in the states!! I want to have the first one!!! 👍👍👍👍
I don’t use carbide tools, why did you get the catch? Did the carbide hit too much wall on the base and side or is there something else? Really appreciate a year in review. Good to see the newer version have the quil eject the live center on retraction. Gonna pick this up over the laguna midi.
it was a combination of things to be honest, firstly, it wasnt me turning, it was the other guy LOL, secondly it wasnt the carbides fault it was all human error, so his home chuck is different to mine and doesnt have a dovetail on and when he made it, he forgot to put one on, and secondly, if you look carefully, he put tool to wood before the tool touches the rest, all that combined and BANG!! bowl goes flying lol. I loved my lathe but i had an opportunity to upgrade to a bigger lathe that i couldnt pass up on, if i had the space to keep it tho, i sure woulda done, you are making a great choice in getting a herald :)
I bought one a few months ago, there are now at least a few dealers of these beauties here in the states, I absolutely love mine, the only thing that sort of bother me was, having a control center that is movable would be cool. and the Hand wheel is a little small but then there is not much you can do about that because the motors is right there too. I certainly buy it again,
Nice review, JP. Now I want one even more! Jake better hurry if he's gonna beat me to one. Of course they could still send me one made for the states to give it a run through its paces and review. LOL Billy
Hahahahaha if you want the contact details too mate I can arrange it mate, and believe me, it don’t need testing, I watched a video of a guy trying to break it this weekend and he failed! I’ll explain when I get home 👍🏻
The Coronet Herald was just too expensive for me, I went for the DML320 with variable speed. So far I’m really happy, and haven’t needed the extra capacity but time will tell, but I can see why you are happy, Record Power make great products.
Hi you said that the drive spindle couldn't be put on the other end of the lathe, I have just ordered one of these and all the instructions I have seen says it can be put there for left handed turners. good video though
Hi , thanks for a great review of this lathe, looking to get one myself could you tell me the height when on leg stand from floor to spindle centre as still not sure if to go floor or bench mount, cheers Mike
The over-run error is caused by pieces that are heavy. If you use the lowest gear, it prevents this error. Weird that you've never changed gear, as it's possible to slow the motor right down using some aggressive cuts, especially on heavy pieces, again the lower gear prevents this. The highest gear is great for turning really tiny components REALLY fast!! I never bothered to fill mine's legs with sand. The actual amount you can get in there, it hardly seems worth it. Just don't screw it to the floor and use the speed control to ease the wobbles! :)
Yes mate with ease! I got a video on my channel doing a 21 inch bowl blank however that was round, but I have seen videos direct from record power of some huge pieces and as long as it’s on the right belt it will be fine! It has amazing torque 👍🏻
@@jpwoodwork aw, ok. Nice one! I keep coming back to the herald for my next lathe, for the money and features it has I don't think I can go wrong, cheers
if you mean could it turn them with no problems at at then the answer would definitely be yes, i have a video showing me turning a 3ft spindle and it handled it with no problems

yeah for sure i agree, its an awesome machine, they do an optional magnetic stop button which is moveable but thats about it i believe
Nice job Jamie and dale. Good informative video nice to hear that record are living up to their name.
Thanks mate, couldn’t agree more 👍🏻
Woaw 😲😲 the way it flew off ... dayam.. ok will carry on watching now

Yeah it’s a beautiful thing
Nice review fellas!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks mate
All in all you both seem impressed with lathe Jamie. Glad to see I'm not alone in tbe flying project stakes ... 😁
Cheers
Mike
yeah its a great little lathe mate, surprising what it can actually do for such a small lathe and yep, you are not the only one lol
Bit of a long shot but can you remember how many kg of sand you used in the legs ?
I can’t quite remember to be honest but I remember it was just under a full bag for all 4 legs
Great video guys!
Thanks John
Nice lathe Sir JP!
Thanks mate, they will be state side officially by Christmas 👍🏻
Здравствуйте!
Если можно скажите пожалуйста какой патрон покупать для этого станка

Hi, what do you mean by cartridge? Thanks for watching
Hi you said that the drive spindle couldn't be put on the other end of the lathe, I have just ordered one of these and all the instructions I have seen says it can be put there for left handed turners. good video though
Both the headstock and tail stock are both MT2 but i will rewatch the video to get more of an idea of ur comment :)
@@jpwoodwork Your friend asked if the headstock could be moved to the other end and you said I don't think so
Oh yes, the headstock can slide all the way up and down the bed of the lathe yes
Cool vid guys, Jamie when you get bored of it, drop it around to my house.....I'll store it for you!😁👍
MAY be a long wait lol 😂
Hi , thanks for a great review of this lathe, looking to get one myself could you tell me the height when on leg stand from floor to spindle centre as still not sure if to go floor or bench mount, cheers
Mike
Hi Michael, i just went and measured and it was about 44inches from the floor to the centre of the spindle.....Any more questions, feel free to ask
Many thanks for that info will be of great help
Cheers
Mike

thanks for the input :)
you still get the error message in low gear if you get a big catch, tis the only thing I do not like about this lathe, apart from that it is excellent
Thanks JP, I am actually looking at buying one of these next week from Yandles. Will it handle heavy off balanced wood ok?
Yes mate with ease! I got a video on my channel doing a 21 inch bowl blank however that was round, but I have seen videos direct from record power of some huge pieces and as long as it’s on the right belt it will be fine! It has amazing torque 👍🏻
@@jpwoodwork Thanks, I'm going to order one on Monday.
@@jamesmacthread5986 awesome! please let me know how you like it :)
Would this review still be the same today JP? cheers man
Yes mate, however i believe the only thing they have upgraded is the tailstock, it is now self ejecting as far as i know

@@GavSedae no worries mate, it’s a fantastic lathe, I’d honestly say pull the trigger, plus not many companies give a 5year warranty too 👍🏻
Great review
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Could it handle chair legs ,without sparring
